Oh, Yuki. That’s a pleasant surprise as any. She was one of the good ones. Still willing to follow her guidance. Gabby was no medium, she could do nothing for the lost souls of the dead, but Yuki could still be guided.

“Thank you dear.” She takes the bento appreciatively. When had she last eaten? This might be a good thing to take.

“I hope you’re doing alright child. I’m sure this game has taken a toll on you… Have you been taking care of yourself as much as the others?”

“As much as usual...?”

“How about you...? You seemed a little... lost?”

Only then did Yuki seem to realize she hadn’t brought a drink to go with the bento box. It wouldn’t be any good if Gabby choked on the food! Though it was small, so it would be strange if she did...

In the end, she chose to wait and see if Gabby intended to start eating before she tried to rush off for any water.

Fortune’s Future | Post-Trial/ch 3 open

Was anything real anymore…? Two more people had died, but it felt like it just flew by for Gabby. She tried to investigate and before she knew it she was in the trial. Could she say anything? Should she say anything? These were her children, she was to guide them. But some of them seemed to resist being guided, while others would eventually have to learn to operate without her guidance.

So she allowed them to continue without her help. Let’s see if they have what it takes to persevere without her. Of course it seems that suspicions are turning on her. She would step in and turn things around if she had to. But her patience for these children, who seemed so intent on going against fortune’s path, was wearing thin.

In the end, the culprit was found at the end. That’s fine at least. Another one she could have saved if they had just listened to her.

And now she goes on, time to find something else to do. Maybe she can try against o reach out to one of the children? She’ll try and find someone in the courtyard…

Despite also having stood catatonic during most of the trial, Yuki was a little worried for Gabby. It was probably still a little early to go to bed, since it was still morning and all... So what else would she do but put together a nice snack?

It seemed a bit easier to evade Ecaterina today, so she was able to fill a tiny bento with little star-shaped onigiri. ...Minigiri?

It would have been easier to hunt Gabby down if Yuki hadn’t tried searching the castle first, but eventually they crossed paths.

“Hi... Are you hungry at all...? It’s just a little bit, so...”

She offered Gabby the box.

Well, Ayato initial suspect for the murder had been incorrect, he figured Kae was too friendly and nice for murder, but everyone has a tipping point. He wandered around the castle out of boredom, being a ghost meant he could walk through rooms but being unable to interact with anything was the worst.

“So fucking boring here, where’s the goddamn ghost rooms” The chances of seeing one here probably were non existent. Ayato exited the castle and headed over to the stables where he saw Edgar lying down.

“Hey mutt, can you hear me?”

As someone who didn’t need to eat (and who was also a jerk), Ayato wasn’t anyone Yuki would seek out. But she was still getting around rather slowly, and it would be silly to run from a ghost that just happened to walk in. Er, wouldn’t it?

“What’s a ghost room...?”

Not that Yuki particularly wanted to see any dead bodies, but the one who reminded her of Tasuke... really wasn’t one she wanted to see. She guessed she could see him without the mask now... But it also seemed kind of pointless now.

She stepped back from the ring of people around the body and sighed. Eventually she peeked her head back in between some of them.

“Who wants... some water...? Or coffee...?”

Potions…? Oh! That’s right! Clara nods firmly, as if just remembering something herself - which she has. Once she got the potion from the church, she had totally forgotten about it, not understanding the purpose, but maybe it would be of help to Yuki.

“I have… a stamina potion. I obtained it… at the church. Would… you like it? Perhaps… it will help you. I have… no… use in it myself. It is better with you…”

She is ready to run off and grab it if asked.

Hummmmm... I don’t know... You sound... kind of tired, too...”

“I do wonder... what they taste like... They have to... taste like something... right?”

“Oh-Nee-Gear-Ree.” He pronounces out the word, a bit unsuccessfully. “I thought…it was all just sushi.” Confusion tinges his monotone voice.

“Lots of vegetables and fish…is good. Rice…is weird…but okay. Plain. Seaweed is weird. Eel is good. Rare. I like…fruits…haven’t had some in a while. I don’t exactly know…what I like anymore.” He pauses. “But no pizza.” He tacks on quickly at the end. No pizza. None.

“Can you..really help me with my diet? I need…more…more to me. I’m not enough.” He can feel how weak he is, after that stunt. How much it ruined him physically. He needs to get stronger.

Yuki slowed down noticeably as they entered the heat of the kitchen but kept plugging along nonetheless. She gripped her side.

“So the food... should have less seasoning, but... the rice should... have more...? Or... Hummmmm...”

“What if it’s... fruit pizza...?”

She nodded as she approached the pantry.

“I can definitely... make you more...!”

“There are... fewer bento to make now...”

Folke’s pace was naturally slow, so hopefully Yuki had no problems with keeping up with it.

“It’s more…the sushi. Weird. Way. To. Eat fish. You use more seasonings. Our food…very plain, very dull flavors…lots of flavor here…never had so much rice. And so little red onion and boiled greeneries.” He explained on the way.

“Aha... I don’t have sushi much, anyway... At least... not with the fish and everything... Lots of onigiri, though...”

Yuki continued to shuffle beside him as they approached the kitchen. The heat was already starting to become uncomfortable, but oh well. There were people who needed to eat!

“Most of the greens I just... wash and cut up, yes... Maybe I don’t do enough... of them... I’m not sure...”

To be frank, cooking wasn’t easy and Clara tended to stick with things that don’t need to be cooked at all. Perhaps not the healthiest way to live, but this was all digital, so it’s fine.

Shaking her head, she cracks a small, polite smile at Yuki.

“No… I am… fine. Thank you for the kind offer… I do… appreciate it.”

“… I see. That much… is a relief. If it has stopped… then… at least it can heal. I hope… it is not too painful…? Are… there any medications here to assist with that?”

Yuki nodded slowly. Clara was fine... All right...

“I don’t think... I’ve seen anything like that... There are... potions...? I don’t know what they do...”

“I can very well make my own damn food, I don’t need a sleepy girl with a lame ass talent to make my food”

Ayato frowned. “Nice? I couldn’t handle pretending to be civil to any of you losers any longer, too much work, killing two people and dying was easier if it meant I could stop the act”

“Yes, but I’m still... better at it than you.”

“I mean, dying... does sound kind of like the easier thing to do...? But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be nice...”

“Oh.” Came a innocent revelation. Folke blinked slowly at her from behind his glasses. “Lungs. Side. Diaphragm. Right. Sorry.”

“If you can make healthy…food taste good, then I’ll be happy. I…Japanese food, it’s odd…don’t quite get it yet. Trying to. Thank you.” He lead her with his usual silent ghost footsteps towards the kitchen, hovering nearby so as to potentially be some use if she struggled.

Yuki nodded slowly, though she wasn’t entirely sure what his first string of words was about.

“No, it’s fine...”

She wobbled along, managing not to sprawl headlong onto the courtyard grass as she crossed the threshold.

“Are they really that... different from Western vegetables...? I don’t... use that many of them, so...”

“You sound like…me.” Came the neutral comment. Her sentences were pretty broken up right now. Was it a bad time?

“Wanted you…to help me…plan. Food. Eating. Healthy. Me. I want to…get stronger. Food helps? But I don’t…know Japanese foods well. Nothing in the..kitchen makes sense.” Hopefully that explanation worked.

“Oh... My throat doesn’t... hurt or anything... It’s just... since I was stabbed...”

Yuki nodded enthusiastically, meaning she managed to do it twice.

“I can... do my best...! I know more about... making them look and taste good than... anything else, but...”

She began to shuffle out of the door, pulling it shut behind her.

“Shall we... go to the kitchen, then...?”

“Most people would like the nicer one better.” Ayato tilted his head after seeing her flinch afterwards. He brought his arm up afterwards.

“Wouldn’t want any of the food you make anyway, anything you make is awful” His comment probably wouldn’t be acknowledged.

Yuki nodded slowly at his first comment.

“Well, everyone... has different tastes... If you wanted something different, you... should have told me... While you were still nice...”

There waa a knock on Yuki’s dormroom door, quiet and pointed. Three short raps of knuckles. Standing outside it was Folke Nørregaard-Krøyer, waiting patiently and silently as ever.

It was only when she opened up that he spoke.

“Yuki…I would like your…help…if you could?”

For once Yuki was actually inside. This resting thing was troublesome. There was nothing to do in here. Nothing to cook, no one to clean up after, not even any sudoku books.

It was with a great jolt of pain that she got herself out of bed, but she just huffed and shuffled towards the door.

“Oh... hello...! How are... you? What... is it...?”

Yeah, Clara made herself rather scarce, only popping up when was absolutely needed, and even then, not saying anything. Her face twitches into a frown, eyes more in focus at the sight of Yuki and her wound.

“Ah, I am… I do not handle fire well… So… I apologize. I was… perturbed. However… my state does not matter…”

‘Doesn’t handle fire well’ seems to be the understatement of the century but I’ll give you that one, Yamaguchi.

“… How can I help you? Do you… need medical assistance? I… would be happy to do what I can.”

Oh... Cooking here must be tough, then, huh...? Have you been eating okay...? I can go... make something...”

“Oh, hummmm... I’m okay... The stab wound hasn’t... been bleeding again since this morning, so... Hummmmmm...”

After the bodies appeared, and the fire permeated her mind relentlessly, Clara was rendered absolutely useless. She stayed silent throughout the investigation and didn’t even speak a word at trial; choosing to, instead, stare blankly ahead of her, as if she wasn’t there at all.

God, did she wish she wasn’t there. By the time she manages to collect herself, everything has happened so much. She knows, of course, because as much as her mind flooded with those memories, she was still there. She knew… the trial, the execution…

What sort of awful game was this?

She wanted to go home.

Desperate for something to take her mind off of any of the thoughts swirling in her head, Clara took to stumbling through the halls of the castle. At this point, she had it memorized, but… Ah. Honey eyes blink, slowly, at the sight of another person.

“… Hello… I hope I… am not in your way.”

Her voice is hoarse from disuse, and, uh, you’re nowhere near in the way, Clara…

“Oh...! Clara...! I haven’t... seen you in a while...”

Yuki shuffled towards her, a hand held over her own wound in an attempt to stop it from stinging.

“I’ve been... meaning to check on you... Are you doing okay...?”

“I’ve been here the entire time, just at first i was pretending to be the goggle loser” Ayato rolled his eyes at her telling him that he shouldn’t really swear.

“Oh really?!, what are you going to do about it huh?” Not that she could do anything anyway. Ayato shot his arm out forward and watched it go right through her head. “Right, the ghost thing” He removed his arm afterwards.

“Oh... Okay... I kind of liked him better...”

Yuki flinched approximately 30 seconds after Ayato thrust his arm through her head.

“Well, I certainly... won’t be making you any food...”
