It’s Quiet Uptown | Jotaro | Chapter 2 | Closed For Silas

When Silas broke down again in tears, he lowered his hands and let them fall to his sides. At first Jotaro thought he had done the wrong thing. Was Silas crying because he was uncomfortable? Maybe he just didn’t say anything so he let his emotions talk for him? 

Uck, he felt weird now. Jotaro’s face paled and he pulled back, about to hug himself in despair. But then-, he heard a thank you, and before he could say anything, Silas pulled him in for a hug. He blinked, dumbfounded, before reciprocating, a warm smile enveloping on his face. He squeezed tightly, And when the hug relaxed, he felt relief for the situation. 

“We have each other. Remember that.” He spoke softly, gazing into the other’s eyes. “In this type of situation, we have to stick together. U-us….and our friends….but mostly us.That way we can’t be torn apart by death, or evil, or…”

“You’re right.” Silas was still very much wet-eyed, kinda like an oversized puppy, or maybe more like that one cat image? Anyway, he was definitely doing those big ol eyes. He smiled again, shakily but still with a look of determination. “We’ll be fine. All of us. We can work t’gether on this one.”

He looked back at the floor. “I don’t want our friends, even if one was-” He juddered as a cold chill went down his spine- “-Was as awful a-as Masamoto-san was, to be dead for nothing. We’ve... gotta try, for them, at least.”

He looked back at Jotaro. “So... let’s do this t’gether. You and me and everybody.”

Jotaro stayed silent as he got a physical response from Silas. Good, he thought, at least the other male wasn’t traumatized to the point of no return. Still pretty traumatized, though. He kept the grip strong and made it known that he wasn’t going anywhere. He wasn’t sure if Silas favored company during these types of times, but gosh darn it would he provide!

“Nobody should have died.” Jotaro echoed, knowing the deep meaning of what the redhead meant. “But…” He looks at Silas. “we couldn’t have protected them. Masamoto-chan was succumbed by the evil in this castle, they, they couldn’t have thought of the consequences, they just…had to keep things hidden I suppose.” Another squeeze of the hand. “Both of them were victims no one could’ve foresaw, and we can’t have it again, but we can’t change the past.”

He felt tears glistening in the corners of his eyes. He wasn’t sure the weight of his words right now. It just kind of spilled out aimlessly. 

Seeing Silas with his bold expression and SPECIAL EYES ™ made Jotaro’s heart tender and sad at the same time. Tender because he saw the person who would do anything to help his peers, even if it meant self destruction. And then he became wistful, knowing that if Silas made an effort, it could possibly mean him getting hurt, which was not what Jotaro wanted. 

“You can protect everyone.” He cheered, turning to Silas and gently cupping the other’s cheeks with his hands. “I’ll protect you.”

Silas wasn’t sure how to react. He was so used to trying to hold his head high for everyone else, to keep going no matter what, and this came so unexpectedly. Protecting everyone else was second nature to him; this was the first time somebody had ever expressed the same desire back, and it was very different.

And finally, he cried again. Something he’d been doing so much these past few days, but particularly in the last few hours. He didn’t know what to say, didn’t know how to feel, and was generally a crying mess. Oops.

And somehow, without even realising it, he smiled warmly again, and let out a soft “Thank you.” He leant over and hugged Jotaro tightly, making no attempt to hide that he was shaking with how hard he was crying. “I can do this... better this time. We... can do this better.”

Without letting go, although relaxing the hug a little, he let out a deep breath. Relieved? Exhausted? Just a deep breath? It truly is a mystery.

It’s Quiet Uptown | Jotaro | Chapter 2 | Closed For Silas

Jotaro had not witnessed anything as horrifying as the trial, and the execution of Masamoto shortly after. Someone actually did it. They had the courage to murder someone over a secret. A secret! And Jotaro thought his situation was nail-biting- someone actually went through with it!

And the state everyone was left in was just as bad. Kids scattered all over the library. After some people left, Jotaro realized he had been silently crying for over an hour. He got up, limbs aching, and found a familiar large student sitting by himself, lacking his usual glow. 

“…” Jotaro made his way towards a seat right by the tamer. He climbed into it and found Silas’s hand empty and cold. He reached out and took the other’s wrist before wrapping his fingers between Silas’s own. He squeezed the others hand and remained quiet. What was there to say?

Silas was, quite frankly, still absolutely and completely Shook™ over that whole trial ordeal. First the actual trial, in which he consistently felt like an idiot after saying things that, although not directly implicating him, certainly implied the killer was probably big and strong, which was, in retrospect, a poor idea. Then there was the execution. Sweet heavens above, the execution. What the actual fuck was that, besides traumatising? Watching a ‘friend’ get brutally killed in front of them was not something Silas had been planning for when he left for Shibuya.

And now everything was awful. The library was awful. The tears and sobs and distress was awful. The castle being gone was awful. Okay, that last one was alright, actually. That was cool. But being stranded in a flying library was not.

It took him a while to notice Jotaro being there. He hung his head a little and looked over to Jotaro, squeezing back gently. “I... can’t believe all this. It’s just...” He gave a pathetic, weak laugh. “It’s just so pointless. Nobody should have died. Nobody... deserved that.”

He took his glasses off and looked at the floor, expression listless and mood also rather morose. Essentially, he was feelin’ pretty damn bad in this Chilli’s tonight. “I want to protect everyone. I don’t want this t’ ever happen again.”

cat noises | Chapter 1 Body Drop Reaction

As soon as he heard the scream, Silas had come running, despite having spent the while since the ghosts spoke about him in a rut, lying in bed. He must have passed the time somehow, or maybe passed out, sleeping, because the next thing he remembered properly after his secret coming out was the screams. And boy did he run. He ran, and he had had the sneaking suspicion something was wrong, the ghosts were gone and his roommate was gone and- Oh. One mystery solved.

Both mysteries solved.

His instinctive reaction, at first, was to scream. But his body reacted first. And the noise that came out was less of a scream than something altogether more primal, much more animal than man, although just as loud.

Everything was very wrong and was, in fact, bad forever.

Silas took a minute to parse what Kaoru was saying - he recognised the words, he could probably cope with them written down (lucky me!), but out loud took him a while to figure out what was being said. He’d figured out the bit about Kaoru’s neighbour having a rather shy cat, and was currently figuring out the second half of everything.

“Ah, wee cats like that’re always so fuckin’ skittish. Believe me, even I have trouble with ‘em. Bet they think I’m a big ol’ scary cat, maybe!” He laughs, although a little softer than he did in the courtyard. Maybe just because that wasn’t that funny. Who knows?

He then became very flustered and rather pink at the compliments, beaming very widely. The overall effect wasn’t quite as cute as it was mildly terrifying, but hey, he’s not exactly known for being very cute in either body, personality, or language.

“Y’know what? Bet my little family of big cats’d really fuckin’ love you. Maybe when we get out-”

‘When we get out.’ He said that like it was a certainty, but suddenly he wasn’t so sure. No, it was. They’d both be fine! They’d manage!

“When we get out, you could come n’ see them! Don’t worry, they wouldn’t hurt a fuckin’ flea unless I let them.”

He leaned back a few seconds, thinking and reading the mood. “An’, tell y’ what, big cats and dogs aren’t too different, when you get past the ‘different species’ shit. All tamin’s a balance of bein’ strict n’ kind, n’ I bet you’d be able to work wi’ lions as well as y’ work wi’ your compatriot here!” He wasn’t sure if that was the right thing to have said, but it was at least genuine.

Haha, yeah, Kaoru’d believe it. A looking at Silas himself, like… Tall? Check. Massive beard? Check. Bara? Check. Being lorge and intimidating was enough to scare a dog, too. Especially the teeny ones!! Haha, well. Silas dealt with LARGE animals, like bigger than humans large. He probably wouldn’t need to worry about that kind of thing in that particular profession. Kaoru chuckled softly and tugged at his hoodie.

“Ahaha… Well…. With the gods, especially those of a smaller stature, if you bring yourself to their level and present yourself as vulnerable, they are more likely to trust you and approach upon your domain. Cats, it seems…I have not had enough direct interaction to place a diagnosis, but it seems far more of a coin toss with the small ones. I’ve only seen your great beasts at a zoo.”

A-awhwhh jeeze… a true flusterfest. A gentle giant, hm? Ahaha… man, That just… 

Kaoru shrunk for a moment. Right, their situation. While finding a comrade was certainly exciting, and Kaoru was 10x more likely to trust anyone with an affinity towards animals…. Their situation was still present and Kaoru was still very much exposed and out in the open. Right. urghghg this was all unsettling, sinking a pit in his stomach.

“… Dark magic is of the strongest variety, assuredly. I am familiar with the kind and that is most likely what brought us here… though it is not invincible. With enough light, it can be overcome. A battle of will. It… is very possible to get home, I’m certain. With your aid, I’m sure there will be enough spread among the group of us to overcome. Alas, I am but equipped with an affinity for the darkness, so I don’t believe there is much I would directly be able to do.”

A pause is left in the air. Maybe those were the wrong words for the time. IT wasn’t like Kaoru wanted to sit around and do nothing. Really, REALLY, he wanted to get home to his puppers.

“But once we overcome, I promise to join you in greeting them. You clearly understand the art of befriending beast of other kins, a process underappreciated and oft tossed to the roaches. You make for excellent company.”

Further thoughts on the situation, however…. Rooms. Roommates. Frankly, roommates were the bane of Kaoru’s existence. It was the last thing he wanted. Still, his visage was already uncovered, so there wasn’t… a WHOLE lot left to hide. Ok there really was a lot. But a soul like this would understand.

“… P-per chance… w-would you…. be ok sh-sharing… your room with me? Sorryifthat’saskingalot”

God how do you even ask someone for an alliance these days? Kaoru’d long forgotten.

Silas was still Flustered™. He’s not used to compliments from his peers, apparently, and it really comes across in the big, goofy smile.

Hearing - and liiiiiikely slightly misinterpreting - what he took as optimism from Kaoru, he laughed and gave an encouraging nod. “Yeah! That’s the fuckin’ spirit. We’ll be fine; I’m sure we can get back home. Y’ can count on it. N’ I dunno much about shit like dark magic, but if y’ think we can do it, y’ seem like y’ know what you’re talkin’ about! This shit should be a cinch!”

And, hm. Room was sounding promising. It’d be nice to have somewhere to actually sit down properly for a bit. A bed, maybe? And he could tell Kaoru was getting exhausted, and it was so busy out here, and wow was this all so... ugh. Silas was maybe a little emotionally drained, and -

Oh! An offer to share a room? Silas was immediately bashful again. He didn’t expect somebody he’d only known for such a short time to trust him like that, but... he couldn’t hide that he was pleased he’d made a friend.

“O-only if you’re OK with it! I’d love t’ share a room wi’ somebody like you. I’ll make sure y’ve got enough private space, if y’ need it.”

Lion of soft heart | Chapter 1 Reaction | Closed for Silas

Kill eachother, Katsuo never expected that it would turn out like this, his common sence was already telling him to not do it. He was shaking a bit, but he tried to keep a calm exterior, not letting anyone see his fear. He went inside of his room to process the situation and settle down.

After relaxing a bit, he came back out, with the same confident attitude he likes to show, maybe walking around to explore the castle was the best idea, finding weapons for self defence and getting to meet the other people there.

While doing that, he found the guy of red hair and funny clothes, Katsuo didn’t had the chance to talk with him, but he was of the loudest people there, he got to hear a bit of him while everyone was still confused in the yard, the thing that he remembered best was his sharp tongue, while talking, he sweared a lot.

But actually, when Katsuo saw him, he looked different, that rough exterior had vanished, the only thing left was a depressed guy with not much to say. He couldn’t leave him like that, so he walked up to him to try helping him.

“H-hey man…. you doing alright…? I haven’t talked to you yet, so i thought about asking you your name…”

Silas moved his hands away from his face and wiped his nose. “Y-yeah, I think I’m okay… This just… doesn’t seem real, y’know? I… don’t want to believe it.”

He pushed his glasses back up, and gave a slightly limp smile. “Well, won’t do to have this be a first impression.” He shook his head violently, almost like he was trying to shake out the very idea of what was happening, and then stuck out a large, still-slightly-damp hand. “Name’s Silas Cameron, n’ I look after some pretty big cats. How about you; how are y’ holding up?”

Weak, if he had to describe how Silas was acting right now with just one word, that is weak, of course is understandable, suddenly forced into this situation where they expect strangers to kill eachother, that sudden change if somone’s life is easily enough to break your confidence.

Even so, letting fear get to him, even here, is something that he couldn’t accept, that feeling of despair is something that could make anyone fall for this situation, so showing weakness was not an option for Katsuo.

“The name of this mighty legend infront of you is Katsuo Yukimura! An expert ski racer that can conquer any mountain! I have travelled around the world leaving my mark in each and every country.”

“And about how i am holding up… the answer is great! just exploring this place around to find an alternative to the whole ´Killing´ part. But the most important question for me right now is… How are YOU holding up? I Heard you when we were outside, what happened to that confident man out there?”

“Ski racer, huh…? Never quite got the hang o’ skiing. Fell off too much, n’ I think I left a pretty fuckin’ big dent in the slope. Never did it again after that.” He looked more comfortable now he had related something stupid that he’d done. Talking about something else other than this whole debacle definitely helped.

He seemed a little caught up in his memories. Watching his face, you could see he could remember every single body part he hit landing hard on the artificial ski slope, wincing time and time again over long-gone bruises. “It hurt like a bitch, but hey, I’m fine now.”

He was… quite wrong. He wasn’t ‘fine now’. The ski slope he had recovered from. The death game? Not so much. And so his mind wandered back to the latter half of what Katsuo had said.

“Glad t’ know somebody’s coping alright. I mean, I think I’m okay-ish now.” He gave a deprecating chuckle. “Not like me to get like that. S’pose everyone’s maybe a tiny bit stressed out over that shit, though.”

“Well, yeah, i guess i understand why everyone is stressed out over this, but personally, you all are thinking about it too much, I prefer to not drown in my worries.”

Trying to find a way to make him feel better, he remembered how distracted Silas looked while talking about his experience with skiing, for now, the best solution Katsuo could think of was taking his mind off the situation and change of topic, once he relaxes a bit, he should be able to help him dealing with the situation.

“Hey man, if you ever feel like going back to skiing, gimme a call! I like trying new things, so maybe giving classes to someone else would be fun, after a few classes, i promise you will become an expert! Not as good like me, but close enough.”

“Wait a sec… what did you meant when saying… ´Looking after big cats´, are you a pet owner or what…?”

Silas was very, very excited to talk about his big cats. He had quite a few, all named quirkily, but he’d try and limit himself. At least it got his mind off things. “Ah, I have lions. That’s my job, actually - t’ tame the fuckers so they behave themselves on show. Sometimes they get a wee bit cranky, but I can usually show them who’s boss without hurtin’ em.” He chuckled. “They don’t like anythin’ that’s any fuckin’ louder than them, so I find roarin’ back makes em shit themselves and calm down.”

Silas reached for his phone, and flipped it open before realising he didn’t have any photos. “Ah, crap. Well, I can just tell y’ bout a couple. I only own a few, I work mostly with other people’s lions that they can’t do shit with. But my boys and my big missus go everywhere wi’ me. My big girl’s called Sheba, n’ she seems to be very good at gettin’ other lions to pipe down n’ listen to me. She’s also great at the flamin’ hoops.” He thought about Katsuo’s offer. “Skiin’ classes? Sounds great! I’d totally come meet y’ next time I’m near a ski place.” He then realised how far away everything was. How he might not get out alive. A brief flicker of pain flitted across his face before he laughed and smiled again. “Gwahahah, look at me, actin’ like some kinda fuckin’ big baby! We’ll get out fine, n’ I’ll come see y’ on my break.”

“That’s the spirit! I knew that strong lion from the yard was here somewhere!…”

“Wait… lions…?”

It took a moment for Katsuo to process it, he was so focussed on making him feel better than he didn’t paid much attention when he had said ´Lions´. Now that he had finally started to analyse his words… he was shoked.

Of course, he has heard about people training lions, but he had never met one in person, or even saw one in actions, there was a time where he thought that people were just messing with him, training such creatures that are known for being dangerous sounded like a lie to him, so finally meeting someone who claims being able to not only tame them, but also do it without hurting them…

“M-man… that´s… So-Freaking-COOL! OH MAN! TAMING SUCH FIERCE ANIMALS SOUNDS EXCITING, I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU ARE ABLE TO TAME LIONS! ONCE WE GET OUT OF HERE, YA NEED TO SHOW ME THIS BIG BEASTS IN ACTION!”

One of the reasons got into skiing was the adrenaline he gets from doing it, so any other thing that could give him that same excitement get him pretty motivated.

Silas laughed heartily. He was very, very excited that somebody else was as enthused about his big cats as he was. He loved his cats, he loved talking about them, and he especially loved it when people were excited about his lions.

“Gwahahah! It’s nothing special, really. They’re just big fuckin’ cats, they’re just as easy to deal with as the little fuckers y’ get in the pet shop. Just gotta show ‘em some respect, some kindness, n’ be really ready to put your foot down if shit hits the fan.”

He’s suddenly struck by an idea. “Hey, if y’ can find the circus I’m at, feel free t’ stop by.” He pauses for dramatic effect. “If y’ get there, I’ll let you ride one of the lions! Diomedes is big n’ lazy enough that he wouldn’t mind, n’ he’s practically a fuckin’ professional at it now!” He was very excited about the prospect of letting someone who wasn’t part of a circus troupe ride one of his cats. “Doubt Sheba’d like it, though. She might get pissed.”

Silas bent down and gave Shayler a careful pat, careful to give Kaoru enough room. Eventually, he chuckled. “I can tell why y’ call her a goddess! She’s great, n’ I’m not much of a dog person, myself.”

He looked up, but sensing that Kaoru didn’t want to make eye contact, he very quickly looked back at Shayler. “Y’know what else? I can tell she trusts y’ a whole damn lot.” He gave a proper smile this time.

“Tell y’ what, you’ve trained her absolutely fuckin’ fantastic, too. My boys’d have been all over those… things back there, n’ don’t get me started on what my big girl Sheba would’ve done to ‘em!” He sat down on the floor, properly this time.

He took a minute to just… relax for a bit. Everything would be OK (probably). With his eyes still shut, he added, “It’s real nice t’ meet y’ and Shayler. Rare t’ meet someone else who actually has some damn trust in their companions.”

He, at least, seemed at peace now. Content, and definitely less stressed. Looks like a dog was, in fact, what he needed.

Shayler happily wagged her tail at the contact, licking Silas’s hand as it descended down for the pets. She took no offense to only being ‘called’ a goddess, as she is a dog and does not understand. Kaoru was a little disappointed, but wasn’t going to press it further. Shayler was plenty delighted and calm enough for the situation.

“I think my own allegiance is fairly upfront, considering my profession and attire. Though cats, fellow dark spirits, are beings of admiration and respect. There is much a cat can do that we cannot. I don’t have terribly many opportunities to associate with the mystical beasts. The adjacent dweller from my home possesses one, though the creature is quite elusive.”

‘She trusts you a whole damn lot.’ O-oh! A legitimate, genuine smile bloomed upon Kaoru’s face, only visible from the slight turn of his cheeks directly above the mask.

“A true compatriot, through and through. It’d be an understatement to say I love her. Ah, yes… Training is my profession, actually. Shayler is at rest, presently, though she still has the fundamentals in place, and a relatively relaxed disposition. I’d… be honored to one day become acquainted with your own companions.”

There’s a small boof from Shayler, fully recognizing her name and the fact that she’s being spoken to. The affection is also lovely.

J-jeeze. All this praise from someone who deserved it so much more. There were many other gentle dog trainers in the world, what made Kaoru’s profession so different was how elaborate it was. A gentle lion tamer was something else. Many, many people were terrified of them, and they aren’t exactly domesticated creatures, so training is an entirely different medium. Heck if Kaoru knew how to do it.

“I’ve seen some moving pictures of you and your companions on the net space. You work incredibly well with them, and I’ve seen you in a positive light for awhile now. It really is amazing, the things you have accomplished. I’m honored to meet you in person.”

Silas took a minute to parse what Kaoru was saying - he recognised the words, he could probably cope with them written down (lucky me!), but out loud took him a while to figure out what was being said. He’d figured out the bit about Kaoru’s neighbour having a rather shy cat, and was currently figuring out the second half of everything.

“Ah, wee cats like that’re always so fuckin’ skittish. Believe me, even I have trouble with ‘em. Bet they think I’m a big ol’ scary cat, maybe!” He laughs, although a little softer than he did in the courtyard. Maybe just because that wasn’t that funny. Who knows?

He then became very flustered and rather pink at the compliments, beaming very widely. The overall effect wasn’t quite as cute as it was mildly terrifying, but hey, he’s not exactly known for being very cute in either body, personality, or language.

“Y’know what? Bet my little family of big cats’d really fuckin’ love you. Maybe when we get out-”

‘When we get out.’ He said that like it was a certainty, but suddenly he wasn’t so sure. No, it was. They’d both be fine! They’d manage!

“When we get out, you could come n’ see them! Don’t worry, they wouldn’t hurt a fuckin’ flea unless I let them.”

He leaned back a few seconds, thinking and reading the mood. “An’, tell y’ what, big cats and dogs aren’t too different, when you get past the ‘different species’ shit. All tamin’s a balance of bein’ strict n’ kind, n’ I bet you’d be able to work wi’ lions as well as y’ work wi’ your compatriot here!” He wasn’t sure if that was the right thing to have said, but it was at least genuine.

Lion of soft heart | Chapter 1 Reaction | Closed for Silas

Kill eachother, Katsuo never expected that it would turn out like this, his common sence was already telling him to not do it. He was shaking a bit, but he tried to keep a calm exterior, not letting anyone see his fear. He went inside of his room to process the situation and settle down.

After relaxing a bit, he came back out, with the same confident attitude he likes to show, maybe walking around to explore the castle was the best idea, finding weapons for self defence and getting to meet the other people there.

While doing that, he found the guy of red hair and funny clothes, Katsuo didn’t had the chance to talk with him, but he was of the loudest people there, he got to hear a bit of him while everyone was still confused in the yard, the thing that he remembered best was his sharp tongue, while talking, he sweared a lot.

But actually, when Katsuo saw him, he looked different, that rough exterior had vanished, the only thing left was a depressed guy with not much to say. He couldn’t leave him like that, so he walked up to him to try helping him.

“H-hey man…. you doing alright…? I haven’t talked to you yet, so i thought about asking you your name…”

Silas moved his hands away from his face and wiped his nose. “Y-yeah, I think I’m okay… This just… doesn’t seem real, y’know? I… don’t want to believe it.”

He pushed his glasses back up, and gave a slightly limp smile. “Well, won’t do to have this be a first impression.” He shook his head violently, almost like he was trying to shake out the very idea of what was happening, and then stuck out a large, still-slightly-damp hand. “Name’s Silas Cameron, n’ I look after some pretty big cats. How about you; how are y’ holding up?”

Weak, if he had to describe how Silas was acting right now with just one word, that is weak, of course is understandable, suddenly forced into this situation where they expect strangers to kill eachother, that sudden change if somone’s life is easily enough to break your confidence.

Even so, letting fear get to him, even here, is something that he couldn’t accept, that feeling of despair is something that could make anyone fall for this situation, so showing weakness was not an option for Katsuo.

“The name of this mighty legend infront of you is Katsuo Yukimura! An expert ski racer that can conquer any mountain! I have travelled around the world leaving my mark in each and every country.”

“And about how i am holding up… the answer is great! just exploring this place around to find an alternative to the whole ´Killing´ part. But the most important question for me right now is… How are YOU holding up? I Heard you when we were outside, what happened to that confident man out there?”

“Ski racer, huh...? Never quite got the hang o’ skiing. Fell off too much, n’ I think I left a pretty fuckin’ big dent in the slope. Never did it again after that.” He looked more comfortable now he had related something stupid that he’d done. Talking about something else other than this whole debacle definitely helped.

He seemed a little caught up in his memories. Watching his face, you could see he could remember every single body part he hit landing hard on the artificial ski slope, wincing time and time again over long-gone bruises. “It hurt like a bitch, but hey, I’m fine now.”

He was... quite wrong. He wasn’t ‘fine now’. The ski slope he had recovered from. The death game? Not so much. And so his mind wandered back to the latter half of what Katsuo had said.

“Glad t’ know somebody’s coping alright. I mean, I think I’m okay-ish now.” He gave a deprecating chuckle. “Not like me to get like that. S’pose everyone’s maybe a tiny bit stressed out over that shit, though.”

And if anybody needed a dog right now, it was probably… Well, it was probably all of them, but Silas quite fancied saying hi to a dog right now. Not quite a cat, but a dog’d be more affectionate, anyway. And was that… oh, probably the dog’s owner! Fantastic. A fellow animal lover, somebody he could probably trust. The dog seemed happy, at least. And this whole roommate debacle? God, he had no idea. He didn’t want to play favourites, but he also just wanted somewhere he could rest. This was all too stressful and it really wasn’t helping his mood, not that it could get much worse. Ah, the dog. Dog. Dog dog dog dog dog. He really wanted to go say hi to that dog! What a lovely dog. He walked on over to Kaoru, who he assumed owned the dog, and gave a really weak smile. “H-hey. Nice t’ meet you. I-I’m Silas - s-say, is that your dog?” He was practically stumbling over his words. Good job on making a good first impression. He blushed, realising how much he must look like a wimp right now. “S-sorry, let me do that again.” He straightened up a little, gave a slightly more confident smile, and stuck out his hand. “Nice t’ meet you. I’m Silas Cameron, lion-tamer extraordinaire. Would this little lady here be your companion, then?” 

Silas Cameron was approaching Kaoru. Kaoru trembled. Silas Cameron was crying. Silas Cameron— Focus, Kaoru. Just because YOU didn’t take the stupid death threat as seriously as other people did, didn’t mean others just brushed it off. Even then, Kaoru was kind of forcing himself to brush it off. Now that rooms were available, he’d have relative safety anyway and….

Hmmm. The more Silas’s face caused Kaoru to think about it, the more upset Kaoru got. He trembled less with nerves and more with upset, and he quickly trained his eyes on the ground. Do not lock eyes with a dark spirit, mortal. Tis dangerous. It likely came off as rude, but… Kaoru tugged his hood down to nearly completely cover his face.

“… Y-Yes… She’s uhm… She’s the great and forgiving goddess Shayler. O-One of a kind and… I, Kaoru Inukai, companion and trainer of the gods, am aware of your admirable exploits. W-With gentle taming… b-based on respect, and…”

Intimidating. This guy was kind of like a real hero, as opposed to Kaoru’s behind the scenes work. He’d ask for an autograph, but uh… (It really wasn’t the time or place for that.)

“… She doesn’t bite.”

He gestured to Shayler and kneeled down himself, patting her fur. Therapeutic. Dogs kind of make you forget about the rest of your situation.

Starstruck.

Silas bent down and gave Shayler a careful pat, careful to give Kaoru enough room. Eventually, he chuckled. “I can tell why y’ call her a goddess! She’s great, n’ I’m not much of a dog person, myself.”

He looked up, but sensing that Kaoru didn’t want to make eye contact, he very quickly looked back at Shayler. “Y’know what else? I can tell she trusts y’ a whole damn lot.” He gave a proper smile this time.

“Tell y’ what, you’ve trained her absolutely fuckin’ fantastic, too. My boys’d have been all over those... things back there, n’ don’t get me started on what my big girl Sheba would’ve done to ‘em!” He sat down on the floor, properly this time.

He took a minute to just... relax for a bit. Everything would be OK (probably). With his eyes still shut, he added, “It’s real nice t’ meet y’ and Shayler. Rare t’ meet someone else who actually has some damn trust in their companions.”

He, at least, seemed at peace now. Content, and definitely less stressed. Looks like a dog was, in fact, what he needed.

Realm of the Darkness || Kaoru reaction || CLOSED for Silas

It took Kaoru FAR too long to properly catch onto what was happening. From his safety behind BUSH, his eyesight was limited. However, Shayler picked up on it immediately, flattening her posture and growling. It took those cues for Kaoru to slowly peek up over the top of the bush, when her eyes wavered and watered.

HEALER, NO.

Kaoru, however, was frozen in his Kigu, teeth chattering and trembling vigorously. He didn’t know what to do in the slightest, nor could he bring himself to properly think and process the concept of running. Fight or flight reflexes? Broken. Utterly broken. If it hadn’t been for their mysterious savior, there was a high and mighty chance Kaoru would have ended up dead. Thankfully, being far off and hidden saved Kaoru from being touched at all, really.

It wasn’t really fair, for Kaoru to get out scott free like that because he was being a coward. Yet there he was. He tugged down on his hoodie and slunk below the bush again, listening to everything Dominique had to say silently.

… Rooms. Roommates? Ugh. Oh god, no that was… That was the absolute LAST thing he needed. Maybe he could like… hold out and hope someone would trio in a room, right?? … Nnnngnhh. The lack of privacy was the last thing he wanted, really. When you share a room, you share a lot of secrets, many things Kaoru DIDN’T want people knowing or seeing. Nonetheless. 8 rooms, 16 people. There likely wasn’t a choice. And boy howdy was the whole ‘killing’ thing a fucking farce. He’d rather share a room than let someone die, he’d take that ANY day.

Kaoru stood up from his hiding place, making himself visible and looming slightly over the foliage. He slowly stepped out and slightly more in the center of the courtyard, Shayler loyally trotting behind him. For the first time, he was getting a PROPER look at his peers. There was Matthew… The cute girl who ran away (never did get her name). Red and Jotaro, neither of which Kaoru wanted to room with. Alice was pretty sweet, yes, but…

Water | Chapter 1 Reaction | Silas

Silas had been uncharacteristically quiet since Dominique showed up, trudging quietly behind and listening.

Normally, he’d have laughed at the suggestion they were to kill each other and dismissed it as a cheap scare, but... he found himself genuinely fearful instead. Something about this whole situation felt infinitesimally more real to him than practically anything else before, but also, he didn’t quite seem all there for a while.

Eventually, after they arrived at the rooms, Silas slumped against the wall, eyes red and wet. Kill each other? How could anyone be so... matter of fact about that? It seemed laughable, but the threat of it seemed to have shaken him to the core.

He buried his face in his hands, giving a weak, pathetic laugh through genuine tears. “I... I can’t believe this. I... don’t want to believe this. I...” He slid down the wall a little. “...I could never do that.”

With Dominique’s word, you all decided to explore and secure a dorm for you and a friend. While the rooms weren’t… wonderful, they were still a safe place to sleep, and you could appreciate that.

Just as they had asked, you all returned back to them after deciding on rooms together, finding they had no longer that book on their person.

COLD OPEN | Silas | Prologue | Open

Silas came to lying on his back. How undignified. Groggily opening his eyes, his first thought was, “Man, this train bench is much more uncomfortable than I remember it being.” However, as he gradually came to his senses, he very quickly came to realise this wasn’t the train he’d fallen asleep on. For one, most trains do not make their seats out of cobblestone. For another, if this were a train, it wasn’t exactly moving. So, slowly pushing into a standing-up position, mostly because cobblestones are not particularly comfy on his exposed thighs, Silas very quickly figured out Something™ had happened while he was out. Come to think of it, how long had he been out? Minutes, hours, days, hell, maybe weeks? All he had to go off of there was that he was hungry. Hold on. More pressingly, he wasn’t the only one here. That was, admittedly, somewhat of a relief, but also more concerning. Glancing around, he very quickly recognised that a pretty large group, maybe about 15 other teenagers and what resembled a dog - wait, a dog? - were also in this not-train place. Ah, it’s a castle. A big castle, huh? There sure as hell weren’t any gothic castles en route to Shibuya. “Shit…” He rubbed his neck where his bracers had left a couple of small scratches. Judging by the expressions of everyone else, nobody knew what was going on. Raising his voice a little, he called out, “Hey, is everyone alright? Anybody have any clue what’s going on?”

Kouki was hoping someone else would have some answers, and from Silias’ hails it was clear to her he wouldn’t have any answers. Nonetheless, she responded to him anyway. She thought she might get some answers from figuring out who these people were.

“I got no fucking idea man.” She said with a shrug. “All I know is that something’s fucking up.” She remained in silent contemplation for a moment. “Who actually are you?”

He gave a quiet “Shit.” under his breath.

Silas raised a hand in greeting. “Hey there. I’m Silas Cameron, n’ I’m a lion tamer.” He hesitated, then added, “Shit, though. I was hopin’ somebody might have a clue. I haven’t the fuckin’ slightest.”

He shoved his glasses up and extended a hand. “‘N how about you, then? Got a name?”

Now that was a talent Kouki hadn’t heard before. “Lion tamer huh? That’s pretty wild.” She said, putting her hand on her hip. She thought he either had to be pretty brave, or possess a severe disregard for life and limb to be a lion tamer. Her mind conjured up a mental image of Silas being attacked by a massive lion…

Wait, no. Snap out of it.

Kouki felt reluctant to do so, but she grabbed hold of Silas’ hand, accepting the handshake firmly. “My name’s Kouki. Kouki Yamasaki. I’m the bass guitarist in Shin Akuma.” She have a soft chuckle. “If you’re into metal at all, you’d probably have heard of me

Hmm… That sure is a name Silas will probably forget. He’s like that. Well, one can only hope for the best, and maybe, just maybe, he’d remember, with a little bit of luck.

“Nice t’ meet you, Yamasaki-san. Can’t say I’m a huge metal fan, but y’know, I think I’ve heard your band. I get a lot o’ time t’ myself when I’m travelin’, so I listen to a whole fuckin’ load of music on shuffle; y’know, just see what I get.” He shrugs. “A bassist, though? That’s pretty fuckin’ rad. Bass really makes a song, y’know?”

He closes his eyes and smiles gently.

He gives a slight tut and a deprecating chuckle. “Always the damn people up front that get noticed for their shit, right? Nobody ever thinks ‘bout the people helpin’. Same in music as it is in t’ circus, I bet.”

Kouki frowned at the comparison between music and the circus, but just said “Yeah, sure.” anyway. She almost found it insulting to be compared with a circus, but she made sure to hide her annoyance, which wasn’t so hard when she had a mask covering most of it.

“Everyone one in our band has a crucial role. It would be pretty damn hard for them to not get noticed.” She thought about her band mates, suddenly realising she had no idea what time it was. “Fuck, I might miss practice if we can’t get out of here soon. I can’t keep those guys waiting…” Kouki was starting to get agitated. She still wasn’t any steps closer to figuring out what the situation was…

“Hey, Yamasaki-san. Look, thinkin’ like that’s just gonna get y’ fuckin’ worked up, and it’s not like we can do jack shit about what’s happenin’ right now.” He folded his arms and mused in thought for a moment.

“Hey, why don’t we take your mind off o’ it for a minute? Y’ mentioned your bandmates, right? What’s it like, workin’ in a band? I expect it’s pretty fuckin’ different to a circus troupe.” He sighed. “Oftentimes feels like we’re not workin’ together, but tryin’ to compete over some shitty audience. Bet you guys work t’gether much better than my fuckin’ lot, surely?”

“You’re hungry the majority of the day?”

Jotaro didn’t mean to seem rude when asking, but it did perplex him. Alright, well that was one idea down the crapper. This situation made it hard for Jotaro’s normally bright knowledge to shed wisdom upon him. 

“I’m sorry.” He said quietly, looking a little deflated. “This kind of situation is getting to my head.” He hugged his torso. “N-no matter! We’ll find a way out, I’m sure.” 

He hummed, looking around the two of them. What could they possibly do besides stand and wait for fate?

“Silas-kun, do you think you could help me?” He had an idea, “I could use your height. Maybe…if we try knocking on any sort of window or loose decor, we could alert someone inside!”

“Knockin’?” Silas considered this a minute, holding his index finger in his teeth for a brief few seconds. “S’pose it’s worth a shot. Hey, what’s the worst shit that could happen?” The ‘worst shit’, was, in fact, probably dropping Jotaro. But that would be... unlikely, to say the least.

He beamed widely again. “Ah, if I give y’ a lion-back ride up top, y’ve gotta hang on fuckin’ tight, okay? Don’t want y’ fallin’ and gettin’ hurt.” He paused a moment, quite clearly deep in thought, and then came to a sudden realisation. “Oh, fuck, my bracers. Uhh, try not to sit on ‘em. They’re on the blunt side of spikes, but they’re still fuckin’ spikes, y’know? They’ll stick int’ ya like nothin’ else on earth.”

He rubbed the fresh scratches on his neck. The bracers are wont to do that, if you were to fall asleep with your head lying on them. Which totally never happened, and it totally didn’t happen while Silas was out on the ground.

“Anyhow, if y’ want up, just lemme know and I’ll bend down so y’ can climb on up.” He then frowned, remembering how this bit started. “And hey, I’m not hungry all the fuckin’ time. It was night-time and I was on t’ train home, so I hadn’t eaten for a bit, y’know?”

“I guess you’re right…” He mused quietly, tapping his chin with his index finger. “If they truly wanted to hurt us, we’d probably be injured right now. Kidnapping alone is nefarious enough, but hurting us? Whoever is plotting this is really messed up.” 

He had met and dealt with situations a million times worse than this one, and yet it perplexed him. The lack of presence besides the kids around him made everything seem even more ominous. What exactly was going on?

At least his efforts were appreciated. He gave a sheepish smile before the other “lightly” touched his back. He stumbled for a mere second because gosh, that is a big man….but was fine shortly. 

“I wish we at least knew how long we’ve been here.” Jotaro added, looking up to the sky like the other boy did a moment prior. “I suppose that’d be the easiest thing to find out. Hey, are you hungry by any chance? If everyone is somehow hungry, perhaps we can calculate what time of day it is, and how long it’s been since we’ve all ate, revealing how long we’ve been away!”

He pumped his fist in the air. His plans seemed very bogus, but he was certainly trying. The boy was definitely intelligent, but faced with a situation this strange made things difficult.

“Hungry?”

Silas had to actually pause to think for a moment. Was he hungry? Did he know? He then very quickly came to a realisation. And so did his gut.

Grrrrrr...

“Huh.” He chuckled. “Looks like I might just be, right? Doubt it means much, though. I was pretty fuckin’ ravenous when I got on the train, so... I don’t think that’s gonna be much to go on. Nice idea, though. Wish I could think of shit like that!”

Silas tugged at his bracers, twisting them back and forth. Damn, now he’d realised he was hungry, it was rather at the forefront of his mind. He shook his head as if trying to shake out the bad thoughts, which didn’t really help much. “Ugh, not worth thinkin’ bout how damn hungry I am, I think. That kinda thing just gets y’ bogged down, right?”
