Letter to Dr. Garrison

Dear Professor Garrison,
For someone who enjoys personality tests like StrengthsQuest and Myers Briggs, I haven’t thought much about how my past has affected my desires. I have put a lot of thought into how, especially my parent’s divorce and my biracial identity, has affected my life in terms of events. I really enjoyed thinking about how those big events in my life have affected my desires and how I see the world on an everyday basis. For my box, I chose to include a lot about the people in my life and how they have influenced me, but I also included many screenshots of things I saw while browsing through social media. I never seeked out what I screenshotted, instead I just screenshotted things that I saw randomly. I was happy to see that much of my curated feeds contained positive social justice conversation. I wasn’t surprised, or you could say happy, to see that much of the feed that I didn’t follow or curate (e.g. Snapchat news stories and ads) contained problematic content. I chose to include the people in my life and social media because I think they are both huge influencers in my life. I pondered how other people’s curated feeds looked like and if they stuck themselves inside a bubble.
Looking back on the effort I put into this project, I think I put in a substantial amount. I always put a lot of thought into my annotations and because they were limited to a certain amount of words, I tried my best to only include the important information. If I were to go back and do this project again, I would map out my “story” and how it is expressed more.
Sincerely,
Sarah Hughes
