The ginger had been running the same route for a few weeks, and, well, thanks to Arthur, the '69 Charger, which was quite the sight now, was running much better. Eventually, Jackson would be coming up to Arthur's front door, the same Surf's Up Surprise pizza held in his hand. Unlike their first meeting, the weather was actually rather calm. Yes, it was a bit on the cold side, but, at least it wasn't raining. A light wind blew, blowing fall leaves about. The seasons were changing, as always.
Arthur still took a few minutes (and a few moments more to shush Mystery) before he opened the door, but now that he had almost a routine set for when the new pizza boy came around, he had his money in hand already, a small book tucked beneath his arm. âHey man.â He greeted when the door was open, already holding out the cash for his pizza, plus tip. âThanks for getting here so quickly. I lost track of time, but man am I starving.â
He closed his eyes, taking the hint and simply letting his head hang for a minute. âI think the stress of this week is just⊠catching up to me⊠Itâs probably nothingâŠâ He took a few deep breathes. ââŠFelt⊠so real.â He looked back to the car, and to Kodak, who seemed a bit⊠occupied by something. ââŠHe looked like a huge kitsune in the dream⊠just⊠piercing yellow eyes staring down at meâŠâ He eventually managed to catch himself. âProbably just stress and all thatâŠâ
He cleared his throat, opening his eyes quietly afterwards. âSorry about that⊠I usually donât let myself freak out that muchâŠâ
Arthur frowned a little. âLook man, if the dog is freaking you out so muchâŠthere might be something to it. You never know. You seem like youâre at the end of your rope, so it could be stress, but you never know. Dismissing it is probably not a great idea. You might end up feeling worse.â He had experience with that.
âButâŠâ Arthur tilted his head at the pizza boy. âI have to know. If your dog- Kodak- is making you feel insane and stressedâŠwhy are you still keeping it? Why not just rehome it? I mean, you said it was a stray you picked up. And it doesnât seem to be doing you any favors when it comes to your health. So why are you keeping it when itâs hurting you more than helping?â
He rubbed the back of his head. âItâs only happened once, and itâs not the dog stressing me out. Just a dream. All it is, ya know? Besides.. Kodakâs been with me through... a lot, now. A lotâs happened in the past few weeks, and, Iâd rather not bore you with the whens and the hows.â He looked to the car for a moment.
âIâll be honest, though. I have nobody who will even take care of him for me. Iâd rather not put him in the pound, because... he wouldnât be adopted.â He then chuckled a bit. â...Besides, when a dog saves your ass from a coyote... you tend to enjoy his company..â
