#RAKChallenge, Day- 31 I save some money in this coin box to give it to some homeless person at the end of the year. I saw a senior citizen begging on the streets for a couple of times and thought of giving the money to her this year. But I don’t know about her whereabouts. However, I carried this coin box hoping to meet her. And suddenly she showed up out of nowhere😊. Venkatamma has a son but he doesn’t take care of her so she ended up begging on the streets. After greeting her, I requested her to sit and empty this bottle. When she saw money in the wooden bottle, she was confused, surprised. Once she’s done emptying, she placed it on her forehead for a while like honoring it or something 😊 Well, that’s all for this year’s #RAKChallenge guys. This is just to challenge myself and to demonstrate how simple and easy to do some little things for others around us within out busy schedules and less money (or no money). The biggest challenge I face during this challenge is to capture those moments and writing about it. Sometimes it’s difficult to click pictures and then put those moments in words. I often feel I could have said it better or the picture could have been better because it’s very difficult to convey these wonderful experiences in pictures and words. One must experience it to know how wonderful it feels😊 Thank you everyone for sending your love through messages and writing kind words after reading all these stories. #RAKChallenge, Day- 30 Migrant workers: They are the ones who suffered a lot and suffering still in this pandemic. Every time, I hear the word “Migrant Workers”, a picture of people walking in the bright sun, carrying their children and luggage on their shoulders flashes in front of my eyes and makes me feel sad. I always want to do something for them directly. So, these guys work for sand transportation and building construction works. Every morning loads of sand they bring in lorries go their works it seems. Spoke to some of them about how they are doing, a little bit about their family members etc. and invited them for some early morning tea. Requested them to bring all their friends to this nearby tea stall to have some chai. Requested the tea stall guy give them as many teas as they can have and let me know the amount once they are all done. #RAKChallenge, Day- 29 Visiting these adorable senior citizens is one of the most important things in my life. Because their stories and life experiences inspire me and their wisdom enlightens me. Got a few colorful containers, some packed snacks, a Housie and a Ludo/ snake n ladder board games for them. The moment they saw me, they all remembered me and started greeting me except that beautiful girl in the first picture. She is Laxmi and she forgot me. She said I am not able to remember you my child but there is this sweet girl I know is exactly like you. We had so much fun talking and she gave me this hand towel too. And it was me who gave her that hand towel last year and she was telling me about me. I can’t explain how wonderful I felt at that moment😊 Spent a lot of time with these wonderful humans talking, laughing, teaching them how to play Ludo etc. (my nephew helped me in teaching them Ludo) and it turned out to be a fulfilled evening When I said bye, see you soon, they said “your every visit fills us with energy and make us to be hopeful”. #RAKChallenge, Day- 28 Every year in December, we invite all the people who help us like Garbage Collectors, house helps, watchman, people who iron our cloths etc., to thank them and honor them with new cloths and some money. I could invite everyone but the garbage collectors because they were banned to enter the houses due to pandemic. So, I decided to go visit their house this time. When they saw me Infront of their house (with a new saree and bangles for her and a towel and money for him) they were almost speechless😊. #RAKChallenge, Day- 27 My year will be incomplete if I do not meet these lovely boys who live in a nearby home. They are intelligent, kind and happy souls. There were so many restrictions to meet them due to pandemic. To gift them something, this time I bought Document Files, stationary kits, biscuit packets, gems and some namkeen packets. Picked one from each and made it like a personalized kit for each one of them. #RAKChallenge, Day- 26 Sanitation workers: The most important people in our lives. A few of them came to sanitize our building. Spoke to them for a while about how they are doing, managing their duties in this pandemic. They are so nice and humble. Thanked all of them for keeping us safe risking their lives. Wished them and their families well. When I tried to give them some money as a token of appreciation, they refused. #RAKChallenge, Day- 25 I love children. Since I couldn’t invite them all home due to pandemic, I thought of taking Christmas to their homes. Selected an area where the number of huts is more. Bought Christmas tree, things to decorate the tree, packed snacks like biscuit packets, gems etc. Invited all the children around for Christmas celebration. The children were very excited to decorate their very first Christmas tree. Some got a pot to put the tree in, some got the soil to hold the tree and some got the actual flowers too. After everyone decorated the tree, they had some snacks and some fun too. #RAKChallenge, Day- 24 Miss Mary, a sweet 76 years young lady lives by herself. She’s a retired teacher and does her household chores, cooking etc., all by herself. When I met her a couple weeks back, I felt wow of her courage and promised to meet her again. So, this time, I prepared chicken curry (tenderly cooked with less spice, salt etc.) and plain rice, so that she can enjoy her meal that will get digested easily. I also bought a small Christmas tree just to bring the joy of this season. She was so surprised and couldn’t stop smiling when she saw me again. She said she was thinking about me and in fact waiting for me too😊. I spent a lot of time trying to know her story, talking about her life, her family, her challenges to live alone as a woman, her service as a teacher and so many other things. Her mother got paralyzed for a very long time. Since there was no one to take care of her mother, she chooses to keep her mother alive as long as she can. And hence she couldn’t get married. I tried to give as many compliments as I can to appreciate her life to live alone with dignity and grace. #RAKChallenge, Day- 23 Try to declutter things every year in the month of December. This time we decided to take out sarees too in cloths section along with the rest. So, picked up as many sarees as we can that we wore just once or twice. Got them washes and ironed to give away to women who live in nearby huts. It was very difficult to catch them as they head out for their labour works in the morning by 6 and comeback home late. Had to cater a couple of days with a bag full of sarees (and some snacks too just in case I get to see kids😊) to meet all of them early in the morning and in the late night to complete this task. #RAKChallenge, Day- 22 Because protein is important, bought a tray full of eggs to give them to a small family who may not be able to afford. Met Gauri and her little boys in their small hut. She and her children are so sweet and humble. After interacting with her for a while, handed over the tray of eggs. #RAKChallenge, Day-21 Sushant was roaming around a stall where we were buying things for Christmas decoration. This super active boy’s eyes were constantly focusing on stars over there. He was picking it up and putting it back as he doesn’t have money to buy. When I asked do you want me to buy this star, he said yes. I asked why only a star, I’ll buy something else? He said no, I want only star because I like it so much. What do you do with the star even if I buy you one, was my another question. He said he’ll hold it like that and play😊. Bought him the star and asked, now what do you tell your Mom? He was mumbling as he was not sure about his answer. Then I told him, you are a sweet, curious little boy, like a star and you will shine bright like one in future. I bought you this because I like you so much. So, go tell your mom accordingly. #RAKChallenge, Day-19 Sneha, our house help Mani’s only daughter. Mani and her husband put Sneha in a great school (though they can’t afford) only to give her a better life. When Mani asked me to give a used handbag as her daughter loves it, I told her bring along Sneha. Got a new bag and filled it with hairclips, hairbands, nail polish, bracelets, handkerchiefs, nail cutter, comb, mehndi cone, some snacks etcetera. Sneha and I spoke over some morning snacks and juice, until her mother finishes her work. Tried to know Sneha, her education, her day today life, her ambitions etc., shared about me, gave her some simple tips and hacks to organize her time and everything else before I gave her this bag. The moment she takes this bag, her eyes sparkled and she couldn’t stop smiling.
