Night market pork.
Dinosaurs in Taichung’s parks.
So, it’s like a lottery pull. You put in $100-$200 (NTD - New Taiwan Dollars) and you get what you get. There is usually a display showing what the supreme prize is and what some of the lesser cool items might be. I found it fun... $600 fun.
Two of my favorite sculptures from a JIMMY retrospective on display in a department store in Taipei, c2017.
An interesting restaurant that I haven’t been brave enough to try.
A positivity reminder sighted on the MRT in Taipei.
Fish climbing the side of a building. I wonder what they were trying to convey or what went into this design decision. Still, it is an interesting sight.
Satanic cab? I always double-take when seeing this number so casually used. Christianity is around 25% of the religious population in Taiwan but it is often still mixed with some degree of ancestor worship as well. Just FYI.
At the time, a rare treat finding a BURGER KING in Taichung. I miss BK and visit it each time I am state-side or going through TPE airport... but haven’t made a habit of visiting the one in Taichung. Hmm...
I love these cartoon-perspective bags and I always crave one when I see them in the department store. This was the first time that I ever saw one in the wild, though.
If your building was like an old-fashioned, well-traveled steam trunk! I love it when a building has character - even if it is only in the embellishments.
Harry Potter reference in Feng Chia night market in Taichung, Taiwan. Love Love Love it. I think it was a tea shop, but I am not sure.
Appreciated and apropos placemat at a steak-house in Taichung. :)
Digital display, B1 of Taoyuan Aiport (TPE) in Taiwan. Obviously taken in 2017 when international travel was still possible.
The airport in Taipei, formerly called CKS (Chang Kai Shek Airport) and subsequently renamed Taoyuan (TPE) Airport when KMT came to power in the 2010s, has always had interesting design and display elements. I am always intrigued each time I visit - when travel was possible I would fly out of TPE about once or twice a year. Oh, how I miss those days. These photos were taken in 2017.
A coaster / plate stuck on the counter of one of my favorite (no longer there) tea shops - Master Tea. I’m an American military brat, so I love the interesting uses of the traditional Uncle Sam US ARMY poster. Especially when it takes me by surprise. This one got a grin instead of a giggle, but was appreciated nonetheless.
CowDung... tarts? Um, yeah, no.
Sometimes the name of the shop is a simple turn-off... I love unusual names, but what imagery were they even trying for?!?!?!?
