everybody is saying "Mike is going to be mad that Will lied to him!" [About rhe painting] but I'd like to provide an alternative:

Mike isn't mad at Will. Mike doesn't go find him and get in an argument (not at first)

Mike goes to Will, and Mike is hurt. He tries to ask Will, but Will evades the question and is being vague, and then Mike says something and his voice cracks and tears are running down his cheeks. He asks Will "why? why would you lie to me?" in the most broken whisper Will has ever heard come out of Mike.

Something inside Will breaks, and in an equally soft, just as teary whisper, "because I was scared you'd hate me if I told you the truth."
