Finally Norfolk gets a decent house festival...
I just want to share good music. Fuck the DJ, the talent is on the turntable,
Kenny Dixon Jr. aka Moodymann
(via dead-american-writers)
Afghanistan, Chechnya... nope Detroit.
Moodymann (Kenny Dixon Jr.) comes back with a self titled album in 2014. The record of course is pretty much a remix of Funkadelics 'Cosmic Slop' witch was originally released in 73' on Westbound records. The piece preserves the funk/soul roots of the original, with samples of the original record repeated through out. George Clinton appears on the record as a new vocal. The record is slightly more downbeat as it goes matchs the depressing subject matter of growing up in Detroit during the decline of industry that left 1000's unemployed. An interesting record which is a bit different from your average dance track.
Photo of the day~ Nina Kraviz, the queen of techno and bubble baths...
Yes Yes Perfect
cheers fella
The truth from a the legend Carl Cox
A mix i made comprising a selection of tunes which in my opinion capture the festival experience and are the perfect tunes to kick off your summer. VIBES. Releases from: Nina Kraviz, Waff, Guy Gerber, Mosca etc...
Easily one of the biggest records of the summer, Jamie XX further persuades us of him being one of the most in demand producers on the planet. The piece serves as a tribute to the 'golden days of rave culture', and in particular its origination from the UK. Jamie XX cuts vocal samples in throughout the record which reference various moments within the rave years of the nineties. He makes a heavy emphasis on the UK as being originators of this culture, 'and we kept it UK'. The record is littered with haunting steel drums which can be seen in many of his other productions both as a solo artist and as a member of 'The XX'. The track uses lots of reverb and industrial sounds which sound harsh, coupled against the sorrowful rising chords that carry the track. As a dance record the song of course features a heavy pulsing bass line which rides along side a disjointed drum loop. Gonna be hearing this alot this summer.
Hot Since 82 back with another stellar production, to be released as a debut on his recently formed record label 'Knee Deep In Sound'. This piece encompasses everything i like about his records. The record has a huge catchy bass line in keeping with all of his other productions to date, as well as an array of well placed 808 snare rolls. The name of the track references the sampled WWII-esque alarm which rings out before each drop. HS82 never disappoints. Can't wait to play this one out!
Another quality record from Mr. Tenaglia in the form of a remix of british house duo X-Press 2's track- London X-Press. Released in 93' the track does have a sick old school vibe, exhibited with the ruthless use of a cowbell and a screaming archetypal female vocalist. This track is fire.
Recently downloaded Danny Tenaglia's discography. Upon trawling through his collection i came across this. A remix he did of Liberty City's- Some lovin'. The remix captures the aspects of the original that i liked, but builds on them with a rolling 3 note bass line that kicks off the track, opening up into the breakdown with a hook catchier than the original in my opinion. The record sounds more stripped back and less chilled than the original as a result of the frequent parts of the piece that lack all bass, which only builds anticipation until the rolling bass line kicks in again. Vocal sampling way ahead of its time can be heard considering it was released in 1993!
A lovely uplifting track from Hyper Colours Axel Boman, released in 2013. This record slipped through the net, as i was shocked that i had only just heard it yesterday, as one of the tracks within 'The Mix Collection: Tiefschwarz- Renaissance'. The track was orignally released on the A side of the 'black magic boman ep' along side the much darker sounding 'television people'. As for the record, Boman employs an uplifting soft piano riff which fades in and out throughout the record witch upholds its relaxed feel good vibe throughout. This track is perfect for summer. But don't just take my word for it...have a listen.
Why make another House/Techno blog?
I've always loved dance music, and over the past few years i have developed an addiction towards the pursuit of finding quality new and old music (especially within the bounds of House/Techno/Disco). Being an aspiring DJ (attempted producer) myself i have always found it hard to break through a lot of the trollop that clogs the Beatport Top 100 list in the search of finding new exciting records. There is such a wealth of quality dance music out there that gets overlooked (given that i had been completely clueless until about a year ago). I guess id like this blog to be a testament to the sharing and reviewing of uncompromising great dance music.
