Easily one of the biggest records of the summer, Jamie XX further persuades us of him being one of the most in demand producers on the planet. The piece serves as a tribute to the 'golden days of rave culture', and in particular its origination from the UK. Jamie XX cuts vocal samples in throughout the record which reference various moments within the rave years of the nineties. He makes a heavy emphasis on the UK as being originators of this culture, 'and we kept it UK'. The record is littered with haunting steel drums which can be seen in many of his other productions both as a solo artist and as a member of 'The XX'. The track uses lots of reverb and industrial sounds which sound harsh, coupled against the sorrowful rising chords that carry the track. As a dance record the song of course features a heavy pulsing bass line which rides along side a disjointed drum loop. Gonna be hearing this alot this summer.
A lovely uplifting track from Hyper Colours Axel Boman, released in 2013. This record slipped through the net, as i was shocked that i had only just heard it yesterday, as one of the tracks within 'The Mix Collection: Tiefschwarz- Renaissance'. The track was orignally released on the A side of the 'black magic boman ep' along side the much darker sounding 'television people'. As for the record, Boman employs an uplifting soft piano riff which fades in and out throughout the record witch upholds its relaxed feel good vibe throughout. This track is perfect for summer. But don't just take my word for it...have a listen.
