So I saw that sour and honey jars exist but I also saw that thier a Hoodoo thing so can anyone who practices Hoodoo tell me if sour and honey jars are closed practice? Or is it a case of cleansing vs smudging where you can do a similar thing but its not gonna be the same ritual if you dont practice?

if you’re doing candle magic/k that is not dependent on the color of the candle, you can add various things to the candle to represent your intention, such as colored glitter, herbs, anointing oils, crystals, etc.
it is so important to study spirituality from all different branches, even if it’s not a path you intend to practice! there is magic in absolutely every belief. uncovering that magic will positively strengthen, shape, and shift your own spiritual practices. the more knowledge you soak up, the more you can confidently walk in your path!
General Etiquette for Working with the Dead
These are some of the guidelines I follow when working with the dead:
When entering a graveyard, be sure to greet and leave something for the guardian of the graveyard.
Never walk on the graves of the deceased.
Never take anything out of the graveyard without permission of the guardian or a specific grave’s resident.
Never take items people have left for their loved ones off the graves.
Only gather graveyard dirt from the perimeter of the graveyard, never from the graves themselves.
Upon leaving the graveyard, say farewell to the dead you encountered, and the guardian.
Never force the dead to work for you, if they are unwilling or unable to aid you try again later or try another spirit.
Be mindful of the dead’s beliefs in life, not all will be friendly to those who practice magic.
Give the dead the same respect and thought that you yourself would wish to be given.
Obey your local laws and ordinances regarding the dead and graveyards/burial sites.

If there is one thing I could really convince younger/newer witches of it would be that it's okay to have secrets. I know that that seems really antithetical to witchblr culture, but it is true. You don't have to show everyone everything. You don't have share every gift that you've been given. You don't have to answer every question you have been asked. It can be fun to teach and to share, to show your techniques, spaces, your hard-earned work to others. But sometimes things are given to you to just be yours, and it is okay to keep those things to yourself. I understand the urge to want to help, to teach, to heal, but sometimes people with good hearts give too much of themselves away. There's actually quite a thrill in keeping certain things sacred and secret. Indulge yourself in a little obfuscation.
I think that the reason tumblr is against the secret keeping mentality is because writers like silver ravenspit were encouraging young people to lie and hide things from their parents, and keep their craft a secret as a method of indoctrination.
That being said, there is a difference in keeping your craft private and a very rich practitioner saying you should lie and hide what they're teaching you, because that can lead to a lot of abuse.
Not only are secrets good, they can also be extremely useful in your practice.

@creature-witch as someone who grew up in abusive household where I had to keep the fact I was eating FOOD to stay alive a secret, I can see why some young people would NEED to keep their practice and beliefs a secret. That being said, Sliver RamenWool is a terrible author. lol

Yeah, when I give examples to people I always change large sections as to how I actually do them. Like I give a working example, but it's always a slightly alternate take at minimum

Never give up everything you know or share everything you can do. Secrets are healthy; you are allowed to keep things to yourself, so long as it’s by your own choice and not someone else’s. (Assuming we’re talking about your craft in general, and not initiatory mysteries or proprietary information.)
Sharing is important for learning and growth. Constructive criticism helps us mend our mistakes. Feedback helps us improve our technique. But that doesn’t mean you have to share everything.
Always keep a little something in your back pocket. Just in case someone throws something nasty at you, thinking you can’t counter it. Just in case someone tries to use your own work against you. Save something for a rainy day. Or an emergency.
I had someone ask me once, “Are you worried that since you’ve published all your spells in your books, somebody might use one of them against you?”

Cherry Lip Bomb (Totally Spies Inspired Spell)
A spell to break through any barriers that prevent you from speaking openly; promotes speaking with confidence.
You will Need:
Cherry Lip Balm (or any sort of lip balm)
Thyme
Water
Steps:
In a jar place some thyme and water. Screw the lid shut and place in a window overnight to charge and infuse the water.
Come morning take the jar of water and bring it to where you are getting read.
With your lip balm and begin putting it on focusing on how it is unbinding and removing the ‘stitches’ that hold your mouth shut and keeps you from speaking.
Dip your dominate pointer finger into the thyme water and gently dab it on your lips but not enough to wash off your lip balm. Imagine as you dab on the water, your lips glowing strong and red.
Rub lips together to finish the spell and mix in the last of the thyme infused water
