So many things to fix & mend
A leaky faucet, a broken hinge
Blackened edges in sinks & wedges
And gravel in frames that never let windows slide at ease
Who will tend to my rose garden, I ask?
I've grown a bunch with every promise made
Promises that I can't keep, made in vain
In the hope of finding that better life
Saving them for a rainy day
And a lifetime in a breath
I thought it was better to leave this life behind
Shift to older, more idyllic times
A change of pace, from life in the fast lane
Fair weathered friends, spinning weather vanes
A warning sign of times to come
And how the tides would turn
Why don't we nurture the things we ought to teach & learn
Leave everything to nature, and we got a full blown trial
Of Darwinism, and that shit's hard to survive
Cause we're not the fittest
Some don't even fit the game
Never signed up for some things
Quick to respond when called by my first name
Trained to serve & respond, loyal to a fault
The life we made for us & the simpler times we forgot
