Silently, ever judging black sclera wanders to the overbearingly tall figure skulking through their halls. The younger boy seemingly in a daze as he kept his eyes trained to the ceiling above him.
Nobuyoshi knew he wasn’t watching for Mimi. The motions not at all akin to those of his anxiety and worry of having a cat bombard him before running off to be the prissy little shit she always was. No, this was different. Movements stiffer, tired, even, as if Nariaki was hardly keeping himself standing. Feet dragging along the flooring only ever so slightly as he moved forward.
Most would not notice these little things, chalking it up to simply exhaustion. But Nobu? He knew something was far more off, never once seeing his younger brother in such a state before in all the years he’d been living in the Nagata household.
Nari was a loud, over energetic boy. Even if he had gotten little to no sleep, it would never show, masking any form of sleepiness in the sheer optimism he held.
Yet now he actually did look tired. From what little he could see of the youngers face, it was heavy, pale, and evident bags weighting down his usually sparkling eyes.
A quick jolt brought Nari out of his daze, head snapping to look at Nobu. It took him a second to reply, something unusual in their home environment.
“ Huh? Oh, hey, Nii-san. Sorry, I’m kinda tired. “
“ ‘s fine. Why don’cha cop a squat an not be wanderin’ like a fuckin’ spirit? “
The calm conversation continued, Nari bringing himself to the couch Nobuyoshi seemed to be situated upon at all times of the day when he wasn’t working. Nari took so many seconds between each reply, words and sentences trailing off more and more as they went along. Until, finally, Nari closed his eyes, falling asleep as fast as he always did.
Observations aside, Nobuyoshi couldn’t help the sinking feeling in his gut at seeing Nari like this. He brushed the feeling aside, however, ignoring it as if it were completely irrelevant.
With nary a sound, he dumped a blanket he’d been sitting on over Nari, worry subsiding for the moment. He was probably just getting sentimental, is all, over seeing Nari coming into his own as a Boss. Right? Right. That had to be it.
