Honestly, I think the whole “don’t pay the writers” thing boils down to the notion that everybody thinks they can write. It’s the old saw about the novelist at a cocktail party having to hear someone say, for the millionth time, “I’d love to write a book someday.”

Someone–Stephen King? Pretty sure I saw this in a Stephen King foreword–once said they’d like to say to a brain surgeon, “Boy, I’d love to do brain surgery someday.”

We treat “the ability to put words into a sentence” like it’s just the same as “the ability to form a coherent narrative that engenders a variety of emotions within the reader and puts them in a scene and shows them what they didn’t see before”.

And that’s like me drawing a stick figure and saying I’m an artist.

Writers are constantly devalued because everyone thinks they have a book in them and don’t realize the level of skill and commitment it takes to finish even a short story, much less a whole book. 

This goes well beyond fandom, but man, I would’ve hoped fandom would know better.

got a fine tip nail art brush a few days ago and i finally used it to paint sigils on my nails

left for defense, right (and dominant) for offense, classifying defense as passive magic (works like a shield) and offense as active magic (works like a weapon)

on both hands, the middle three bear the brunt of the work and a tied theme, while the pinkies and thumbs have their own and secondary theme. on the left, the middle three work outward and the outer two work inward; on the right, the middle three work as power bases and the outer two work as aggressive tactics

Here’s a tip from someone who does this and doesn’t have great control with a brush:

Get a waterproof fine-tip pen like a micron.

Draw your sigils REALLY small on pieces of tissue paper. 

Lay down a clear basecoat on your nails. 

Press the tissue into the basecoat, let dry. 

Add a clear topcoat.

How to Practice Galdr Magic

Galdr doesn’t have to have words to be powerful. Sometimes when you sing and make up your own musical sound, it can affect things if you put intention behind it. Galdr; when spoken usually revolves around the runes, chanting them over and over with intention. It’s the vibration of the voice along with your intentions that make the sound come to life. Runes can help direct this, but galdr can be performed without runes or any words. Sometimes I like to just sing a song that I made up myself. It would be just a musical tune that was of my own creation. You don’t need tools to do this, all you need is an understanding of magic and how to direct your thoughts, emotions, and intentions into words, breathing, and or singing. This is when galdr can be affective. A simple word can be turned into a word of power when used over and over again, the same goes for a musical tune. Either way, galdr is magic of the voice and breath. Learning breathing rhythms can also be beneficial to this form of magic as well.

You can most likely get jars for way cheaper online or at the dollar store closest to you. Seriously, almost all of these (even the tiny ones) were more than a dollar.

On Fae and Names

Quick PSA to any witches working with Fae: Do not give them your name under any typical circumstances. Give a nickname, or no name at all. BUT! If you give a nickname, don’t say: “My name is -insert nickname-.” Because that is a lie, and a fae will twist that around their little finger and use it to manipulate the shit outta you anyways. 

INSTEAD, say: “You may call me -insert nickname-.” This lets them know that this name probably doesn’t have power over you and that you are both cautious and intelligent.
