erik laughed, shaking his head. “oh no, pure intentions here, at least for now.” he winked, jokes clear in his delivery. “besides, braids are the way to go at a party, always a look.” he finished his drink quickly, starting over with making it again. “my game is strong when i turn it on, and you know it. i’m waiting to crank it out.” he pointed his finished drink to her.

"your game ain’t strong, you go for easy targets.” vanya said in a teasing tone, finishing her drink almost simultaneously before deciding to pick up a beer next. nothing better than mixing and matching booze. “plus, braids are whatever, too sloppy for a party, i think.”

“a kiss is all i’ve ever dreamed about from you,” he replied just as teasingly, shaking his head at her. god, how had he gone so long without seeing her? “it’s not my fault the last time i made one was with you!”

as a brow perked up, and smirk got tighter, vanya made sure to look at nick in the eye before saying "this is the day all your dreams come true,” walking closer to him with a devilish grin masking her little plan. “doesn’t excuse it either.”

“i’ll take a water,” janelle called out from a few seats down the bar, seeming her agreement could at least help the girl out. “hydrate or die-drate, am i right?” she gave a chuckle at her own joke, before a small cough, as if to cover up her own amusement at the lame joke.

“see, dude. the prettiest lady in the bar wants water, and you should too.” van said, throwing that half-assed compliment to continue her conversation elsewhere. “you’re sooo right.” she exclaimed while filling up two tall glasses of water, one hanging it back to the drunk guy and the other to the girl, to whom she whispered “do you really want this? it’s cool if you don’t tho.”

erik couldn’t really remember who’s house he was at, and how exactly he ended up at this party. he wasn’t that drunk, could still walk in a straight line and everything. it was just these things all seemed to blur together, which if he thought about it anymore would have made him feel sad, so he quickly distracted himself by walking up to his long time, friend(?) and common target of his antics, vanya. his swagger was often fawned over by most girls, but never van, which always lead to fun interactions. as he poured himself a drink, he looked over at her, his eyes soft and genuin, something not many saw. “van, you’re hairs down, you should really put that back if you actually wanna have fun here.” he offered, finishing making his drink, and starting one for her. @shweetzy

“you better not be implying what i think you’re going for, hakkon.” van answered with her red cup right before her lips, hiding a grin she acquired as soon as she heard the guy speak. that was most of the time the effect alcohol took on her, whether she was wasted or not, everything seemed funnier, and poking people’s buttons when caring all that little about stuff was even more enjoyable as well, so the simple idea of teasing an acquaintance and recurrent dream intruder, erik, while a little more than tipsy wasn’t out of the question. “cause you’re never gonna get to see my hair up with that shitty game.”

“oh come on! i took care of it this long!” nick wasn’t going to let go until she did, not when it was a long time coming and when did he ever really let himself be drawn into a hug by anyone? “and how am i meant to do that?”

“nope!” she kept on refusing, eventually letting go of him slightly but keeping a hand on his shoulder, making sure he would be looking at her in the eye as she spoke. “channel your inner baby nick. i’m sure he’s still there dying to build a fort just for us to play like we used to.”

“i don’t know.. i’ve had it so long now.. it’s basically mine.” nick spoke, a grin on his face before suddenly his arms were full of the smaller girl. her held her close to him then, arms banded around her. “top three? what do i have to do to be back to number one?”

“no way, numbskull!” she squealed out, refusing to let go of nick for the time being. that hug just felt long overdue, and why let such moment end prematurely? “hmm.. good question,” she mused. “probably prove that you’re as devoted to me as when we were kids.”

despite not being around her or seeing her for many years, vanya had always been there, in his mind. such a small girl had made a huge impact on him when they were so young that he simply couldn’t forget her. not that he truly wanted too. he chuckled at her excitement. “of course i did, i know you loved it.”

“and, that means i get to have it back, right?” she said half jokingly, though screwing all that up the minute she decided to practically jump and wrap her arms around nick into a hug. how else could she have expressed how grateful and happy she was? “you’re amazing. instantly back to top three best friends, aight.”

“nothing is going to tear the two of us apart again van,” it was a big promise but one he intended to keep. he was not planning on losing her a second time, even if the first had been out of his control. he chuckled and moved towards his desk where he pulled the toy car from and held it out in his hand.

hopefully nick knew how much those words could mean to someone like van, who through most of her life, she saw people come and go, turn their back on her, and only very few sticked through, so nick being one of the later certainly warmed her heart towards him a little –– too much. “oh my god!” she squealed upon holding it, practically bouncing of excitement. “dude, i really can’t believe you kept this.”

his eyes dropped down to their hands and she gripped onto them, like it was something unexpected, which it was but not a bad thing all in all. “come on, have some faith in me here van. think i’m just gonna let you go?”

“i just needed to make sure.” she said, almost like before. trial and error were her think as nothing really ever seemed to work out the first time she did it anyways. “so anyways..” she said with her hand letting go of nick’s, it finding a better spot at her back pocket. “where’s that car you told me about?”

nick ran a hand through his hair, feeling a sense of.. unease? jealousy? no he wouldn’t be jealous. he wasn’t romantically interested in vanya, it was just that his brother had dated her and he hadn’t known she’d been so close this whole time. that was surely it. his jaw clenched though, “yeah.. weird.”

it was practically impossible for her not to notice the shift of moods between nick and her all of a sudden, though, almost instinctively, as if something in her simply knew best for both, had the girl reach out and grab the guy’s hand for a few short seconds. “but it’s all cool between us, right? i don’t want you out of my life again... ever again.”

“sure, sure.” nick shrugged his shoulders at that, they certainly had different views, in that he dated less and slept around more. mostly because he didn’t often get involved with his own feelings. “yeah i gue– wait, you what?” the idea that obviously vanya had been around this whole time was assumed but to have been so close, to have been dating his own brother? that was ridiculous.

“i dated rob hood... your brother?? for like 5 months?? dude that’s so crazy. are you sure you weren’t just avoiding me all this time? –– i mean, it’s not like i expected to be shown off but it’s just so weird.” she said, not helping with how she stared at nick entirely in disbelief and shock. life just had to pull such dick move on them, didn’t it?

“don’t need to date any guys to be able t know that that is true,” he shrugged his shoulders. he usually found those type of people boring in general, but also somewhat easy to mess with if he wanted to. his gaze followed hers and his brows furrowed a little, “yeah.. my brother. he was there when they took me in.”

“leave my experiments be, nick. i like to make sure, okay?” she said with a somehow serious tone, only breaking such demeanor as she snorted with the given impression that rob and nick were related... although, it wasn’t that much of an impression but rather a fact she had to question twice just to make sure. “are you serious? –– so i dated your brother for like half a year and we never crossed paths once? what the hell.”

“is that your type then?” he asked, she said they were lame but apparently she had dated a few like it. not that it mattered, it wasn’t like he was asking for his own personal reference. “i’ll tell you whatever you want to know van, just gotta ask. just because i don’t currently have a girlfriend doesn’t mean i’m lonely.”

“can’t say i have one, but trial and error has shown this town is plagued by that type of guys.” she answered, failing to admit that she did find comfort in stability, or at least people that could possibly give that away. that was another conversation for a much trusting van. “okay, sure. lets start there then,” she exclaimed, taking a special interest on a picture she found while doing her inspection. “these guys keep you company? i didn’t know you knew rob.”

“oh, like you know?” he teased, something easy and natural and why stop who they both were when they were comfortable with each other? no, it was rare for him to be like this with anyone so he was taking full advantage of it. “you know i have plenty of names to use against you right?” he shook his head, “sad?”

“sure i do,” she said giggling. “you should see some guys i’ve dated. mr. perfect wannabe’s. soooo lame.” vanya admitted, taking herself more into his place to explore it somewhat more “well i dunno. you haven’t told me much about what’s been going on in your life all these years, and i kinda had an idea in my head but you being all lonely doesn’t really fit there.”

“why would i change when i’m perfect as i am, van?” he asked, though his tone didn’t actually give away whether or not he was joking with that comment or not. the grin on his face certainly didn’t hint towards anything either. “hey! god damn it, what have i told you about calling me nicholas, vanny?” he smirked then, teasing with the old nickname that hadn’t lasted long. “it’s jsut me,” he hadn’t had many relationships in his life because he rarely ever let anyone get that close.

“probably cause perfect can get pretty boring, ya’ know?” her words meaning to be as snarky as the smirk she carried on her face, not letting the banter between them rest for one second. and as it should be, it wouldn’t take long for her to be laughing loudly at how a simple name could get nick to the same old teasing. “i’m sorry dude, but the more you dislike it, the mooore i wanna say it.” she chuckled, sticking her tongue out at him however, after using vanny of all names. “oh... that’s sad.”
