The name Florence probably came to be from someone who he had a deep trust with gave him that name. He likes to be called that instead of 12A, but his old partner and healer likes to tease him by calling him 12A still. Nier Automata Au! Florence!

He’s 12A, aka an attacker unit. He used to get deployed to earth frequently enough that he started wearing things he found during his missions. Until the attacker unit got discontinued in any case.

After getting discontinued, it was either be reassigned to a scanner type or to be terminated. He chose instead to desert the YohRa and now is a scavenger and a travelling shop on earth. With the help of a fellow deserter and old teammate, he hacked a pod for himself to keep in contact with them.
