Mini Writing Hack: Trying to describe your setting but can't figure out where to start? Start with the people. What are they doing? Dancing? Drinking? Reading?
If there aren't people around, what did they leave behind? Books? Newspapers? What is the setting's purpose? Abandoned train station? Empty warehouse?

Nagoya, the second largest city in Japan after Tokyo, is a multi-layered megacity sprawling across the Nōbi Plain like a Portuguese Man O' War. Soaring architecture and dangerous depths. It's grown so much in the last century that it's consumed the surrounding cities and towns, sinking its teeth into a decent chunk of Ise Bay.
Affectionately known as a wretched hive of scum and villainy, news coming out of the city is sparse, and as such, heroes are in short supply. Which is just the way the people there like it.
He's lived here for over half his life now, which, at 11, isn't a lot. But the time before feels hazy and distant, like the sky before pre-dawn, when the smog chokes out the stars and blankets the skyscrapers.
All he has left from before are a pair of rings tucked in his shirt, some scars, and a phone number that he uses to call Auntie once a month to let her know he's still alive.

Chapter 1: Grisha Part 1
Eleven years go by, no eagles and no letters. Grigorij had never seen Mama cry until the day they wiped his mind and dropped him on the steps of an orphanage. The matron asked for his name, and he told her the only things he remembered.
His given name is Grigorij, the colour black - meagre words rattling around in his empty skull.
Years pass, and he’s his mother’s son. With a mind like a steel trap and a switchblade in his pocket, Grigorij lives. With bloody knuckles and black eyes, he drags his memories out of the dark, kicking and screaming.
He picks his mind apart and stitches it back together until he has them all—until he knows himself back to front and inside-out. No one will ever be able to obliviate him again.
