Execution | Chaque chose vaut son prix.
(Alternatively Titled, Needlepoint; Take 2!)
(Tw for impaling, and crushing!)
In a blur, the verdict was laid bare for all to see, and the final moments of one Chou Nakahara were on display, and Monomi and TWELVE decided it was time for this charade to end.
Sarara and Chou were still on the floor near the elevator, and the former girl shot up, gripping Chou with an intensity unrivaled in previous weeks.
Unfortunately⦠from the previously sealed elevator doors came a collar, snapping around Chouās neck, dragging the unsuspecting gal away while the otherās grip was broken.Ā
And thus did the elevator doors shut, sealing the insect collectorās fate. The court room dimmed to give those witnessing the end a better view of the screen, and the sound of music filled the airā¦
ā«ā«ā«
How long had you been waiting for it to begin? The court room was so silent, it could be assumed an eternity had passed.
The screen nearby came alight to reveal the fate of the insect collector, wherever she may have been. Now, where could she have gone of to
Grainy film. A room, lit by the fading sun, a breeze blowing in through the half-open window, causing the gauze curtains to ripple in the stillness. Wooden floors. Framed, pinned insects on the walls. A record player in the corner of the room with its sweet sound wafting in.
And there, on the desk, was the smallest person ever seen. ⦠So it seemed. Chou, dressed in an elegant gown, hair curled to its maximum velocity, looking absolutely, positively mortified. Upon the desk, equipment for insect preservation sat, waiting to be utilized. And as she took in the sight of what would become her fate, a hand shot up to cover her mouth.
In the experience of the collector, sheād let it be heard that pinning and preserving was rare in her experience. But for others in her family lineā¦
Footsteps. Thundering, earth-shaking, and accompanied by the slow, sweet humming of a distant woman, making her approach.
Running across the desktop, Chou gathered her skirts and fled to a safer space, behind a rather large frame, propped up against the wall. With any luck, she wouldnāt be found. Their uneven breaths were obvious to be seen, despite the music muffling the sound.
The door creaked open after a good minute of suspense, the humming blending with the accordion, as a woman with blue, almost white hair entered the scene, donning the same style of formal attire.
And as the collector curled up, near hyperventilation, the voice came out, smooth and slow.
āChouuuuu⦠Ma douce fille, où es-tou?ā
Casually, so casually, the woman strode forward towards the desk, leaning her head down to gaze at each item, tsk-ing under her breath.
āTu ne peux pas cacher, ma chĆ©rie. Mon chou doux.ā
Her hands moved forward to pull the frame away, startling the already panicking Chou, causing her to fall back noiselessly. The woman chuckled, setting it aside while Chou searched for another place to hide, before snatching her up. Struggling, the collector kicked her feet, screaming,
āMAMAN!! LAISSE-MOI PARTIER! S'IL VOUS PLAĆT! !!ā
But alas, her screaming did no good. The womanās grip was crushing the air out of her, leaving her quite defenseless against the oncoming flood.
āVous n'avez jamais Ć©coutĆ©. Comment honteux.ā
She tsk-ed again, while pulling the frame back over with one hand, placing it on the desk.
āMon mannequin, vous allez enfin honorer le nom de Beaumont.ā
Placing the struggling Chou on the board, she pulled a pin from a glass container, promptly stabbing her directly in the abdomen.
Blood began seeping from the wound and Chouās mouth, staining the dress, releasing a very shallow gasp from the collector.
Instead of pained, they just looked⦠Betrayed. Through incredibly shallow gasps, shaking hands gripping the pin pressed through her gut, tears began slipping down their cheeks. Betrayal.
She was plucked from the board, pin and all, and dropped⦠falling and fallingā¦.
intoā¦
darkness.
ā¦
Where had the collector gone? Surely that wasnāt the end. Monomi wasnāt making her announcement that it was over. The lights were still dimmed, even after the music had ended.
Before the a gut wrenching thunk rang out in the center of the courtroom, paired with shallow, struggling gasps for breath.
A light shone on the culprit, on her side, the comically large pin still very much stuck through her, bloodied and broken. Very obviously, she had broken bones upon impact.
Raising one shaking hand to one Sarara Orikasa, who stood directly in front of her at her podium, Chou choked out:
āā¦Weāre all going to die.ā
The other girl stepped around her podium, wide eyed and ready to try and assist, help her somehowā
ā¦.Just before
an enormous flyswatter came down, between podiums, slamming down onto the collector with a final, deafeningā¦
crunch.
Crushed, before your own eyes, nevertheless.
The scent of blood was overwhelming, as was the gristly sight of her, thoroughly broken beyond repair, save for her prosthetic arm⦠still outstretched to the Art Curator.
This would be a sight⦠that would bug you for ages to come.
CHOU NAKAHARA, SHSL INSECT COLLECTORā¦
HAS BECOME AN EXTINCT SPECIES.
monotheater 4 | chou [r.e. sarara ; oh my god]
The smiling was nice while it lasted.
The other girl spoke, subsequently smiling and then practically breaking, Chou went from having the slightest twinge of a smile to an expression fraught with anxiety. An old woman?
Stillā¦
Still.
The events were hard to swallow. Even more so having this be so sudden, and⦠well⦠it wasnāt the suddenness that really caught her off guard. As if there was any guarding left to be had, honestly. It was the statement of it in general. When had she last heard thatā¦? (Chou could pinpoint the exact date, time, and who said it. Saying goodbye to someone who they wouldnāt see again for a very long time. ā¦That was troubling.)
And yet, still, again, Chou followed Sararaās movements, sitting on the floor with her legs bent to the side. Sararaās head was on her lap, and Chouās focus was shifted entirely to her. What an absolutely strange set of events occurred, to have led up to this moment in time. This absolute shift in mindset, appearance, and⦠everything.
Not⦠entirely sure of what to do in this situation, Chou busied herself running their fingers through the now orange hair Sarara was sporting, mumbling,
āYes, your hair isĀ veryĀ orange now. When did you do thatā¦?ā
Now wasnāt the time for that. Speaking at the same tone, Chou had to⦠give a response.
āIf it isnāt obvious, Iām in love with you too. I donāt doubt for a second this will be an ongoing⦠affection. But, if weāre being honest, I canāt imagine you as an old woman. And I hope I donāt see you again until your hair has greyed, youāve been beset by wrinkles, and youāve lived a long and truly warm life. Iām not one to wish anything upon others, but this exception must be made.ā
And what she did to really cap off that feeling, to make it last, was to lean down and kiss her forehead⦠Preferring to linger there, forehead to forehead, no matter how uncomfortable the position looked.
What else could she do?
monotheater 4 | chou [r.e. sarara ; goodbye may seem forever]
Okay, so it looked like going peacefully into the night wasnāt on the menu.
Again, people were surprising Chou as her partner was violently shaking, before the two were separated, and ⦠well⦠it was declared that they werenāt going to die.
A bold statement from a misguided Curator.
Chouās hand was taken and she was brought to the elevator, and the following events caused what little energy they had left to be fueled with adrenaline and shoved into action.
āSARARA!!!ā
She physically shrieked this, prying the other girlās hands from the elevator upon seeing the blood, rather firmly grasping both hands in her own.Ā
āOh my godā¦ā
Chou muttered, staring at her hands, then at Sarara, looking like the unfortunate cross-mix of horrified and⦠honestly sad. Her next movements were to use her bright green coat to rub the blood off of the other girlās fingers, her own hands shaking just⦠so slightly, while speaking extremely quietly.
āThis isnāt right. You canāt get the elevator door open. This⦠is unfortunately where this is ending, and I know you want to get me out, but⦠but this is where my actions have taken me. And itās out of my hands. Itās out ofĀ yourĀ hands.ā
And there was a tear, again. Falling onto the still injured hand of her lover.Ā
ā⦠Asking you to be strong, for my sake, would be selfish. This isnāt my hour of need. This is my hour of facing what fate has given me. My life has led to this point. And Iām accepting it, readily. My body is breaking down. I doubt Iād have much more time left here, anyways. So, Iām imploring you.Ā You.Ā Sarara Orikasa. My dear companion and treasured heart. Iām imploring you toĀ live.Ā Considering⦠everything⦠It wonāt be easy, but youāve lived a life before me. With me. And now, after me. It isnāt goodbye. Itās justā¦ā
Chou swallowed, obviously pained by whatever she was going to say next.
āJust⦠a memory.ā
And she stood, holding her hands, looking intensely at the face of one Sarara Orikasa. Focused. So focusedā¦
āIām sorry Iāve done this to you.ā
monothea 4 | chou [r.e. sarara, yuka, michiko ; let's make the most of the night...]
There was no accounting for how sheād react to being talked to so kindly. It was already obvious, regardless of anything, that Chou was obviously overlooking some major components to her time in Ateitis when giving her spirited rant.
People were actually trying to help. That wasā¦Ā weird.Ā She looked painfully shocked every time someone else spoke. Even moreso when she took the antidote, and it was capped off by Sarara taking her hands and speaking so⦠gently.
What had she done to deserve this?
(When you kill two people, youād think thereād be a bit more backlash.)
Even after the antidote was taken, there were tears still streaming down her face. Oh, god, what a bad idea this had been.
āā¦My dear. Speaking from the most lucid state of being I have been in in days, I have to break the news that⦠There isnāt escaping this.ā
She squeezed Sararaās hands, trying to blink away what was coming next.
āI canāt⦠avoid it. My fate is sealed. I deserve to be punished for this, as Iāve acted in the laws of this place, and⦠well⦠Itās my time to shine, so to speak.ā
She took a cursory glance over the others nearby and across the room, her expression more determined than anything.
āMy name is Chou Nakahara. Iām 18 years old. Iām an Aries. Iām not dying from the poison; this is just naturally what Iāve been living with. Itās been getting worse, since my immune system is wretched, but I thought it best to make thatā¦clear.
"I donātā¦. Know if it was the fever having you all speak to me that way or not, but⦠From the bottom of whatever heart I have left, thank you. ā¦For not⦠forā¦
āā¦Iām sorry to have let you all down. I donāt expect forgiveness, but what I do hope is that I can serve as a reminder of what⦠not to do.ā
And Chou looked back at Sarara, down at their hands⦠pausing to try and reflect, before speaking at barely a whisper.
"Sarara. Youāre⦠a treasure. Iām sorry itās gone this way. Iām truly⦠and honestly sorry.ā
It was cursed to see Chou ever cry. It was doubly cursed seeing her cry so much, especially as she let go of Sararaās hands, instead choosing to embrace her. The height difference was awkward, but⦠at the moment, that didnāt really matter.
And she whispered something to Sarara; just.. Ā so she could hear it.
trial 4|post 9 | chou [r.e. genta ; chouwned]
She stood there, miserable, as Genta began to speak. She hadnāt really expected⦠a response, necessarily. But god, she hadnāt been hoping for one from⦠well.
Genta or Sarara. Neither of them. She didnāt want a response from either in regards to this mess. They thought it best to just⦠die and get it over with, but no. There needed to be a few more nails in the coffin, so to speak.
Every new thing he said just.. made her break a little bit more. There wasnāt any good reply to be made; he was justified, certainly speaking the truth.
Strange, she thought, considering he was normally the devilās advocate. But justified.
And a good part of her could recall the very,Ā veryĀ first week they met. God. You know what they say⦠āNever meet your heroesā.
In offering part of his sleeve, with the question that followed⦠that⦠was really⦠it.
āā¦No.Ā No.Th⦠thatās not who I want to spend my last moments as, Sugai-san. I was weak. That much is certain. And Iām sorry anyone had to see me like this.ā
Weakly, she took the torn portion of his sleeve, nodding in thanks.
āā¦Itās not easy.. being green, Sugai-san. Forgive me for letting you down.ā
trial 4|post 8 | chou [r.e. everyone ; it all turns to dust]
TW FOR SELF INJURY
It had been a valiant effort. Chou wore shock poorly; showing expressions was⦠painful for both the bearer and the witness alike when it came to Chou. Regardless of how uncomfortable the situation was, it was happening,
There was no way out of this. Her last ditch recovery effort had failed spectacularly, and Chou stood before the congregation, scanning the gathering for any signs of life, shortly after hearing Sarara whisper about going to Italy.
There was no time for that. Not anymore.
ā⦠It can be said⦠that in my life, I have been a straightforward, honest person. I was never one to hide from blame, considering I have been blameless. Iām no oneās favorite person. Iām no oneās favored talking point, nor am I someone of some⦠incredible note.ā
She took a deep breath, making it clear they were actually building to something, while taking a moment to rub the blood off her mouth onto her sleeve.
āAnd, as a Super High School Level student, I felt I was better somehow. But now I see. Now I see the truth.
āWeāre all the same, here. All of us. No matter how good we think we are, or how powerful, or godly, or even how small and insignificant we may believe we are⦠weāre all the same. Useless. Nothing. Nothing we are can possibly compare to another personās accomplishments, or life choices, or anything.
āAll we are is pathetic specks on the glass, ready to be cleaned off by the universeās cleaning rag.ā
It was obvious, Chou was starting to shake again. They swung their arms out, looking more manic by the second. Her glasses legitimately flew off during the movement, falling onto the podium, then onto the floor.
āWeāre nothing. Nothingā¦! Impossibly small and completely and wholly arbitrary! And this isnāt even the fever talking. Weāre nothing! WE AREĀ NOTHING! Useless! Pathetic! Disgusting! Worms! Weāre all worms! Blind, unseeing, wriggling masses of flesh just waiting for death to claim them!!! I canāt WAIT to die! I canāt wait to be free of the pressure! Can you believe what itās like, living under such constant tension? Being hated by everyone in your life sure doesnāt get easier as time goes on! It only hurts more! It does! It really, really does! Iām not trying you all feel sorry for me, I swear toĀ FUCKINGĀ god thatās not theĀ fucking case. There are so, so many assholes in this world. There are so many. And Iām one of them. Iām one of those beautiful assholes who walks with their head held high, and pretends theyāreĀ soooo good, when in reality, Iām justā!ā
Chou gestured to herself, voice cracking as she let out one short laugh, tears starting to come from her eyes.
āLOOK AT ME! Iāmā I⦠ah.. Hahahaā¦.. HAH!! LOOK!!ā
She pulled a pen from one of her pockets, lifting it into the air, clicking it to produce the nib. And, quite honestly, they slammed it in, stabbed themselves in the thigh, maintaining a completely vacant expression the entire time. Not a single sound came from them during the process of this. Silence, even while pulling it out, holding up the bloody pen, save for a burst of laughter immediately following that, as she dropped it on the podium.
āNumb. Iāve got nothing left in me. All there is left of me isā¦. Isā¦. nothing! Iām nothing! Iām nothing! I wanted to kill the STRONGEST mortals here! I played god and killed two assholes who thought they were soooo good, and above everyone else, but Iām the same! Iām nothing! Iām⦠nothingā¦!ā
And she shrunk again, arms wrapping around herself, letting out softer, pained laughs, the very same tears slipping down her cheeks.
āChains. You have to make sure⦠You let go of the chains of peopleās expectations⦠Of whatās to BE expected of you, and your own inhibitions. In those moments⦠yes, in those moments, when your chains are gone⦠you can really see⦠who you truly are. And it seems there is no better fate for me⦠than that of a worm who so desperately wanted to be a butterflyā¦! Oh⦠my⦠godā¦! Iām emptyā¦!ā
Silence followed. Her fate was in the hands of the majority, and as god as her witness⦠Chou knew this.
And knew it all too well.
trial 4|post 7 | chou [r.e. michi ; uhhhh]
All she could really do was stand there and stare, before grabbing the glove back, letting out a wheeze.Ā
āOh my god.ā
Yeah, that was definitely a reason to go āOh my godā. Wearing a grimace, she turned it right side in, grumbling while sliding it on her hand⦠before⦠pausing.
ā⦠Uh ā¦ā
Sweat could definitely be seen on her face, in addition to the blood and overall paleness.
ā⦠Goooo⦠Bando Eco Loggingā¦?ā
Perfect.Ā Definitely outdone herself here. Chou said that while throwing a peace sign, looking like she was going to be sick again.
trial 4|post 6 | chou [r.e. yuka, michi, nails ; nails nails nails]
By this point, Chou just looked⦠tired. She gave a nod to Sarara as she butted her way into being right beside her, letting out a sigh as both she and her companion were being called into questioning.
āYeah. Kagomeās seen my nails. Butā¦ā
A sigh, again, as she pulled her gloves off rather quickly, putting them down on the podiumās top. Palms out, then in, she showed her hands off to the crowd; it was exactly as Yuka had said. Right hand was manicured and painted green, left hand was just the prosthetic.Ā
Picking up the left glove, Chou waved it to the crowd, hissing,
āLook, Iām going to bleed out before this trial ends, can we come to a conclusion here..?!ā
trial 4|post 5 | chou [r.e. yuka ; hey.]
With the assistance of Michiko, Chou was stabilized, but⦠she couldnāt help but grimace at the surrounding events. All she could grumble was,
āHey, c'mon, I donāt want to beĀ executed.Ā Who knows what that would entailā¦?!ā
Chou votes for Captain Adachi. Shhhh. Not all of Parel is voting here
when no one was watching, the entirety of parelthon voted for adachi. thatās as many as 19 votes. can they be defeated. tune in next episode
trial 4|post 4 | chou [r.e. ...fuck ; ęå¾ć®äøäŗŗćÆćć ćć]
BLOOD TW
So⦠she got up. This took a grueling amount of time, as she managed to stand, turn back to the congregation and rest against the podium.
āYes. Iām dying. ButĀ listenĀ to me. I didnāt do this. Orikasa didnāt do this.Ā LISTENĀ to meā thereās stillā¦t hereāsā¦. still a gap. Thereās a gap between times, comeĀ on.Ā You canāt account for who was in the kitchen before Kagome got to her post. You canāt account for who could have left the lobby and been waiting in the Pachinko Parlor. For godās sakes, donāt dog pile on a dying woman and her last refuge in this godforsaken place.ā
She took a deep breath inā¦. 1, 2, 3ā¦. outā¦. 2, 3.
āItās easy to just⦠claim one of us did it. But obviously.. you all want to catch the right killer, yes? The killer, or killers? I beg you all to not just chase down one pointless lead or the other.ā
ā⦠Or, do it. You know? What do you all have to lose. Just another useless person occupying useless space. Iām exhausted. Iām running on a timer. Do as you will, and for the love of god, donāt blame me when this blows up in your face.ā
trial 4|post 3 | chou [r.e. yuka, genta, sarara ; wah⦠wah⦠wario]
EMETOPHOBIA TW
It could be noted that this was not a standard event. This was absolutely strange. The situation was strange. Obviously, the fever had fucked with just about everyone in the court room, butā¦
Chou stood there like the last leaf clutching a branch, desperate to hold on as winterās chilly breeze threatened to tear it away. That is, shaking and looking like death had paid her a personal house call.
Yukaās accusations were the straw that broke the proverbial camelās back, and if Chou hadnāt already looked sick, that was the killer.
Sarara and Gentaās interpersonal interactions werenāt helping matters. And as the dizziness took hold, Chou gripped the podium for dear life, looking like any second could be her last, beforeā¦
āGod⦠isā¦. DEAD!ā
And rather abruptly, they turned from the court, collapsing to her knees⦠promptly⦠hurling her heart out. Which, frankly, that looked to be the case, as 99% of what came out of Chou was literal blood. This wasnāt the production of a healthy person.
A good time was had by all, to be sure
