DON'T STOP ME NOW | TERU | Prologue | Reaction

It wasn’t very hard to see just how riled up the writer was since before the ferry had even arrived. They stepped out of a plain looking black car visibly shaking with excitement, whipping their head about trying to get a good look at it all. A man exiting the car laughs obnoxiously loudly before putting a hand on their shoulder, taking their attention away from the sights, sounds, and scenery. The two disappear behind the car, and when they come back with TERU’s luggage a second man has joined the two of them. TERU hugs them both, the quieter man returning it reluctantly before they split from one another. TERU runs out towards the dock as the men watch before returning to the car and driving off.

It’s impossible for them to stay still as Yui talks, and even more so during the ferry ride. They try to take in as much as possible well they still can, gasping and gawking the whole way to the Gardens. Every second the grow nearer they find their heart rate speeding away. They try, pitifully, to hold still and listen to the new adults words. It’s hard with their brain racing and the urge they have to just run and never stop. Run run run, all around the gardens and take in everything they could. They barely hold still when they receive their watch, still shaking, bouncing, ready to explode at any moment. They fumble until it’s on, insisting they can do it themself.

Rules, ah, that was no good. Well rules were meant to be tested, and they would do nothing if not bend them be it slowly or hard and fast. They feel particularly crestfallen at having a curfew, but if the elevators wouldn’t work they would just run around the dorm area instead. They fiddle with their luggage, just waiting for the speech to be over. It’s not as if they aren’t thankful, they are, they are so very thankful, but it’s taking so long. They’ve been waiting so long and they can’t wait any longer. Before Ayame is even done telling them where to go they speed off, sprinting towards the elevator shouting a ‘thanks’ and pressing the call button exclusively and fast. They can’t wait a second longer they need to explore now now Now! 

Their heart is racing, blood pumping, mind whirling, and they’re not going to be held back for a second on this trip. Not by anything or anyone.

Under the Sea - Prologue 3

“Ah, now that that part is settled…” Finally, Ayame steps forward. She looks a bit nervous, to tell the truth, looking down at the tablet she’s holding in her hands as she begins to speak.

“I am Ayame Shime, former SHSL Architect, as well as the one who spearheaded this whole project. The base idea and design of Verdant Gardens is mine, but I could hardly do it alone. Tanaka-san, Ishii-san, and the rest of the team involved played incredibly vital roles, and my… dream couldn’t have become a reality without them.”

As she speaks, she warms up a bit, obviously proud of the work she and her team have completed.

“That being said, it is incredibly important that everyone here follows certain rules, so that we can continue to expand the city. At the moment, only certain parts have been completed, and it is… honestly a bit more like a hotel with some fun accommodations rather than a full city, but there is a lot of pressure from both Hope’s Peak Academy and the Japanese Government to open our doors as quickly as possible. N-not that this trip is only just to appease them! I really do want to share what we’ve worked so hard to create with the students from my old school…”

“Anyways… the rules…” She looks back down at her tablet, as if repeating what is written there. “Obviously, anything that is illegal in Japan is illegal here as well, and will be punished as such. We’ll be particularly hard on any destruction of property, as well, considering you are guests in our city. In addition, there will be a curfew since this is a school trip. You will all be required to return to your rooms at eleven at night, and spend the night in them. In order to enforce this, the elevators be out of service at night.

“In addition, in the area where your rooms will be located, there is a dining area, a kitchen, and a garden. Breakfast will be served to you by our robotic chef at seven in the morning, which is when the curfew ends. Of course, if you want to make your own meals you can, but you won’t have to. And please be careful with the plants in the garden, as Tanaka-san has worked very hard on them. You can use them if you’d like to include them in a meal, but destroying them counts as destroying property.”

“Oh and on the real don’t mess with the settings on anything except the thermostats in your room. I worked hard on getting these bots fine tuned and I don’t want none of y'all throwing off the calibrations for shits and giggles.

“Y-yes, that too! Although that would also count as destruction of property… But those are the main rules! I hope you all have a wonderful week, and can help provide feedback so we can make our project even more wonderful! Um… your room numbers are on your watches, and the elevators to the living quarters are over that way - “ She motions to a door to the western direction “ - so you can all drop off your luggage before you start exploring.”

And with that, she walks off in the direction she had just pointed in, opening the doors to the city. It isn’t a particularly spectacular ending to the speeches, but it’s an ending nonetheless. Now all that remains is one question:

How will you spend your week?

Running Ashore - Prologue 2

Waiting on the dock are two more individuals, presumably Ayame Shime and Hanesuke Ishii. Ayame steps forward immediately, smiling when she sees Yui, but quickly putting on a more serious in order to address the students. Yui seems to have forgotten about appearing professional, as she bounces over to Ayame, throwing an arm around the other girl.

“Did you get lost on the way here? You’re….” Hanesuke pulls a pocket watch from his vest pocket and checks the time. “Well just because you’re on time doesn’t mean you’re not late.”

“Hey! I couldn’t control the speed of the ship! I’m not the SHSL Captain or anything,” Yui retorts, puffing her cheeks. “All I could do was sit on the deck and look pretty. Right, Ayame-chan, didn’t you see me waving at you?”

Ayame sputters a bit at Yui’s comment, blushing and bringing her tablet up in front of her face. Luckily, Hanesuke comes to her rescue and steps forward to address the class.

“Oh yeah hey kids, Hanesuke - that’s me - has a gift for y'all.”

Hanesuke suddenly remembers the briefcase at his feet. He bends down to retrieve it before clicking the latches open revealing 4 even rows of 4 sleek watches. They match the aesthetic of the gardens rather closely if you’re paying attention.

“Well okay I say gift but it’s more like…. Hmmm…. a mandatory accessory. You slap this bad boy on your wrist and the gardens are yours. In a sense, not literally, can’t have y'all wanderin places you ain’t supposed to be.” Hanesuke smiles pulling up his own sleeve to show off his own watch.

“These little beauties let you check a map of the gardens and even shows you where you are at the moment. They’ll act as your Room key as well, annnnnnnnd they have a few fun functions I’m letting y'all test drive for me so I’ll let you discover them on your own. Hey Aya, Yui can you help me distribute these? They’re preloaded with these munchkin’s info.”

Bold words for a man who barely broke 5 feet tall. One at a time Ayame and Yui help distribute the watches amongst the students, helping those that need it attach them to their wrists.

"Oh and hey kids, before you get any ideas about testin’ the durability - don’t. Even though I, Hanesuke, am a genius who built them to be tough and waterproof, these here are the prototype models and I’d hate for you to have to sleep in the food court because you can’t get into your room, capice?”

So The Journey Begins - Prologue 1

Finally the day has come for your trip to Verdant Gardens. Just getting to the ferry is enough of a journey for some of you, even with Hope’s Peak providing transportation. Meeting everyone at the dock is a woman wearing a pink romper and a sunhat, as well as a man in an… interesting suit. Some may recognize the woman as Yui Tanaka, the former SHSL Ecologist, and most may know the man as Chousuke Nomura, headmaster of Hope’s Peak Academy and former SHSL Prankster. He greets you with a wave, while Yui watches, excited smile on her face.

“Greetings all!” Chousuke grins widely. “As excited as I am to meet all my new students, I’m just here as a formality, Tanaka-san’s gonna do most of the explainin’! After all, she’s the one involved in the project. So without further ado, take it away!”

“Thank you very much, Nomura-sensei!” Yui replies, and her excitement is palpable. She’s practically bouncing as she looks out at you all. “Some of y’all might know of me, I’m Yui Tanaka! I studied at Hope’s Peak Academy as the Super High School Level Ecologist. And I’m one of the founders of Verdant Gardens!”

She grins at you all, her eyes roaming over the class, as if she was taking you all in. “We’re so excited to have ya!” she continues, punctuated with a little bounce. “We’re going to be takin’ the ferry over to Verdant Gardens. After all, it is under water! There we’ll see Ayame-cha- Oh! I mean Shime-san and Ishii-san! We’ll be your chaperones for this orientation period, so our dear Headmaster will not be followin’.”

Once Yui is done with her explanation, the students are ushered onto the ferry and the journey continues.

It isn’t a long ride, not much longer than an hour, but is a beautiful one. The sun is shining overhead, its reflection shimmering across the water. The coast is never far from view, close enough to make out the scenery, but not enough to make out the smaller details. At least, until you begin to approach Verdant Gardens itself.

The silhouette of the city certainly stands out, glass structures breaching the surface of the ocean. The ferry directs itself towards the largest, central structure, docking in front of an area that seems not unlike a shopping mall. Yui stands at the exit, watching as you all disembark and making sure you have everything you came on the boat with.

Congratulations on your acceptance to Hope’s Peak Academy! Recently, a group of alumni from our school have announced the opening of their eco-city Verdant Gardens, an underwater city which runs on solar, wind, and water power. Before the official opening, the creators of this city have extended an invitation to the incoming class. This will also serve as an orientation period before the school year begins, so attendance will be mandatory.
