The pink blob beside Stanley stirred in its sleep. Every so often, one of its ears would twitch, evoking the image of a happily dozing dog.
It’s not a dog, Stanley thought. It’s probably not even real. Since he had first found himself wandering through a tropical jungle, he had assumed he was hallucinating. The surroundings were too vivid to be the product of a dream, and his senses seemed intact. He could feel the slight give of leaves and dirt underneath him. The sweat that covered his forehead was a familiar, sticky film. And the sounds that reached his ears—chitters and calls that would have spooked any explorer in the Amazon—were clear and undeniable.
He might have chalked all of this up to some sort of mental episode. Perhaps the stress of college had eaten away at him so badly that it forced him into autopilot, and he had blacked out while his subconscious planned a mandatory vacation. Still, the idea of buying a plane ticket and getting lost in the rainforest, all while in a weird fugue state, struck him as laughable.
Kidnapping had crossed his mind next, but there was no one in sight to order a ransom.
The last thing he remembered was the sickly glow of his computer screen. As he had started to doze off, the light had reached outwards, filling his vision with white static. That must have been the turning point, when whatever drugs he had accidentally taken had kicked in, hard.
Then, he was stumbling over plants that looked prehistoric. Fear had coiled like a trapped snake in his stomach, and he had moved at a panicked run, pushing aside palm fronds and trying not to dwell on the fact that the heat was not the fuzzy, artificial warmth of sleep. Eventually he exhausted his legs and had to collapse against a tree. His delirious brain told him that if he took a rest, he was bound to wake up back in his dorm room, where the final page of his humanities paper would be a welcome chore.
When he awoke a second time, he was still in the jungle. And now, there was a pink, mutated thing snuggled against him.
He had stared at it for several minutes and attempted to regulate his breathing, lest he wake it up. It was small, but its ovoid body was mostly mouth, and teeth peeked out over its lips in several places. He tried to fathom how it could get around without legs.
That became a less pressing question, however, when it opened its eyes and said, “Good morning!”
Stanley yelped, flew to his feet, and flattened himself against the tree. He wondered how long it would take for him to actually suffer a heart attack.
It had been an hour or two since Zachary's arrival in the Digital World. Since then, he had been wandering the jungle with Gummymon tucked safely in his arms. For such a little guy, he sure was talkative - quite the opposite of his human companion, who could only nod or give the occasional "mm" in between his sentences. Luckily for him, Gummymon was also eager to answer any question he had about this strange place he's suddenly found himself in.
"... If I'm right, you've got a device called a Digivice somewhere on you," Gummymon ranted on cheerfully. "With that thing, I can Digivolve into something much cooler! Later on, I'll show you, I promise! I think I need a bit of rest before that happens, though... I'm still so tired from walking earlier. Which reminds me. Thank you for carrying me like this, Zachary!" To show his appreciation, the small green creature nuzzled his head against Zachary's arm, eliciting a small smile from the blonde.
"Ah... No problem," he muttered in reply. "Um... Where would my Digivice be exactly?" By the time he asked, Gummymon had dozed off in his arms, snoring quite loudly. Sighing softly, Zachary carefully shifted the sleeping Digimon into one arm and used his free hand to search through his pocket. Sure enough, his fingers came into contact with something that certainly hadn't been there before. Fishing it out with some difficulty, he held it before his eyes, studying it intently.
Before he could get much of an idea of what it was, a yelp in the distance caught his attention. The sound also startled Gummymon awake, who squirmed around wildly in Zachary's arms as. "H-Hey, it's alright, Gummymon," he assured him quietly. "I think that was just another person... You mentioned there are others here, right?"
"Oh, yeah! Let's go check it out, Zachary!" Gummymon insisted. Without warning, he leaped out of his arms and scurried ahead through the bushes. "Gummymon!" Zachary called, still making sure to keep his voice down. "C... Come back!"
He really didn't want to attract anything dangerous - Gummymon had been sure to warn him of the bigger, more aggressive Digimon lurking about. Even though he claimed this place was relatively safe, Zachary still wanted to be cautious.
Zachary burst through some more bushes that he'd seen Gummymon disappear into. "Gummy-"
He couldn't possibly prepare himself for what he saw next. Gummymon seemed to have found another Digimon with what appeared to be a terrified man pressed up against a tree.
"Hey, you!" Gummymon chirped to the pink creature, giving him a toothy grin. "You're a Koromon, right? Is that your partner?! I'm Gummymon, and this is Zachary!" He turned around and nodded at the blonde boy, who appeared to be frozen in place, uncertain of what to do. He hadn't expected to encounter another person so soon, especially one who appeared to be even newer than he was.
So far on my list, I have a thread with Airi, but I'm looking for more if anyone is interested. So is anyone up for roleplaying with me? Let me know if so!
Chump
"Hey! Wake up, you chump! I don't got all-"
Zachary groaned loudly in protest, waving his arms and unintentionally sending a small green-colored creature flying to the side. Gummymon tumbled ungracefully to the side, momentarily disoriented from the swat. "What's the big idea?!" he chirped heatedly, crawling his way back to the unconscious human boy in a huff. "You can't just go knocking a Digimon around like that, you know. You're lucky I'm your friend or else I'd... I'd... Are you-"
It was about that moment that the blonde abruptly sat up, gasping for air. A million and one thoughts were racing through his head. Where am I?! What happened?! He couldn't remember exactly what had occurred, but he knew well enough that he must have collapsed in middle of the street, but...
That didn't explain the strange voice he had been hearing, or had that only been a hallucination? Perhaps he'd hit his head when he fell. Or something like that. Whatever the cause, he was sure that he was going to be feeling embarrassed the second he was able to make sense of the world around him. Quickly rubbing his eyes, he slowly glanced around himself to discover that he was in a jungle of some sorts. What the heck? Last he checked, he'd been crossing the street in the middle of Seoul.
And just below him, staring up at him with an annoyed expression, was maybe the most odd looking creature he'd ever seen. "Finally," it spoke, causing Zachary to jump and scramble backwards. "Took you long enough to wake up!" His eyes widened in realization - not only was it alive and breathing, it could speak and he could understand it?! This definitely had to be a dream, albeit it was almost too strange to be.
"W-Wh...!"
Noticing Zachary's obvious disbelief, Gummymon hopped onto his lap, smiling brightly up at him. "Don't be afraid of me, Zachary! I'm your partner! I'm a Digimon, which is short for Digital Monster. My name's Gummymon- Hey, where're you going? Don't run away!" Unfortunately for Gummymon, Zachary was had already disappeared into the nearby foliage by the time he could finish the last bit of his sentence.
"Aww, I knew it... He doesn't like me..." Gummymon pouted, sighing sadly. It was only a couple of seconds later that Zach peeked his head from around a tree, watching the strange creature with both curiosity and concern. This had to be a dream of some sort, right? There was no way something like that could be real... and know his name, to top it off.
"You... said you're a... Digimon?" Zachary asked tentatively, taking a step back into the open. "Where are we, then? The last thing I remember..." Gummymon visibly lit up when he saw that Zachary had returned and bounced over toward him, leaping up into his arms and wiggling around happily. "I knew you'd come around! I- Huh? Oh, we're in the Digital World, dummy. It's home to all of the Digimon, although there are a few like you around too. I've been waiting for you for a long time! It took you long enough to get here, let alone wake up."
The beady-eyed green blob stared up at him with a toothy smile and for whatever reason, Zachary couldn't help but awkwardly smile back. "Okay... Gummymon," he said slowly, still trying to believe that this was truly happening. "Where to?"
