After having to abandon my painting for 6 weeks while I was working, I’m finally back at it.
From, Since the Catastrophe I Haven’t Been Myself, The little depressingly funny book I made after Trump was elected.

As many of you know, I like to doodle little faces here and there. Last year I had a lot of them. You may also know how disappointed I was when Trump won the US election, a very sad day for America and the world indeed. I made a little booklet using the doodles, which I then, in Photoshop, added color and some rather depressing thoughts in honor of this catastrophe. It’s called “Since the Catastrophe I Haven’t Been Myself.” I am personally not as depressed about it as I am disgusted but that is another conversion. The point is not to give up. This is for those who want to, I understand that too.
Since I finished my last large painting I’ve been making these little sketch paintings the last few days. This is a snapshot of our waitress from last week that I thought had an interesting look. Not sure she found me asking to take her picture so interesting but she was a good sport about it, we all had a laugh.
Bistro My Way, Dec 2016, Oil on Canvas, 140cm x 100cm
The past couple of weeks while I am in between large paintings I’ve been doing some random faces.
Almost finished with my new painting. I still haven’t decided on a name yet but it’s oil on canvas, 140cm x 100cm.
Thought I'd get a photo before I varnished this. It's somewhat easier to photograph when it's not so shiny but I like when the colors pop a bit and the sheen is even. Gods and Rabbits, oil on canvas 2016. 80 cm x 120 cm.
As a scenic artist, I would put paper on my work space to keep the table clean and switch out the paper every week or 2 depending on how messy it got. After a while I really hated throwing out the paper because it sometimes looked so interesting. At one point I started putting down scraps of muslin over the paper and doing little drawings in the slop paint. I kept a few of these and called them my Slop Paintings, most of them are from 1992-1994.
