Freedom
After Apostolos checked Ayako’s pulse, and Silas checked Mashiro’s, almost instantaneously they both raised their heads to the group. They both slowly shook their head no.
“I’m sorry Mafuyu…” muttered Silas with a stifled breath.
Apostolos sighed, taking his hat off to cover his chest. “She’s gone too…”
It was official. Mashiro and Ayako, the star crossed lovers… They fell in love the same place they died. It is a cruel, twisted fate.
“N-No…” Mafuyu whimpered, “N-N-NO!” She yelled with tears flowing down her face. She buried her head onto her late brother’s chest. “Nii-san…” She cried into him, her voice muffled by his jacket.
Amidst the sorrow, Ollie dragged his way to Mafuyu’s side and leaned next to her. “Hey… I know it is rough… But we need to go. The Oni won’t be down for much longer if Mashiro didn’t finish it…”
Mafuyu glanced at Ollie, her eyes red and puffy. “I-I…” She seemed conflicted. She didn’t want to leave them… But she knew what must be done. “Nii-san… Nii-san would want us to leave… I can’t let their sacrifices go to waste…!” She yelled out, determination lingering in her voice.
It brought everyone else to a small smile, as she soon got to her feet. She watched as Rasmus scooped up the freshly-dead corpses, before looking towards the others. “I know the way out of here… Follow me.” She uttered, as she quickly turned on her feet and ran through the forest.
The others followed her, running through branches, brushes, jumping over logs, and dashing through meadows.
And then… They saw it.
They saw the light.
The group had made it through the forest, and through the entrance they all had came from.
They saw a line of police officers, police tape, an ambulance, paramedics, EMTs, and citizens watching from behind the lines.
One of the EMTs on the scene saw the group and their eyes widened. They barked out, “Over here! We found them!”
A group of medical assistance got gurnees out for Rasumus who was slowly losing consciousness, and Ollie as well who was still bleeding large amounts of blood through his hand. One of the officers ran to the group and asked what happened, which Sayuri said she would take care of. Silas was off making sure Ollie was alright and Apostolos made sure that Mafuyu was holding up alright.
Eri watched as the bodies of two teenagers were loaded into an ambulance, already well aware it was beyond anyone’s capacity to save them.
It was chaos.
But it was done.
All the pain…
All the suffering…
All the despair…
It was done.
They were finally free.
Flashback
When the battle against the Oni began, some of you stayed behind to fight, but most of you fled, egged on by your own desires or the desires of those that asked you to run. Even as Mafuyu led you all out in tears, in anguish that neither her brother nor his girlfriend were running from the fight, you couldn’t help but wonder if this was truly the right thing to do. The door outside opened, and the five of you escaped towards the dark forest, rain pouring from above. Apostolos, Eri, Sayuri, Silas and of course, the little sister that Mashiro had betrayed all the students here for. But you didn’t run. Not when there were still people you cared about inside - other than Apostolos, who stayed nonetheless.
The first to leave, or rather, get thrown out, was Rasmus. The gentle giant was bruised all over and his back looked like someone took a bite out of it, but the Ice Cream Maker was alive. Even as he struggled to get back to his feet, Eri and Sayuri were there to support him. For it had not been for naught - between his large hands, he held a distinctly black, oversized arm, stump still bloody. It was quickly disposed of, flung into the forest lest it ever be reattached.
The second to be launched out of a window was Ollie, and as he fell, Silas was already running. He reached the Historian in time to soften the blow, and Ollie was alive, though once again heavily injured. His face had taken quite the brutal blow, and one of his hands had a hole in it. What was in the hole, however, proved to be the reason. A pure white fang, almost the width of Ollie’s arm, was embedded in his palm - it had been snapped off at the base. Apostolos removed the offending tooth and chucked it far away, as Silas tended to his lover.
Only two left…You waited…and waited…As the mansion grew quieter and quieter.
Just as you thought it was time to give up and run, a figure emerged from the door. For a moment, you all were on guard that it had to be the Oni, but a closer look revealed that it was carrying another human-shaped figure just like it, and from this distance, that white jacket was recognizable anywhere.
“Nii-san!” Mafuyu cried, but it was clear her brother was in no condition to answer.
His arms were purple and pink - internal bleeding had set in. One of his legs was clearly snapped the wrong way, and the front of his jacket was stained with blood. Ayako, in his arms, looked uninjured, but it didn’t seem like she was breathing…
Just…what had happened in there?
FLASHBACK
“FOOLISH BOY! YOU DARE TRY TO DEFY YOUR FATE?!” the Oni yells, and Mashiro has to resist the urge to say yes. He needed…to…escape…
His leg, already weak from being flung into a wall, collapsed under him. He fell to the floor in pain, his coughs gurgling with blood. It was…too much…Even with one hand, the Oni was…relentless. He was going to die here…but at least, the others…
“Go f-fuck yourself.” He managed, accepting his death. The others would be…safe.
“Mashiro!”
No…That voice…Nngh…Why…?
…it was…the one person he feared would…come back for him.
“Ayako, don’t…!” He tried to yell, but by then, the footsteps had sounded.
“You will leave…him…ALONE!”
The sound of two entities colliding was the only thing he heard, as he heard Ayako charge across the room and into the Oni. A brief respite of silence…before something warm and female crashed into him.
Even as he scrambled to hold Ayako steady, he could hear how grievous the injury was. Her breathing was shallow and he could feel the trickle of blood drip down her chin, and as he cried into her shoulder, her hand found his cheek.
“Why?! Why…did you…come back?!”
“Because…I would…never have…abandoned you…I live…and I die…by your side…”
Her other hand pressed something into his chest. It was hard…pointy…and it was what Ayako had sacrificed herself to retrieve. Her hand fell slack even as Mashiro continued to hold it.
“THAT INSOLENT…BRAT! IN THE END, A FRUITLESS ENDEAVOUR…AS EXPECTED OF YOUR PITIFUL EXCUSE OF A WOMAN!”
Something inside Mashiro snapped. Setting her body down gently, the Chessmaster forced himself to remain steady, getting onto his feet. The fang was in his right hand.
Scarlet eyes. “Her name is Ayako Ichijou.” He charged. “And this is her revenge.”
END FLASHBACK
“I…stabbed the Oni…If he isn’t dead…he very well should be…” Is all Mashiro can manage before he collapses to the ground, completely spent. Ayako rolls away from him, and he weakly reaches out to…to…
He can’t reach her and he knows it. But she doesn’t.
By the time Mafuyu and the other six of you reach them, they are lying side-by-side, hand-in-hand. There’s a distant look in their eyes, and they’re only barely breathing. Ayako’s chest has been caved in with one powerful blow, and blood flows from her mouth in rivulets. Mashiro’s bleeding too, all over, and even as Mafuyu collapses to her knees, crying beside him, he shudders and opens his eyes. “It’s…It’s okay, Mafuyu…the nightmare…it’s all over…”
She doesn’t have the capacity to respond.
“Ma…shi…ro…?”
“I’m…I’m here, Ayako…”
“I’m…cold…”
“That…you are…”
The two lovers shared a brief chuckle that quickly descended into a coughing fit, as the two struggled to stay alive. There was no denying the outcome, unfortunately, and them of all people knew it.
“Won’t you…warm me…up?”
“I can…try…”
Even in the darkness that was steadily getting darker, blindness could not stop the hands of the two snaking into each other’s hold. She felt icy to the touch, and he none for the better.
But in that one moment, everything was perfect.
“I love…you, Ayako…”
“And I love…you too…Mashiro…Let’s get…married…someday…”
“Yes…Let’s…”
And with their final vows said and last words were spoken, their hands fell, still clutching each other.
Desolation
Oni had watched this entire trial with a smile on its face. Only when Mashiro said those words, were when it showed its teeth.
And the ever ominous and bone chilling laughter of the demon arose.
“Mwaha… Mwahahaha…. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!” It roared at the group of students.
“So… You all… Finally got here…” The Oni still has its creepy as hell smile on its face.
“It took you… This long…? I would have thought… It would be sooner… Mashiro Naitou…” The Oni placed special interest on the poor Chessmaster’s name.
“Now… You all… Expect a vote…? Don’t you…?” The Oni asked what to you sounds a completely rhetorical question.
“Well… Sadly… You won’t get… That satisfaction…”
What? But Mashiro was the one who killed her…
“Bound by my rules… I can’t kill him…” The Oni looked disappointed by this, but you are wondering why.
“This wasn’t… A premeditated murder… As the boy said…. It was… Self defense…”
Thinking back on it… The Oni has a point. This is the first self defense case you all have had…. What does that though…?
“However…”
Oh boy.
“However… I can kill him… For another reason…” And ever so slowly does the Oni’s smile return.
“For he may not… Have done that acts… Himself…” Now its teeth were bore again.
“He is the cause of them…”
What?!?!
“Because Mashiro Naitou…” The emphasis is placed once again on his name as the Oni turns and stares directly into Mashiro’s eyes.
“You were the one who brought them here.”
You could feel your heart at the statement.
Does that mean…?
No…
It can’t be…
“YOU ARE THE MASTERMIND!” The Oni stated with a howl at Mashiro, whose eyes were widening and a cold sweat forming on his forehead.
So it is true…
Now what to do…?
Sepulchral
Another body.
Another drop of blood.
Another lost soul.
Another time for debate.
Another time to send one to their death.
You all reflected on this as you heard the Oni’s ever so ominous voice ring out throughout the mansion.
You all knew the protocol by know.
Once everyone had piled into the trial room, the Oni let out its ever so unsettling chuckle.
“It is time… For another trial…” It uttered.
A trial…
A trial of truth.
A trial of lies.
A trial of life.
A trial of death.
A trial of love.
A trial of hatred.
A trial of hope.
A trial of despair.
“Everyone… The trial… Of the murder of… Hitori Shishikusa…” It paused for longer than usual.
“SHALL NOW BEGIN!” It boomed out.
Time for the final huzzah.

It had been a few hours since the Oni dropped the lame excuse for a motive, when you hear the ever familiar voice announce something again.
“Come to the… Film Room…”
Film Room? Again? What is happening this time?
Filled with curiosity, you all walk back to the film room, with the Oni staring at you all.
“I know… It has been a few days… Since you arrived here… To compensate your patience… I have created something for you all…”
The Oni waves one of ts hands behind it to reveal…
A huge stack of DVDs.
“You haven’t seen a movie since you left… Supposedly. So I have… Some movies for you all to watch… It is what you would call… A movie night.”
Wait, let’s get this straight. The Oni. Is letting us have a movie night?
Where is the Oni and what did you do to it?
“There are some rules though…”
“Only six people may be outside of the film room… At a time… During movie night. When someone returns… Feel free to go in their stead…”
“Movie night will go… From now… Being 7 PM… to 7 AM….”
“Finally… You mus watch at least one hours of movies…”
You try to process everything that was just said.
“And with that… I am gone… Have fun…”
And just as it said, the Oni vanished.
Gold
It has been a few days, you think, since the trial and the execution of Flora. Most of you all seemed to be on your wit’s end, and just felt exhausted.
However, you hear the ever familiar and creepy voice of the Oni reach your ears.
“Everyone… Gather in the film room… For I have news to give…”
Since everyone knows better than to cross the Oni, you all soon enough were standing in the film room, staring at the creature. At first you thought it was terrifying, but now after having seen it every day, you have grown immune to its looks.
“It has been some time since the trial… And no one has died yet… That doesn’t surprise me… Since it took raising your fear to kill someone last time…”
You all look onto the Oni expectantly, waiting for it to one day stop talking in dramatic pauses.
“I have a new motive for you…”
This already doesn’t sound good. You can feel your anxiety increasing.
“You humans all are the same… You are all driven by something… From what I have learned of your kind… One of those things is greed.”
Wait, greed? You are confused as to what the Oni is saying now.
“So the new motive is… That whoever kills and wins the trial… Will be awarded ¥100,000,000…”
All of your eyes shoot widely as you hear the number. ¥100,000,000?! That is insane!
“Before you ask… Remember I am a demon… I can conjure anything you need…”
To show as an example, the Oni stuck out its hand and suddenly 2 stacks of ¥100 appeared from nowhere.
“Another announcement will be soon… For now though… I must go…”
And just as it did all of the other times, the Oni vanished into thin air, leaving without a trace.

The Votes Are In!
A large golden slot machine appeared in front of the Oni after it checked all of the answers. It started to spin, each panel displaying another person’s face.
When the spinning was over however, you weren’t surprised by the face it landed on.

Discovering Mashiro in such a state had been quite shocking, but at least he had turned out to just be unconscious in the end. You felt like you could relax knowing he wasn’t truly dead. But then a thought nagged at you. If he was alive, then why had the Oni’s motive ceased? Shaking away the thought, you stepped out into the living room, feeling just a tad better that no one had perished during the night. Then something in the room caught your eye.
What was that over there?
You approached, curiosity growing when your blood ran cold. Was this… was this somebody’s arm?!
Oh no. You knew for a fact that neither of Mashiro’s arms had been removed, so… whose arm was this? Around that moment in time, you heard a scream from the right hallway. A feeling of dread lurking in the back of your mind, you raced over to figure out what was going on in time to see a terrified Hitori run out of the piano room.
“I- IN THERE!”
That’s all she managed to get out before she ran off. With a heavy feeling in your heart, you entered the piano room. Right away, you knew something was wrong. Nothing about what you were seeing was okay.
You didn’t want to confirm your suspicions, no way did you want to. But you weren’t going to get anywhere from just standing around and blatantly ignoring what you saw in front of you. You could tell there was something– no, someone in the piano and you needed to confirm this.
You slowly approached the piano, ignoring the tense atmosphere as you looked inside.
Shion Kataoka, the SHSL Fencer, was dead.
Can't say that comes as a surprise | Ollie | Mashiro's Awakening
At the sound of yelling, Ollie casually turned his head to find Mashiro rising. About freaking time!
“Oi.” Ollie called out to him, a smirk on his face. “I was wondering when you’d get up. Mind helping us out here or are you going to continue your nap?”
He turned to face the other’s, noticing the shock on all of their faces. “What? You seriously though he was dead? You lot really shouldn’t jump to conclusions.”
Silas was relieved that Mashiro had survived the attack, and he was about to help Mashiro tend to his wounds, but then, at Ollie's reaction, Silas stopped in place and frowned. "...You knew..?" He asked, in disbelief at the insensitivity of the situation. Silas gave Oliver a look of betrayal and took a step back before swiftly turning on his heels, tossing his hair over his shoulder, and rushing back to his dorm room.
The Darkest Room | Body Reaction
remembermeforcenturiesbitch
Ollie smiled sadly at Silas, taking in the sight of him. He was being so considerate of him and it was tugging at the heartstrings. “Indeed he is.” He said finally. “Mashiro is one of my very best friends…I cherish him.”
Ollie truly was upset by this event, he’d personally make sure the perpetrator would pay. However, he also knew that now wasn’t the time to let emotions take over him, that was already happening to the other’s. He also knew Mashiro. He most certainly would not go down like this.
After Silas finished talking, Ollie closed the distance between the two of them and hugged the matchmaker. Despite the brave face he was putting, Ollie knew that his lover was hurting too. “Everything will be alright.” Ollie whispered into his ear.
Silas just watched Ollie closely and gave a sad nod when Oliver confirmed that Mashiro was indeed someone he cherished.
Silas glanced back over to the body of the Chessmaster slumped lifeless under the tree. Not only was this event tragic for Mashiro, it was definitely taking it’s tole on most of the other students as well. Mashiro must have been something of a symbol of hope to the students, the way he refused to speak poorly of anyone, and the way he drew people together. For Mashiro to be the first one killed at the hands of a classmate, it was almost like stepping on people’s optimism directly through Mashiro’s death.
This is also a troublesome situation, as Flora takes up residence within the branches of the tree and for himself.. he might’ve been the very last person to see Mashiro before he was attacked. He didn’t mention this out loud, though. Instead, he just relished Oliver’s hug and reciprocated.
“..I know.” Silas responded soflty before pulling away from the hug. “..it’s just.. tragic. That’s all. He was too kind..”
The Darkest Room | Body Reaction
When Silas heard the screams, he quickly made his way to the dining room, just to discover the body of a friend. Silas was saddened to see that Mashiro had been killed, but, at the same time, he wasn’t at all surprised. Silas had even warned Mashiro that if he didn’t act with caution, he would be an easier target than he already was. Silas crouched down in front of Mashiro and bowed his head, whispering a silent prayer for the chessmaster. Once he finished, he took a step back and observed the body. It really is depressing. Silas just couldn’t get through to him, and now, it was too late.
As Ollie continued his investigation on the body, he noticed his beloved looking sadly at Mashiro. Wanting to help ease the pain, Ollie walked over to him and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze.
Silas instinctively put a hand over Oliver’s hand and looked over at the historian. While Silas did consider Mashiro a friend, Mashiro was definitely closer to Oliver than he was to him. Silas wondered how Oliver must be feeling.
Silas gave Oliver a small, sad smile and then gave Mashiro’s body another glance.
Once Silas felt like he had seen enough for now, he gripped Oliver’s hand and pulled his hand down, as if to lead him somewhere. Silas walked them both away from where the other students were gathering before he said anything.
“...Mashiro was a good friend of yours, wasn’t he?” Silas asked, squeezing Oliver’s hand.
“...He’s in a better place now, Oliver.” he whispered softly before growing silent again.
