However was he so blessed to have a son gifted with such good luck ?? It’s not from him, it couldn’t be… perhaps Arthur’s own terrible luck was enough to cancel out with Percy’s.

 ➤     « Aw, shucks, Pop!!  I’m just doing what a good  sidekick should!! »  He grinned.  His pop suffered too  much at the hands of ill-fortune.  In all likelihood, he’d  take another tumble into something unsavory and end  up with a whole lot of bruises, but if Percy could prevent  just one mishap, it was all worth it.

 ➤     « You’re... perfectly fine though?  No bruises?   No concussion?  Sprained funny bone?  None of it?! »

  ➤     « Pop!!  Are you okay??  I grabbed your axe!!    You need to be more careful, you almost tripped right   into that horse cart... again. »

     “Percival,” Mitama replied with a groan, reaching up and rubbing at her forehead. She thought they’d been over this; no running in the castle halls, and certainly no yelling. He’d woken her from several choice naps, resulting in not-so-pleasant conversations about volume and respect. Clearly, they hadn’t had the immediate effect she’d desired.

       But sometimes, the best way to get rid of someone was to do what they wanted. “How can I assist, Percival? It must be a most important matter, for you to act so rashly.”

  ➤    « Oh, it is! » he replied instantly.  Instantly, he turned,   fiddling with the satchel on his hip.  From it, he produced   a stack of some-what crinkled pages and a couple crayons.   It was clear from the look on his face when he returned to    Mitama, that he was quite pleased with himself.

  ➤    « Okay, I think this is what I need right? »  But he was   getting ahead of himself.  « Heroes usually get epic poems   written about them, right?  It’s almost Pop’s birthday, and I   want to do something really cool for him!  Like write him an   epic poem! »

  ➤    He giggles.  « See where I’m going with this?  I want    your help to get my pop something really cool!  I thought   since you were so good at poetry, you’d have no problem   helping me become a master-poet! »

  ➤     « T-they do? »  No one told Percy HE could say it...   Could he say it...?

  ➤     « I-it’s still really bad!  Uh...  Here -- you can say   ‘ Damn! ’ or ‘ Shit! ’ instead!  Those ones are okay! »

    ➤    It was an idea that struck him urgently, and as far as     he knew, there was only one woman that knew exactly how     to help him.  He raced through the castle to find her, and     when he ran into her, he almost literally ran into her.  Luckily,     he caught himself just before impact, but nearly lost his      balance in the process.

   ➤    « MITAMA!!! »  Inside voice, Percy.  Inside voice.

   ➤    « Mitama! » he tried again, grinning eagerly up at her    « I need your help! »

    ➤    Bored...  That’s how it was in Askr, since the adults wouldn’t     let Percy fight alongside his Pop.  He’d explored as much of the     castle as he was allowed, but that admittedly wasn’t much.  Some     one even tried to keep him from picking up an axe!  But he was a     man now!  They should be letting him fight!!

    ➤     But misery loved company, and he never quite understood     that line until he saw her.  He knew she was about his age, and      he’d seen others trying to keep her from fighting, as well.  Maybe     they could complain together?  It had to be his lucky day.  It always     was.

    ➤     « ...Hey, » he began.  What could they talk about?  It seemed     like he suddenly forgot what he was there for.  « Uhm...  Your mom      is one of the heroes, right?  My pop too!  He’s the heroic-ist!  But     they still won’t let him fight alongside his sidekick!  What’s wrong      with these people, right? »

    ➤    Percy was constantly looking for a way to approach     his brother.  Since growing up in separate DeepRealms     made them unnaturally distant [ or at least, as far as Percy     saw it ].  Different interests, different memories...  How      could you approach some one you were supposed to      share so much with when you had so little in common?

   ➤    That would change today, Percy was sure of it!  He    rushed up to Shigure eagerly, eyes shining with pride.    « Shigure!  Shigure!  Look!! » 

   ➤    And he presented his brother with the half-crumpled    stack of papers in his hand.  It was sheet music -- he knew    enough about music to know that much, but his knowledge    basically began and ended there.

   ➤    « Is it good? » he asked, beaming.  He was looking    for something to bond over, or even just the knowledge that     he made Shigure happy.  « You’ll never guess where I found    it! »
