How to install loose files/textures files in Penumbra

Disclaimer:

I do it slightly differently. It’s 100% likely this isn’t the “most correct” way to do it. But it’s the way I started to do it and I’m a creature of habit. Terrible terrible habits. Feel free to let me know if there’s a better way to do this! I don’t uh keep up with the Penumbra documentation so I just kinda stumble around until I figure out what I wanna do.

Notes:

A cleaner way to do the first step(s) would be to create a mod pack with your face + body in it rather than a full install of bibo+ and the asym face.

I do this normally, but for this example I just imported the full asym face pack so I could test all 4 face types.

You might need to redraw you character to get the changes to appear. If things aren’t changing double check that you:

Have the mod enabled

It works on the character type you’re trying to apply it to

You have the correct collection applied to your character

You Will Need

Loose Texture files to install.

Steps

1. Import the base mod pack into Penumbra. For this example I’m using the Fem Viera Asym Face Pack.

2. Go to “Edit Mod”. Rename it to whatever you want. You can edit other information on this panel. You want to rename it so A) You know what it is and B) so that you can have multiple of the same base mod installed.

3. Go to “Advanced Editing”. A new panel will open. Go to “Texture Import/Export” on this new panel.

4. Click on the arrow marked ‘1′. A drop down will appear. Select the texture you want to replace. In this example it’s the face 1 diffuse. If you get a bunch of red text, you’ve selected the wrong file. Usually it’s one above it. Once you find the texture you want to replace, click on the folder marked ‘2′. This will let you browse to the texture you want to import.

5. Once you’ve imported the new texture you need to save it. Click on “Save as Tex”.

6. That will open a file browser. You then want to go and find the file you’re overwriting.

In this case it’s all the way in “AsymFaces - Viera Female\AsymFaces (Required Files)\REQUIRED\chara\human\c1801\obj\face\f0001\texture“.

I’m replacing the “–c1801f0001_fac_b_d.tex” file. Then Click “ok”.

7. That should be it! You may need to redraw your character to see changes. Do the same for any normal maps or specular/multi maps that might be needed. Once you do this a few times it’s should be super easy to hot swap stuff.
