layer by layer [ Yuki | Masae ]
When Masae awoke, she felt a lot worse than before. The first thing she realized she needed to do was catch up on what she missed during the last minutes of the trial before she stumbled out the door and into her cabin to sleep. She groggily lifted her ID to her eye level, and began reading the transcript.
‘a… few extra cars…?’
Masae flipped to their maps and looked at the new additions… Karaoke… the infirmary? The… gym… She was honestly too tired to even realize what she was reading. Glancing at the time, the speedcuber noticed she slept for a little under an hour. She dragged herself out of bed- luckily, her roommate wasn’t there to see her in such a state either. Sighing heavily, Masae stood up, stretching for a few seconds.
Gathering a new outfit, she made her way to the bathroom, conveniently as always, right next to her cabin, and took a quick shower. Plastering on all the bandaids she realized she needed, Masae walked out of the bathroom with her hair still damp, and still put up into her trademark ponytails. Pulling on the ponytails just a little tighter, Masae looked around the hall. Suddenly, she held her head for a moment- it seemed that she was getting a headache of sorts. Sighing in pain, a few deep breaths later, Masae seemed to be fine. For now. Looking up to the hallway, she saw a familiar face.
Straightening up a bit, she gave a polite smile and a wave to the other student. Scratching her face for a moment, she looked at her hands, which had a lot more bandaids than usual, but it didn’t stop from Masae walking up to them and start signing with a bright smile on her face- or at least as much of a smile as she could muster.
☞ Wakahisa-san! How are you feeling? I haven’t talked to you in a while…
Even though they were one of the few people Masae had the pleasure of be able to use JSL with, she hadn’t lingered with them as much as she did with… other people. Either way, it didn’t mean that she wouldn’t be thrilled to speak with them at all. She waited patiently for them to reply, focusing on their hands, knowing that they had a hard time with their own signing.
Following the post-trial drama, Yuki had beat a hasty retreat to their room, gathering their belongings and dressing in a new, much less formal outfit. Slipping out of the room, they prioritized looking about the new areas, their grey eye flickering warily about. However, they felt as though they were safe enough, though on further thought the emotions caused by the trial had resulted in the behavioralist neglecting how tired they were. Though there were new areas to explore, and besides, they could always figure this “resting” matter out later, right?
And currently, they had made their way from the gym to the karaoke room at a slow plod. Eventually, they leaned against the wall of the hallway they were in, glancing about. Soon, they found themself lost in their thoughts once more, of the situation, of the new areas, and of why the execution was an execution and seemingly designed to humiliate the recipient. And he hadn’t even known it was coming most likely, had he? Still thoroughly disconcerting, even if they didn’t know the person.
But it was still a human, and human lives were something they valued highly. Perhaps there was still some way to fix this, to free the others there, even if Yuki’s own wellbeing was placed on the line. They were surprised at how calm they were about this prospect, that they would try their hardest to aid the other students escape, even after seeing the price that they might have paid. Abruptly, they were brought out of their thoughts as a noise at the back of the cart sounded, and they turned to discern its origin.
Ah yes, Masae Atoshi, someone... they didn’t admittedly know well, but they could easily be fixed. Returning the gesture, grinning, and bowing back, Yuki nodded at Masae as she signed towards them, returning with a few gestures of their own.
<<Hello Atoshi-san. Ahh, I’m... a bit unnerved after that spectacle, but the train guardian person did warn us... quite unfortunate, though, indeed. I hope you are doing well, I noticed...>>
Yuki’s signing was slow and deliberate, and after the first part of their sentence, they stole a quick glance at Masae’s hands before deciding not to comment.
<<...That they drew the entire ordeal out? I do not think that is legal in real life, even if I am not a lawyer or specialist in legal affairs. I am but a simple psychologist, heh. Is everything alright, though?>>
And they would leave it as such.
