Hi dudes! Here's a little something for SH Winter Week, based on the prompts from @shweekly. This will be a short series, hopefully. I haven't finished writing out everything yet. I hope you enjoy :) Please see the author's note at the end for any additional notes.
Written in the Stars | SasuHina | Summary: Modern AU - Sasuke never got the chance to tell Hinata his feelings towards her before he left to study abroad. Now he's back. AKA: Sasuke is too busy being butthurt from being abroad and everyone acts as his wingman to help finish what he started before he left... if he can stop being butthurt.
Part 1: Winter Constellations
Hinata huffed, slowly climbing the ladder leading up to the rooftop of the onsen-ji her family owned. On days when she needed to feel peace, she often laid on the rooftop tiles and looked for the nightâs constellations.
Today was one of those days.
Hinata shivered and brought her jacket closer around her. It was forecasted to snow soon, and the onsen-ji would be busy in the next coming days. Winter was always their peak season. Exhaling a long sigh, Hinata settled herself on the clay tiles and laid down with her long hair fanned out under her, staring at the clear night sky.
Silently, she began mapping the night skyâs constellations.
âThereâs Orionâs Belt and if thatâs there, then Orion is rightâŠthere!â Hinata smiled to herself, proud, even though sheâs mapped the constellations hundreds of times before. Ignoring her buzzing phone, her eyes searched for Rigel, the brightest star in the constellation.
âWhat was the trick to finding Rigel?â she thought as she squinted her eyes at the night sky. Hinata tightly closed her eyes and blinked a couple times to refocus her vision. âOrionâs Belt goes up like thatâŠâ Hinataâs eyes followed the slight curve of the stars and her mind drifted to a memory she kept to herself.
It was the eve of her birthday that year.
Traditionally, she celebrated her birthday the day before with friends since her family celebrated her birthday by staying in the temple all day. Rubbing her gloved hands together, Hinata followed a boy with dark hair to the ladder steps leading to the templeâs rooftop. They had left their group of friends in one of the rooms, fast asleep and warm, having karaoked themselves out during their festivities.
âSasuke-kun? What are we doing up here?â she asked as she followed him up the ladder.
He looked down at her between the ladder steps. âYouâll see.â
Hinata softly chuckled. âO-okay, Sasuke-kun.â
Sasuke grunted as he hefted himself over the last step and offered his hand to help pull Hinata up as she got closer to the top of the ladder. He pulled her in close, sharing his warmth. âKeep your eyes closed,â he whispered in her ear.
Hinata felt her heart skip a beat - in anticipation, nervousness, having Sasuke so close; she doesnât know. Obediently she closed her eyes and allowed Sasuke to lead.
He kept his arm wrapped around her, as he held her hand with his free hand. His voice was gentle as he guided her away objects she could trip on.
âYou really need Neji to come back from college and clean up the roof,â he muttered. Hinata smiled, hearing the smirk in his voice.
âOr you could come, and Iâll help you clean up,â she answered. Sasuke didnât respond back but she felt him pull her closer to him, squeezing her hand.
He brought them to a stop and Hinata felt the warmth of his arm leave her shoulder as his hold on her hand.
âOkay, open your eyes.â
Hinata opened her eyes and softly gasped at the sight in front of her. Sasuke had cleaned up a small portion of the roof, and what greeted her was a thick blanket laying on the tiles, a quaint picnic basket was placed upon the rooftop ledge. String lights were strewn up providing a soft glow to the scenery.
âSasuke-kun,â Hinata breathed out.
Sasuke gave her a small smile. âCome on, hopefully your cinnamon rolls will still be warm.â
Hinata smiled at the memory. Remembering that night well, after enjoying the cinnamon rolls, Sasuke taught her how to identify the constellations. She could still remember his voice guiding her through the process. âNow remember to find Rigel, you just need to find his belt and then follow the line to his foot. AndâŠthere it is.â
Hinataâs eyes traced Orionâs Belt once again and, true to his word, when she followed the imaginary line to where Orionâs foot would be, Rigel shone brightly.
Hinata nearly jumped out of her skin when her phone started buzzing in a consecutive pattern. Fumbling with her phone, she squinted as her eyes adjusted to the brightly lit screen.
She bit her lip as she scrolled through her missed text messages.
Iâm so excited~ I canât wait to see everyone! đ- Ino
The hot springs are gonna do wonders on my aching muscles~ đ - Sakura
I could help with that⊠đ - Naruto
Gross! Keep that shit to yourselves!! - Kiba
No one needs to know! - Ino

See you all at the famous Konohagakure Onsen-ji! đ- Ino
That was nearly an hour ago. The airport is one hour away from the onsen-ji. They would probably be here in the next thirty minutes or so. Gulping down her sudden nervousness, Hinata figured it was time to get herself ready for her friendsâ arrival.
Hinata dusted herself off and made her way towards the ladder to go back down when she felt her phone vibrate.
âThe hawk has landed and has been retrieved! đ ETA: soon-ishâŠâ - Naruto
Despite her nervousness, Hinata couldnât help but smile. She quickly sent a reply and made her way down the ladder to enter the warm temple.
âGood evening, Hinata-sama,â a voice greeted her. âI take it you had a refreshing time up on the roof?â
Hinata gently nodded her head. âYes, thank you, Ko-san. Has the Presidential Suite been prepared for our guests?â
Ko bowed his head. âEverything has been prepared to your requests, Hinata-sama.â

Familiar scenery whizzed past him as he sat in the backseat of Narutoâs car. Sasuke perched his chin in the palm of his hand, as he looked out the window. Nothing much had changed since the last time he was in the country, but at the same time, he felt everything had changed.
âDude, seriously?! Youâre going to get another traffic ticket if you run one more red light!â Kiba yelled from the passenger seat to the blonde who was driving.
Naruto shrugged his shoulders. âWhatâs one more traffic violation? Besides, I wanna make sure we get there before the girls and Shino, so we get the best view!â
Sasuke heard Shikamaru let out a small sigh as he felt the small car speed up.
âYou know Hinata secured the Presidential Suite, right? Thereâs no need to speed up. Weâll all have the same view.â Shikamaru rolled his eyes, stopping at Sasuke next to him. His hair, grown out a little longer since the last time he saw him, covered his face but he could tell the mention of Hinataâs name had unnerved him a bit.
âIsnât she great?â Naruto dreamily sighed. âBeing the heiress of an onsen-ji must be amazing! Having people at your beck and call, the great food, and the sweet, sweet hot springs,â Naruto shimmied his shoulders in delight.
Kiba and Shikamaru kept silent, aware of Hinataâs real situation with being the heiress, and watched Sasukeâs reaction from the corner of their eyes.
Sasuke, unaware of their eyes on him, turned outwards to the window and stared up at the clear night sky.
âIdiot,â he whispered.
Shikamaru cleared his throat and caught Narutoâs eyes in the rearview mirror. âDid you tell Hinata weâre on our way?â
Naruto slowed to a stop, arriving at a red light. âOh, shoot! Let me do that right now,â Naruto took his phone out from his pocket.
Kibaâs eyes widened as motorcycle police pulled up next to them. Promptly, he snatched Narutoâs phone from his hand.
âHey!â
âNot in front of the cops!â Kibaâs head jerked towards the passenger window.
Naruto sheepishly smiled as he made eye contact with the officer. He nervously gripped the steering wheel.
"Why don't you tell Hinata-chan thisâŠ"
Sasuke tuned out Narutoâs voice. The scenery outside soon changed from a cityscape with tall buildings and bright lights to Japanese pine trees illuminated by the stars.
A stark contrast to the life he was living for the past four years. Sasukeâs lips pressed into a thin line. Living abroad was an absolute nightmare for him. He couldnât find a way to fit in at university, not to mention the language barrier made it difficult for him to express himself in the first year.
And if he was caught up with the wrong people, well⊠Sasuke looked down at his hand and closed it in a fist. He knew how to take care of them nonverbally.
He broke out of his quiet musings as he heard Kiba, and Naruto loudly laugh and mention Hinataâs name and the onsen.
Sasuke looked down dejectedly. His thoughts moved to the girl he left behind. He couldnât blame anyone but himself for not keeping in contact. Though they had tried to keep in touch in the beginning, it began to fizzle as the months abroad turned into years. And daily texts had slowly turned into sporadic messages sent at odd hours due to their time difference. But still, she found ways to surprise him and even sent him a care package through his brother Itachi âIt seemed like she was really busy, but she took the time to make this for you. The least you could do is say thank you.â Sasuke could hear his voice clear in his mind.
Sasuke responded by sending her beautifully woven cloth of deep purple with silver thread sewn in intricate patterns for her to use when her familyâs announcement of becoming the temple heir became public.
âHey.â Shikamaruâs low voice broke his reverie. âHinata hasnât changed that much.â
Though Shikamaru wasnât looking at him, Sasuke turned to stare at him.
âSheâs still the same, sweet Hinata from high school. Just a little bit older and more responsibilities.â Shikamaru glanced at him from the corner of his eye. âShe hasnât tried dating since you left.â
Sasuke let this information sink in.
âWeâre here!â Naruto announced. âDamn, the girls and Shino beat us to it.â
Naruto parked his car right behind Sakuraâs car and waved at the trio. Sasuke got out of the car and shivered. Snow would fall soon, he mused. He grabbed his things and slammed the door shut. Kiba noisily ran towards his best friend while Shikamaru and Naruto followed to greet the rest of their friends.
Sasuke looked around, noticing that not much had changed at the temple. The trees may have gotten taller. The stone steps may have gotten a little smoother. He looked up and immediately spotted the constellation he was looking for earlier. The corner of his mouth lifted up in a small smile.
âGood evening, everyone,â a soft voice called out.
Sasuke sharply turned around. He wasnât sure if he was ready for this moment. He noticed their friends surrounded her as she stood at the entrance of the temple. Slowly, he took her in with slightly widened eyes. She was a little taller than he remembered, her violet hair a little longer, but her face still held the same smile and gentle eyes he remembered.
âWelcome back,â Hinata smiled at him with a soft blush on her face - probably from the cold, he decided.
âI-â Sasuke instantly became aware of their friends' expectant eyes on him. Heart beating wildly in his chest, he schooled his features into a blank expression.
âHnn,â he nodded and made his way towards his friends. He couldnât help but notice Hinata wore a brighter smile than Rigel shining in the sky.

Mini Author's Note: honestly, I'm not very good at summaries. So, I'm keeping that as is.
Also, an onsen-ji is a hot spring temple - so, in this AU Hinata's family is running a hot spring inn with a temple on the side - or a temple with a hot spring inn on the side.

The sound of the front door opening signaled her husbandâs arrival. Quickly dropping loose yarn and sharp needles in the weaved basket, she shoved it under the coffee table with a stocking-clad foot. Any proof of her previous activities was gone by the time his silhouette appeared at the threshold.
Uchiha Sasuke, her husband of four months, shredded his outer coat (leaving a thick sweatshirt and soft shinobi pants behind) as he entered.
The fire crackled softly in the hearth and reflected on weary dark eyes that seemed to brighten at the sight of her.
âHyuuga,â he greeted her with a slight dip of his head. Not once had he called her by name, but it didnât bother her. After all, in arranged marriage like theirs, it was typical.
The forceful fluttering of her heart almost made her stutter but she composed herself before it could happen. It wouldn't do to show her burgeoning feelings for the dark-haired man so blatantly.
She smiled tentatively, âUchiha-san.â She stood, taking his coat from him and folding it neatly over her arm. âHow was your day?â
He nodded in thanks and squared his shoulders. The several pops emitted made her look at him with wide-eyed alarm. He chuckled quietly at her shock. âIt was...long. I'm afraid I'm in dire need of a bath.â
âI can draw it for you,â she immediately offered. Having stayed home while he was out on mission made her eager to help him relieve stress.
â...If itâs not too much bother,â he gracefully accepted, a hand rubbing the back of his neck.
She shook her head lightly and headed for the stairs. âNot at all. Iâll be right back.â
When she returned moments later, he was sitting on her unofficial side of the couch, head tilted to the right in concentration as he studied--
The sound that exited her mouth was positively squeaky.
Sasuke glanced at her. âOh, youâre back.â And proceeded to finger the unfinished navy weaved piece in his hands.
The piece she'd hidden from him as he arrived.
Hinata was horrified.
Her husband had found her knitting basket and was curiously inspecting a second piece-- a finished white, red, and royal blue scarf sheâd crocheted for him.
Setting both the scarf and unfinished sweater on the low table, he turned to her. âWhatâs this?â
Licking dry lips, she struggled to speak.
The quick evolution of strangers to husband and wife had left many bases unpolished when it came to the art of interpersonal relations and it showed.
âI-I, itâs a, um, a scarf. And, and a jumper,â she finally stammered, cheeks flushed with mortification. âAh, they arenât exactly done,â she added in a panicky rush he almost didnât catch.
While the finished piece was one of her best works, the sweater itself left much to be desired. It was her second attempt, the first having resulted in such a lumpy monstrosity sheâd shoved it under the bed never to see the light of day again.
Eyes locked on the stitched Uchiha fan that adorned the incomplete long sleeve of the jumper, he asked, âAre they...for me?â
Biting the inside of her cheek, she nodded.
When he looked at her next, the genuine confusion in them was almost adorable to behold. âWhy?â
She wrung her hands, the epitome of uncertainty in the flesh. âT-The weatherâs growing cold and your missions have been outdoors lately. I, um, thought I could make you these,â she motioned to the articles, âas a b-birthday gift.â
He blinked. âMy birthday was in July,â he informed her after a short pause, an even more puzzled look coloring his features.
âLate birthday,â she belatedly amended and swallowed thickly. âYou turned twenty-three a week after our marriage. Iâm sorry I didnât know.â
âHow could you have?â he replied, not unkindly. âI never told you.â
â...Sakura-san knew.â A sly comment and snide remark from the medic-nin in love with her husband had emphasized how little Hinata knew of the man sheâd married.
He scoffed but didnât appear surprised, only somewhat annoyed, âYes, because she saw my hospital records.â
Hinata was silent. Being glaringly reminded that he'd married her due to an old contract and not by merit had hurt more than Hinata was willing to demonstrate.
âThis one looks done,â he unexpectedly pronounced, picking the scarf from the table as he got to his feet.
âIt is,â she confirmed softly.
He padded on until only a small distance separated them. âMay I wear it tomorrow? Thereâs a cold front coming.â
She blinked rapidly. âO-Of course!â It was his to do as he wished, after all.
Wrapping it around his neck as to try it on, he nodded, pleased, and looked at her seriously. âItâs soft.â
This caused a tender smile to lift the corner of her lips.
âAnd warm.â
Something equally warm fluttered in her insides at the utterly male rumble of his voice.
Never taking his eyes off hers, he leaned forward until their foreheads pressed together.
She gasped softly at the intimate gesture.
âThank you,â he murmured.
Her lips parted and his gaze flickered down for a moment.
A lone, long finger reached to trace her bottom lip and she froze, afraid to move and break the spell theyâd fallen under.
With an indescribable last lingering look, he stepped back and went up the stairs, his scarf unremoved.
Alone once more, she allowed her trembling knees to finally succumb to her weight and slid slowly to the wooden floor, her heart in her throat.
4. Endless Golden Leaves (Infinitas hojas doradas)
She dies when the last leaf of the autumn trees drops, giving way to the impending winter cold.
Her fever hasnât broken in the last three days, and when the Master of Decay comes, she almost thinks sheâs dreaming. Her vision has come in and out of focus and as she stares at him, dark spots that canât be a good sign swarm her eyes.
Some tendrils of wonder must have made it upon her face because he speaks in that quiet baritone of his. âI told you Iâd come when you died, didnât I?â
If she was well and her head didnât hurt as much, sheâd have laughed at the near insulted expression that marks his mouth.
âI...didnât think Iâd die so suddenly,â she manages to croak, her throat parched.
âHuman bodies have never been the sturdiest,â he murmurs, hands busy as he pours a glass of water. âThey are prone to sickness and succumb quickly.â Heâd know. Heâd seen it happen over and over in the vicious cycle that is Existence.
With his help, she sits up slowly, her muscles quivering with effort. His eyes that miss little next to nothing notice immediately.
With a sigh, he removes the pillows that rest against the headboard and settles behind her, his dark robes rippling like smoke.
âHere,â he brings the glass to her lips and she sips gratefully. âEasy, now. Youâll spill it or choke. Neither of which will be a pleasant experience for either of us.â
When her mouth is sufficiently hydrated, she chuckles-- only to promptly splutter.
He scoffs, but it holds no scorn. Placing the glass down, his arms deliberately wrap around her waist and she presses her back against his front, sighing with contentment.
He buries his nose in her hair, and despite the cold sweat present, he can smell the essence of her and something else. Something that smells of rotting foliage. Something that smells of death.
The arms around her tighten.
âHey,â she says softly. âWill you take me outside?â
â...Youâre sick.â Far too sick to venture outside in the chill of late December.
âI want to see the leaves. Theyâre pretty, in this time of the year.â
âYouâre running a fever, you insane woman. Have you not heard of the concept of self-preservation?â
Her lips twitch at the frustration that seeps into his tone. âWhether I stay in or go, my condition is unlikely to improve in any case.â
âYouâll catch your demise even sooner,â he grumbles.
âIâm nearly there,â is her sincere reply. âIf I get to see the golden leaves for the last time and my life ends at that moment, at least Iâll be able to say I chose to die among them, donât you think?â
His silence is deafening, and just when she thinks her request will go unheeded, he growls deeply and gathers her heavy duvet around her.
She yelps in surprise but this doesnât deter him. âVery well,â he secures her far too firmly, and with a swirl of dark robes, they disappear from her room.
They would have landed with a mighty crash had the heap of dry leaves not cushioned their arrival.
Yet, the air is momentarily knocked from her lungs. She moans in discomfort. âYour bedside manner is truly awful,â she informs him breathlessly.
âBut you knew that,â he retorts as he adjusts her weight on him.
She did.
Laying among the fallen leaves of gold, red, and brown, she sinks into his embrace, the thick duvet a perfect barrier between the kiss of the ice-cold wind and her flushed skin.
From her position, she can see that most trees are utterly bare, skeletal branches dark and grim as they groan under their own weight.
âWinter is coming.â
He nods. âYes.â
âYour season is coming to a close,â she whispers and watches one leaf after another make their inevitable descend to the decaying forest floor with a deep sense of melancholy.
âThese are my last days here,â he agrees.
And when those days end, youâll be coming with me.
Although the words go unsaid, she can sense the truth in them. Reality had always been unkind, but this truth is reassuring. This wasn't the end, not really, and she's thankful.
âYouâll be back next Fall, wonât you?â
âNot like this.â Heâd used a human body to roam her world and be at her side, after all. Once she was no longer in this realm...well. This human form would no longer serve a purpose.
As the day comes closer to dusk, her body grows weaker and their already quiet conversations become almost silent. Her fever never breaks and with glazed eyes and red-apple cheeks, she resembles the leaves sheâd come to see; brittle but full of colors and light.
âItâs time,â he says eventually, his immortal heart heavy with a loss he canât explain. After all, he knows this isnât the end of her. This isnât the end of them. Heâs taking her to the next adventure, so why does he feel pain blossom in his chest? He canât understand it.
Itâs with deep disconcert that he realizes that although heâd anticipated the end of her human life, a part of him wishes sheâd grown older like so many other humans are wont to do. Her existence in this plane has been too short. She hadnât experience enough of the world.
His fingers caress her cheek, and she turns her head to look at him with a wan smile.
âIâll see you in the Beyond?â
He nods, his throat clogged with thousands of things he suddenly wishes heâd told her before.
Turning her body to face his, he cups her pale face with both hands and touches her lips to his.
She returns his kiss with a gentle pressure of her own and he experiences a dizziness heâs never felt before.
She sighs and her lips are so soft and so sweet and so warm he wishes to devour them whole.
âSleep,â he says against her mouth and pecks it repeatedly as if he canât help himself. âSleep and when you wake up, Iâll be there.â
She opens her eyes and although Life is leaving her body, they glisten with emotion.
âWait for me,â are the last words she says to him before her soul departs.
2. The Lovely Dead Things (Las hermosas cosas muertas)
The Master of Decay is beautiful. She has thought as much from the first time sheâd seen him approach, dark and tall and pale and intimidating. The woodlands from which he derives every fall had seemed bright and sunny in comparison.
âYou are dying,â he says as the sun sinks in the sky, voice young and grave as endless dark eyes observed her keenly.
She blinks and then nods. He had said that in their first meeting years ago and sheâs no longer surprised or insulted as she once was.
âIsnât that the way of things?â she whispers now.
The creature that wraps darkness around him with ease smiles humorlessly. âIt is. Youâve accepted it?â
She has, though it was difficult. âWill you be there, when I die?â
âI am the Master of Decay, am I not? I rule the realm of death,â says the man that still wears the crown made of small maple leaves she had bestowed upon him as a child. Every year since he has worn it, the gold and bright orange a sharp contrast against the ebony of his hair.
âWill it hurt?â
âDoes it hurt to sleep?â he asks in return.
She breathes deeply, the smell of dead leaves and crisp apples abundant. Itâs the smell of him and itâs lovely. âNo, unless a nightmare befalls.â
His eyes soften. âThere are no nightmares, in the beyond.â
She smiles. âAside from you?â she teases and he laughs. Her heart stutters at the unusual sound. Itâs not often that she gets to hear it and it makes her skin tingle in pleasure when it happens
âAside from me,â he agrees lightly and reaches for her hand. She holds on tightly. âThink youâll be up for it?â
Itâs her turn to laugh and she does it heartedly. âI think Iâll manage.â
The scent of fall permeated the air; spicy and sweet. He breathed slowly but deeply, careful not to rouse the woman that slept on the sofa with her head on his lap. It smelled of sugared pumpkin with a soft touch of cinnamon and reminded him of his motherâs baking. Idly combing her long hair, he sank further into his seat. Only the flickering wick of the scented candle on the coffee table bore witness as he succumbed to the quiet evening of October and slept.

Only the SHMonth Team MODing the previously mentioned social media pages can do so. Good evening! As previously mentioned, the SHMonth Team is planning a few events. Sadly, we wonât hold a Fall Event this year as our schedules are a bit tight.
Nonetheless, we will announce a List of Fall Prompts on Discord, Tumblr, and Twitter to inspire our SasuHina Autumn Lovers!
The List will be presented differently from the norm this time.
One prompt per day will be introduced in a single post from now on until they are exhausted.
We hope you enjoy them as much as weâve enjoyed creating them! Any Winter Events will be announced as soon as they are settled.
