Le Gasp! She Finally Posts! | Janet | Chapter 1 | Motive + Body Reaction
Until she awoke in this place, Janet had never thought much about her classmates. Or other people in general. She was Janet Lynn, the proud, spirited dancer of the sea who didn’t need anybody but her board, the ocean, and her cat. She didn’t need anyone else in her life. Not her teachers, not her classmates, and certainly not her family.
… at least she thought she hadn’t.
The dream she saw made her wonder for the first time in her life– what if she’d been kinder? Opened her heart more.
What if she hadn’t shunned the girl who tried to make her feel welcomed? What if she hadn’t snapped bitterly at the kids who were only curious about her previous life? And what if she hadn’t punched the boy who’d asked what the hell her problem was? Or better yet– if she hadn’t bit the teacher who tried to break it up?
What if instead she’d returned the girl’s smile? Or humored the curious classmates? If she’d just accepted their friendship, rather than lash out at them like a snarling cat in so much pain.
Would her life be like the dream had showed her? Among a cluster of classmates, sharing jokes and watching them roll their eyes as she rambled on about last week’s discovery of a rare squid. Her eyes full of excitement at the thought of what lies undiscovered beneath the ocean, and how it was her dream to go find out. She was no athlete in this vision, but the ocean was always where her heart was. Perhaps even more than it was now.
The dream faded, and Janet felt her stomach twist.
Regrets.
She’d driven everyone away.
…
Janet filled in with the rest of her classmates. Her hair looking disheveled as though she’d just woken up from the grave, but in fact she’d been up for hours.
The sight was horrifying, and she felt sick.
And angry.
She glared at the sight.
“Some sick fucker is going to pay for this.”
What kind of fucked up mess did she get herself involved in?
