☩ Testing The Waters ☩ Komaeda & Kurapika
☩ This guy… Almost immediately Kurapika could tell there was something very off about him. Really, he’s seen his countless varieties of smiles and gestures and this one didn’t speak well in his mind. Kurapika’s eyes trailed up down this boy; he was considerably tall, but not very built. Rather lanky, actually. Perhaps he wasn’t a very healthy individual, he quietly concluded.
☩ He didn’t look strong, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t be dangerous in other ways. Kurapika would be sure to remain on his toes, even more so now that he was living with this guy. He lowered his shoulders, a deep sigh escaping past his lips.
☩ “Komaeda, is it?” He walked further into the room, keeping a careful watch on the other person. There was no letting up in ways of suspicious signs, but for now, Kurapika decided it was best to remain quiet. A curt nod and a quick flash of a small smile was sent in Komaeda’s direction.
☩ “I’m Kurapika. Let us… Get along, shall we?” It would make his life easier, after all.
The blonde boy looked him over with an expression similiar to that of noticing an ant hill precariously close to your designated picnic spot. Put out, for sure, and more than a little bit wary. Instead of taking any sort of offense from this cold behaviour, however, Komaeda was actually quite impressed. Had his 'husband' already pegged him as the trash he was? Maybe that fact had just become even more glaringly obvious then it already had been.
"Kurapika... Of course, I would love that," he replied with a smile, friendlyness unchanged by the other's more distant approach, "If you can stand me, that is."
Judging by first impression, he doubted Kurapika would want to participate in any sort of bonding time, and that suited him just fine. A quiet relationship where they kept each other an arms-length away would no doubt be the best way to go about things here. Still, though... he couldn't help but be curious about the boy he would be living with from now on. What made him tick? What were his faults? What did he exceed at?
"I suppose the least I could do is show you around your new place, right? It's pretty bare as it is now, but maybe in time it'll have all the personal touches of a proper home." The way this was said, it was hard to tell if their was a hint of humour in the words or if they were meant to be taken with seriousness.
please pester the workers || open
Choosing a job really hadn't been an easy task. It was a whole process he'd never had to go through before, not just for lack of want but for lack of need; when you win the lottery, money isn't a problem. It was unfortunate that he couldn't just stay home and out of everyone's way, because aside from having no particularly skills or assets to contribute to a work place, he had the included bonus of being a danger to society. Truly, hiring him would be taking on a liability. In this situation though, nobody really had a say in the matter, so it'd seem that both himself and whoever ended up being his boss were out of luck. Everyone was being counted on to make this world as productive and normal as it could be, after all!
He scanned through a list of occupations in his head, imagining himself in each one.
Bartender? He'd surely give someone the wrong drink, and it would interfere with their meds, and they'd die.
Wedding planner? The caterers wouldn't get his note and they'd use pistachios despite the bride being allergic, and she'd die.
Build-A-Bear? He'd put too much fluff into a stuffed animal and the child would be so upset that they'd throw a huge tantrum that resulted in their parent suffering a conniption, and they would die.
Barista? He'd spill hot water all over the till, and the till would malfunction and the cashier would get electrocuted, and he'd die.
Fry cook? He'd be cutting up onions, and would accidently get bumped into by a co-worker. Then his hands would fall into the deepfryer as he tried to break his fall, and he'd lunge back in pain, thus making himself trip. This would result in him falling onto a knife, and his manager would rush him to the hospital. On the way to the hospital they'd both get into a car accident, and while he'd miraculously survive all of his injuries, his manager would die.
........
After a long while of this back and forth in his head, he settled on working at the library. He could think of many ways to die in a library, for sure, but at least he could work in the back with the books and stay clear of people. Out of all possible dangers, this place seemed to have the fewest, so it would have to do.
Of course, there were the occasional, unavoidable moments where he'd be asked to go and do something in the main room. In fact, a shelver had called in sick today and left them understaffed, so this was one of those moments. Komaeda now had the regrettable responsibility of answering anyone and everyone's questions and complaints regarding absolutely anything.
☩ Testing The Waters ☩ Komaeda & Kurapika
☩ As Kurapika stands in front of room 4.016, he recalls the several strange circumstances around this new and foreign territory. There weren’t many people wandering the desolate streets, and while they didn’t intimidate him in the slightest, it was a little more than suspicious. Quiet and careful steps send echoes through the empty air, eyes scanning the area for any signs of life. There were a few individuals walking around here and there, but that provided little comfort that this was a safe place to live.
☩ Maybe if he was lucky, he’d find someone he knew. Someone he liked, preferable; it certainly wouldn’t be pleasant if he ran into someone he disliked. Kurapika sighed, fingers wrapping around the doorknob of the designated apartment. Almost immediately could sense a presence from around the door, one that roused a twinge of curiosity in his mind. Not one to take interest in tasks other than his own, Kurapika was now… slightly interested in who was currently behind the door.
☩ 'Never thought I'd end up in this situation,’ he muses silently, fiddling with the key in his other hand. Almost as if he were stalling for time. Kurapika was always on alert for any signs of danger and this was no exception, even if he didn’t sense anything particularly dangerous behind the door. That still wasn’t an excuse to let his guard down.
☩ After a few swift motions, Kurapika had the door open and was in the room within moments. The air was slightly stale, a mix of several scenes wafting the room and all of which remained unrecognizable to him. There were someone else’s belongings on one side of the room, and he automatically concluded that it belonged to his roommate- rather, spouse, as he’s been informed.
☩ A sigh passes his lips. Time to meet this supposed spouse and honestly wonder if he could ever get along with a new face. Kurapika held strong doubts about this. "Come out wherever you’re hiding. I’m your… husband.” That was strangely funny to say, in the most ironic of ways.
Somehow, someway, Komaeda had managed to attain another chance at life. In a topsy-turvy, senseless series of events, he'd ended up here in Iunctum, his new home. It was really all quite a blur; the last thing he could clearly remember before arriving here was waking up in a pod and finding out that he'd been in a coma. His death, along with his last few weeks of memories, had all been a computer simulation. Understandably, you'd need some time to take this all in.... but that wasn't going to happen, because the next thing he learned was that he was going to be relocated to an entirely new city.
Well, here he was.
His actions since then had been simple and without thought. Go through the motions, get to where you need to go and do what you need to do and don't make a fuss. It was happening, he had no choice in the matter, so questioning and acting out was pointless. Only now, in the master bedroom of his new apartment, did he really have time to think.
Was this good luck, or bad luck? There was war spanning across places so far that he couldn't imagine them, but he'd made it to a safe haven. Well, a safe haven where he had to play family with strangers. A safe haven where he couldn't even be sure if any of the people he knew, whether he liked them or not, had gotten to. Honestly, he could live with all that... But coming back to life after all of the awful things he'd done, after becoming the kind of person he detested more than anything else, was a curse.
A door being unlocked took him out of his thoughts and into the present. Who could this be? His.. husband? Child? It would take him a little while to get used to those terms, but he was ready to make the best of it. As long as they all kept a suitable distance, they could be a nice little family and stay out of harms way. Yes... for whatever time he had left to live, he would do his best to make good things happen.
Stepping out of the bedroom and into the lounge, Komaeda came face to face with the boy who would be his spouse from now on. Standing quiet a few inches taller then the blonde, he looked down at him with a casual, friendly smile. "Ah, I'm sorry about that, I was just putting a few things away...." his voice was soft, and a little raspy "I'm Komaeda Nagito, it's a pleasure to meet you! I hope that I can be a good husband."
