Roll Up The Rim To Live || Caadia || Toubei
Admittedly, the motive had shaken Caadia to the point where she simply could not leave her own room. For a couple of moments, she would escape to grab some food and swallow it down as soon as she possibly could before returning to her room. She couldn’t bring herself to find anyone– not when there was a chance of her being dead. Despite her fear that her parents would be harmed, the fear of herself being harmed was much greater.
But it could never compare to the fear she felt when she heard that once again, someone else had died.
As soon as she saw the corpse, Caadia let out a shriek. Truthfully, she…knew someone would die, the nagging in her mind wouldn’t let her think otherwise, but…having to be near a body like this and investigating it. Not only that, but there’d be another trial and then another execution and…if she kept this up, she was going to faint.
Caadia bit her lip nervously as she approached a familiar face from behind, body shaking as she stood behind him without a single word, only slowly bringing up her hand and gripping his sleeve from behind and tugging on it lightly. She didn’t think she could handle going through all of this alone, as her only other close friend was lone gone with another group, it seemed. Admittedly, being with him also made her nervous, but at the same time…she would probably be much calmer with him.
Whispering, she hoped he wouldn’t reject her proposal.
“…Um…T…Toubei…? Could…I stay w-with you…for investigation…? I…I um…don’t want to…be alone…”
Toubei had felt like the last bit of time had just been such a blur to him. It was strange, feeling as if he had all the time in the world even when death was a very real possibility. He had never felt so much free time to waste since his early childhood, and he almost felt as if he could have some of that early euphoria connected with being so blissfully ignorant of the world and still developing, exploring everything this plane of existence had to offer to you so long as you carried the initiative to be bold and adventurous.
The motive itself had very little impact in changing this mindset. He felt a strange amount of confidence in the safety of those that truly mattered to him, though he supposed the amount of apathy he had otherwise was a bit terrifying. For a man who whose highlight was supposed to be being able to portray emotion in connection with relationships, he felt strangely free of any burdens of interpersonal relationships for the most part. He tried his best to not let these concerns get the better of him.
It sounded quite stupid of him to think of the motive only in terms of being relevant to himself, because the sight of the corpse legitimately did come off as a surprise to him. He didn't feel as large an impulse to react violently as he had last time, but he did admittedly feel a bit nauseous nevertheless.
The thing to snap him out of concentrating too much on his state was when he felt a tug at his sleeve. He turned his head to look at who it could possibly be (though he had had a pretty a good guess, and frankly, he was pretty relieved and happy to know he had been right with his hunch), staring at her and taking in every softly uttered word she had to say.
"Ah... You can stay with me as long as you want, Caadia, really."
Was that an appropriate answer? He had no idea.
"Should we stay here or move elsewhere then?"
