Janelle Monáe as Cassandra Brand/Helen Brand in GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY (2022) dir. Rian Johnson
Everyone’s talking about Daniel Craig (and don’t mishear me, I think he’s great. Loving it.) But I do want to absolutely scream to the rooftops about how well she managed her performance. She did a tough thing playing this character and she honestly managed it to a T. She switched one character on and off again so well, without missing a beat or making either ‘version’ feel disconnected from the other.
That middle point where past and present were mixing again and again would have been tough to pull off but between her acting and likely good direction and editing they landed it perfectly.
I hope we see more of Janelle Monáe going forward. Especially if she keeps picking projects like this.
