laughter   comes   the   very   instant   theo   finishes   his   threat   as   loki   lost   his   composure   in   amusement.                    bold   words.                    so   bold   in   fact   that   the   norse   deity   challenged   his   bluff.                    ❛           you’re   a   foolish   man.          it’s   difficult   to   believe   sigyn   chose   someone   so   daft.         ❜                    the   cocky   laughs   continue   to   roll   out   as   loki   continued   on.                    unfortunately   for   theo,          he   was   about   to   witness   just   a   sliver   of   the   frustration   loki   had   built   up   over   the   years.                    endless   aching   and   feverish   desperation   that   had   lay   dormant   were   now   erupting   and   burning   under   his   pale   skin.                    

❛           you   know   nothing   of   me.         ❜                    loki   nearly   spat   the   words   in   a   slight   huff.                    his   amused   grin   was   still   displayed,          but   it   was   stiff   and   moments   from   breaking.

❛           do   you   know   how   I   know ?          you’re   forgetting   a   significant   tale   in   my   story.          can   you   surpass   the   pain   of   having   your   son   slaughtered?          can   you   recreate   the   agonizing   burn   of   the   venom   that   blistered   my   skin ? !                    your   ignorance   is   astounding.          your   threats   are   empty   and   the   only   reason   I   don’t   send   you   flying   through   that   window   behind   you,   is   her.           ❜                    he   growled.

Theo was speechless for a moment. Out of surprise, yes, but also out of fear. A deity he had thought just a myth a few moments ago was threatening him. He didn’t put it past this particular deity to still find a way to curse him somehow. At least he trusted that Signe - no, Sigyn now - wouldn’t allow him to. 

“The same venom that she protected you from? And what did you give her in return? Apart from manipulation and trickery. of course. Because that’s what you are, isn’t it? A trickster.” Even he was surprised at this sudden burst of courage, but it was true. He would not stop her from going to him, but by God (or, he supposed, the gods now) he would ensure she was safe. “She may be destined to be your wife, but will she want to be? After everything you have done?”

The smallest stir indicated that the goddess in question was beginning to return to consciousness. Her movements were slow and weary, but she still brought her hand up to rest on her forehead. “Did I indulge in too much wine, or is there a valid reason for this headache that feels as if I was hit on the head by a giant?”

a   single   step   forward   and   loki   was   able   to   easily   keep   his   arm   wrapped   fully   around   her.                    supporting   her   weight   completely   as   she   goes   limp   and   quiet.                    concern   takes   his   features   at   first   before   he   feels   her   life   force   resonating.                    something   had   been   triggered   within   her   and   a   his   lips   curl   upwards   in   anticipation   paired   with   high   hopes.

❛          seems   you   know   who   I   am   .   .   .         ❜                    loki’s   smile   grows   into   a   prideful   smirk.                    shifting   sigyn’s   weight   so   her   head   and   back   rested   against   his   shoulder,          he   was   able   to   turn   towards   theo   properly.

                 ❛          if   that’s   so                              then   you’ll   know   i’m   here                                                           for   my   wife.         ❜

Theo’s gaze remained on his fiancée, an internal battle raging in his mind. Every part of him wanted to object. Of course she wasn’t a goddess and he...the actual God of Mischief himself. That was absolute nonsense.

But there was another part of him that somehow knew. She had always been different; coming to conclusions in their work that no-one had thought of, seeming to know things just out of “gut feeling”, and a seemingly unending tolerance to alcohol. 

Sighing, he nodded. “No doubt.” He replied, his voice solemn. “And...I’m not going to stop you.”

Was he upset? Of course. He loved her more than anything. But if she chose to be with the man she had been with for many millennia, he would not object. “All I care about is her happiness, if she wants to be with you, I won’t stop her.” His expression turned serious. “But I’ve read all there is about you. God or not, you’ll feel worse than Odin’s wrath from me if you hurt her.”

OH                         how   his   spirit   soared   to   finally   hear   a   declaration   of   love   from   her.                    The   recognition   in   her   eyes   flickers   like   the   sparking   of   a   flame   and   it   lures   forth   a   small   grin   while   she   lessens   distance   between   them.                    infinite   felt   to   be   the   number   of   nights   he’d   dreamt   of   this   moment,          waking   to   tears   stains   and   clenched   jaws.                    the   return   of   his   wife.                    loki   had   pictured   it   unfolding   in   endless   ways.                    this   definitely   hadn’t   been   among   them,          but   nothing   about   it   was   the   least   bit   disappointing.

whilst   she   was   stood   so   close,          the   god’s   hand   slides   up   to   caress   her   lower   back.                    the   manner   in   which   she   fit   in   his   arms  .  .  .  there   was   nothing   that   compared   to   holding   her.                    and   the   closer   their   lips   became   he’s   more   than   tempted   to   take   them.                    to   show   her   just   how   much   he   loved   her   as   well.                    but   it’s   the   mortal   man’s   exclamation   that   reminds   the   trickster   he   hadn’t   concealed   them   from   sight.                    he   had   merely   conjured   the   illusion   around   them.                    his   movements   halt.

thick   annoyance   coats   loki’s   expression   as   his   eyes   roll   and   his   head   turns   to   look   in   the   man’s   direction.                    shimmering   cityscape   around   them   dissipates   to   reveal   they   were   still   stood   in   the   empty   museum   room.                    well,          not   empty   anymore.                    slender   fingers   curl   slightly   tighter   against   her   back,          as   if   he   were   going   to   pull   her   closer   but   they   don’t   tighten   fully.                    not   wanting   to   restrict   her   if   she   needed   to   step   away.                      but   a   portion   of   him   hoped   she   wouldn’t.                    that   she   would   instead   embrace   further   and   dismiss   theo   completely.                    unfortunately   loki   knew   things   wouldn’t   likely   be   that   simple.          as   much   as   he   would   like   to   just   whisk   her   off   just   then,          he   leaves   her   to   decide   how   to   approach   her   fiancé’s   discovery   of   them.                    sizing   up   his   potential   opponent.

Her first thought upon hearing her fiancé’s voice was keeping Loki from hurting him - somehow she had a feeling deep in her gut that he was not above doing so. To her surprise, however, he showed little to no expression apart from the tightening of his grip on her lower back. 

Which, as it would soon turn out, was a blessing in disguise. Panic rose in her throat, acid burning and making her feel violently ill. “Th-Theo!” She gasped, turning to run towards him. Her fiancé. The man who had done everything in his power to support her. Who loved her dearly and would do anything for her. Had been nothing but supportive.

But the man who’s arms she was currently in...she loved him too. And the love she felt for him was neverending. She knew, deep down, that she had loved him no matter what, and that she would forevermore. She had been the mother of his children. She had been a goddess - bound eternally to him. 

The acid burning in her throat only grew worse, before she suddenly fell limp. Loki’s grip preventing her from colliding into the ground, a searing pain in her head the last sensation she felt. Even so, the hairs on her arm were raised, and the aura around her seemed to thrum with a mysterious power. As if something were awakening once again.

Theo moved towards her, nothing but concern written on his face. The images of her in this strange man’s arms replayed again and again in her mind, but the shimmering of a façade created by this man also lingered in his mind. Remembering the work he had completed with Signe, he stared at the man with a bewildered expression. But this was myth! “No...bloody...way...” He exclaimed. “But that would mean she...”

a  surprisingly  soft  smile     appears   and   he   watches   her   reaction   with   an   expression   of   genuine   comfort.                 it   relieves   him   to   see   the   recognition   and   even   more   so   when   he   hears   her   finally   come   to   the   conclusion   herself.               for   once   loki   holds   his   tongue.               he   just   wants   to   savor   the   moment   his   wife   succumbed   to   her   past   life’s   memory.               though   as   she   draws   closer   and   rests   her   hand   on   him,      he   can   see   her   skepticism.               hesitation   and   what   looked   like   fear.               surely   not   of   him,      but   his   intentions.               lips   tighten   and   loki’s   once   again   reminded   of   his   titles.               a   god   so   deceptive   and   legendary   for   his   wicked   deeds.               often   he   wore   the   terms   with   pride.                 confidence.               but   hearing   the   doubt   in   her   tone   makes   it   hard   to   feel   settled   with   his   status.

❛        I   can   take   you   there.       ❜                    he   admits   this   with   a   solid   tone.               firmly   preventing   it   from   wavering   as   he   continues,      DESPERATE   to   trigger   the   deep   trust   she   used   to   hold   for   him.               reaching   up   slowly,      his   fingers   curl   over   her   hand   and   keeps   it   pressed   against   his   chest.

                           ❛        come   home   with   me.       ❜

The softness in his voice envelops her like a blanket, and it triggers a response from deep within her. Safe. Love. 

“Home...”

In this moment, she could recognise a man she had loved so long ago. The facade of a Trickster melted away, and she swore she felt her heart glow. Slowly, she smiled. A warm, loving smile. She realised that yes, she could love this man.

“I knew you...” Her voice was barely audible as she placed her hand over his own, as if desperate to keep it between hers. “No wait I...I know you. And...I loved you. No, wait...” Her cheeks felt wet, and she realised she was crying.

“I do love you.” As if overwhelmed by...something...she began leaning closer to him. Closing her eyes, her lips just brushed his, something sparking in the depths of her mind-

“Alright, I think I’ve got this belt - what the hell?” Theo.

WITH  HER  QUESTIONING     his   eyes   follow   her   movements   as   she   searches   for   the   slip   of   paper   that   is   presented   to   him.            he   only   has   to   glance   over   it   briefly   for   him   to   recognize   it.            the   golden   realm   of   the   gods.            his   home.            HER   home.              loki   was   inwardly   thrilled   to   know   she   had   been   remembering   it   without   his   help.            even   if   it   was   with   her   subconscious   mind.

❛        indeed.       ❜                    his   chin   dips   once   in   a   nod   before   the   room   around   her   seems   to   shimmer   and   fade.            they   haven’t   left   the   study   room,     but   it’s   as   if   they’re   now   stood   in   another   place.            the   walls   around   them   were   now   replaced   with   open   stone   archways   laced   with   ivy   that   presented   a   view   of   a   grand   and   glittering   civilization.            thriving   and   breathtaking   in   it’s   sight   alone.                    ❛        ásgarðr.        this   is   the   place   you   dream   of.       ❜                    there’s   a   shadow   of   pride   in   his   tone   at   the   sheer   magnificence   alone.            happy   to   be   the   one   to   show   her   what   she   had   originally   been   born   a   part   of,     despite   it   just   being   a   temporary   illusion.

The world around her seemed to fade away, only to be replaced by a world that felt familiar. Very familiar. 

And it was beautiful.

A flood of emotions drowned her, and tears spilled from her eyes. “I-I can’t believe it’s real...” Her voice was barely a whisper, the hand now covering her mouth shaking intensely. Cautiously, she reached out to touch the ivy, only for her hand to pass through it.

An illusion. Of course.

“So you truly are...” She believed it before, but now it was real. Pausing for a moment, she took a hesitant step closer to him, and very softly placed her hand on his chest. “And we...”

We were married. Thousands of years ago.

Then, she frowned. “But...how can I know this isn’t a trick?” He was the Trickster, after all. How could she know he wasn’t lying purely to lure her in again.

THAT  LOOK  OF  STUBBORN  PRIDE.    it   makes   his   chest   tighten   with   slight   ache.                 it   makes   him   yern   for   the   past   instances  in   which   he   could   spark   the   same   look   in   her.            the   only   difference   being   that   in   their   past,      loki   could   counter   it   with   a   display   of   playful   affection   or   sweet   words.            but   to   do   so   here,      those   methods   would   likely   earn   the   opposite   reaction   he   craved.            still,      he   can’t   help   his   small   creeping   smile   at   the   familiarity   of   her   demeanor.

slow   boot   steps,      echoing   softly   now   that   he   was   no   longer   concealed   from   her,      take   him   in   a   slow   and   steady   semi  -  circle   around   her.            coming   to   a   stop   only   an   arms   length   away   from   the   mortal   goddess.                    ❛        not   complaining   are   you   ?       ❜                    playful   words   are   the   cards   he   chooses   to   play   for   the   moment.            at   least   until   he’s   tested   the   waters.

❛        what   can   I   say   ?       ❜                    oh   there’s   PLENTY   of   things.            though   loki   settles   on   a   bit   of   flattery.                    ❛        I   was   never   very   good   at   keeping   distance   between   us.       ❜                    the   proof   practically   presented   itself   in   the   form   of   further   footsteps   that   bring   the   trickster   to   stand   directly   before   her   again.            his   head   tilted   down   to   keep   their   eyes   connected. 

❛             but   if   you   prefer   I   go,      I   shall.       ❜

His calculated, circling footsteps made her feel as if she were being stalked; a wolf circling its’ prey. She should feel frightened...but wasn’t. It felt oddly familiar, and the hairs on her arm were raised, but not from fear.

With a sigh and a soft shake of the head, she replied. “No...no you never were.” And she knew the words to be true. Memories of arguments, followed by his refusal to leave her side despite her irritation flashed across her mind for the briefest moment. It elicited a puff of air from her nose; a soft laugh.

“No.” Her voice echoed urgency. “I-I mean...I don’t know.” How could he leave? She had far too many questions that needed answering, and he was the only one who could. And, much to her annoyance, she didn’t want him to leave.

The sketch...

Of course. How could she forget? Quickly rummaging in her notes, she found the sketch she had done late at night after a particularly vivid dream. Although coloured in grey lead, in her mind it had been a land of shimmering gold, with a bridge of endless colours leading from it. It had felt...like home.

Pausing for a moment, she handed the sketch to him. “Does...does this mean anything to you? I see it in my dreams.” Part of her knew the answer - there was only one place described with a rainbow bridge - but she needed him to confirm it.

MANIPULATOR.  DECIEVER.  TITLES LOKI HELD FOR CENTURIES.    yet   as   she   spoke   now   of   his   intents,      it   brings   a   new   tightness   to   his   chest.               a   very   unpleasant   one   at   that.               of   course   he   was   accustomed   to   being   viewed   in   such   manners,      even   by   sigyn.               but   he   knew   in   the   past,      sigyn   had   always   loved   him   past   all   that.               without   her   past   knowledge   and   experience,      she   would   remain   more   human   than   æsir.               and   in   this   moment,      it   was   beginning   to    PAIN   him.

loki’s   feet   remain   planted   and   still   as   she   retreats   from   his   known   location   and   returns   to   her   desk.               eyes   dart   over   her   and   search   for   a    remnant   of   who   she   once   was.               he   needs   to   find   her   again.               he’s   determined   to   find   her.               but   it   was   clear   that   to   do   so   would   mean   risking   her   entirely.               after   all,      if   he   wasn’t   able   to   return   her   memories   fully      (    which   he   wasn’t   at   all   certain   was   even   possible    )      he   could   loose   her   entirely   to   this   mortal   man.               

it   seems   the   thought   of   loosing   her   pushes   his   feet   to   take   a   step   or   two.               bringing   him   to   the   corner   of   the   desk   to   look   over   the   paper   she   spoke   of.                fingers   lift   and   lay   upon   the   parchment   while   his   gaze   ghosts   over   the   lettering   in   search   of   errors   and   misplacement.               the   very   second   his   lips   part,      the   quick    green   glowing   of   his   magic   recedes   from   his   form   to   visibly   reveal   it   without   a   sound.

❛        well   for   starters,    I   don’t   see   anything   anywhere   about   my   statuesque   and   quite   stunning   physique.       ❜          he   punctuates   the   words   with   a   small   and   humorous   smile.               sure,      he   was   enjoying   this   game   of   verbal   chicken   between   them,      but   he   knew   when   the   time   for   games   was    OVER.

With a small yelp, she dropped her recently organised notes back onto the desk in fright. He had spoken. And now he was here - physically here! Words escaped her, and she stared in shock. He was so adamant on not speaking...what had changed?

“You’re...you’re here.” She whispered, swallowing the odd lump that had formed in her throat. Of course she always knew he was here, but seeing him and hearing him? Completely different

With a shake of her head, she recovered enough to comprehend what he was saying. With a short laugh, she grabbed her notes back from him, scanning them quickly. “Modest, aren’t you?” She replied, hurriedly organising her once-again dropped papers. Despite her...distraction...she still had a job to do.

“Why are you here? And speaking?” She sighed, turning fully to face him, folding her arms across her chest. “You seemed pretty adamant on doing neither a few moments ago.”

JEALOUS.   despite  the  accuracy  of  the  word  the  trickster  scoffs  aloud.          a  sound  that  could  be  explained,     had  there  actually  been  anyone  else  in  the  room.          but  being  that  it  was  only  the  unseen  sorcerer  and  his  reincarnated  wife,     there  was  no  way  to  hide  the  origin  of  the  noise  and  loki  knew  she  would  recognize  it.          STILL,     he  manages  to  stay  firm  and  prevent  a  word  from  snaking  through  his  teeth.

                            jealous  ?     of  WHAT  exactly  ?     

this  man  she  embraced,     within  loki’s  rightful  place  in  her  arms,     hardly  seems  even  the  slightest  bit  special.          he  lacks  any  type  of  wise  luster  and  the  god  could  easily  tell  this  mortal  had  likely  never  seen  battle  or  true  tribulation.          such  meager  creatures,     miðgarðrians.          living  lives  that  loki  himself  would  find  mind  numbingly  tedious.          not  a  single  trait  or  attribute  could  reveal  to  loki  what  the  man  had  done  to  win  sigyn’s  affections.

when  she  approached  him  he  holds  his  breath.          caught  off  guard  by  her  accurate  aim  of  attention.          almost  so  naturally  so  that  he  was  almost  certain  for  a  single  moment  that  she  could  see  him.          surprisingly  this  returns  a  smile  to  him.          without  hesitation,     he  reaches  up  and  curls  two  fingers  under  her  chin.          lifting  it  only  a  centimeter  or  two  before  he  taps  it  fondly  and  pulled  his  hand  back. 

Inhaling sharply as she felt two distinct fingers under her chin, she couldn’t stop the involuntary smile that crept onto her face. Despite everything he had done to her, she couldn’t deny the feelings he ignited somewhere deep within her. She had reached the point where she had somewhat accepted what he had told her was the truth, and that these feelings she had were at least partially real.

But this was her life. She would decide her future. Besides, a part of her still believed this was all a trick somehow.

Sighing, she shook her head softly. “If you weren’t so intent on manipulating me, I might have developed feelings for you on my own.” She sounded almost disappointed, which was reflected in her expression. “There’s a reason I love Theo - he doesn’t treat me like a child. He never pushes me to do something I don’t want to.” Biting her lip, her expression turned sad. “Deep down, I feel like...you were like that once, too.”

Returning to her desk and her notes, her eyes landed on her notes talking about, well, him. “While you’re here, you can at least make sure I got the details of your life right.” She placed the notes on the side closest to where he was standing.

                  LYING LIPS FLATTEN TO AN IMPENDING GRIMACE          as  he  was  forced  to  bare  witness  to  such  a  heinous  display.          it  nearly  gave  him  enough  cause  to  avert  his  eyes,    which  in  fact  he  did.          only  to  have  them  land  on  the  man  who  had  the  unfortunate  position  of  being  his  wife’s  current  fiance.          oh  the  poor  soul  would  be  the  new  outlet  for  loki’s  frustrations.          especially  during  his  and  sigyn’s  verbal  hiatus.          

                                 and  why  waste  any  time ?

                  he  extends  a  finger  in  the  man’s  direction  and  the  buckle  of  his  trousers  unhinges  silently.          slowly  and  completely,     unbeknownst  to  either  of  them,      the  same  trousers  then  shimmy  down  and  fall  to  the  floor  while  they  kiss.          such  a  classic  it  almost  seemed  tasteless.          but  it  was  amusing  enough  for  now  until  he  could  learn  MORE  about  how  to  get  under  the  man’s  skin.          the  god's  arms  cross  and  he  just  watches  in  waiting  with  an  expression  of  eager  anticipation.          gods  he  couldn’t  wait  to  see  her  smile.          her  eyes  lighting  up  with  laughter  .  .  .  he  missed  it  so  much.

“What the hell?”

Being quickly let go, Sigyn was just about to ask what she had done her mind immediately wandering to the god in the corner, but how would he know about that, only to look down and know just what it was. The corners of her mouth twitched uncontrollably, before she burst into a fit of uncontrollable laughter, covering her mouth with her hands. 

“I swear this place has cursed all my belts!”

As he bent down to pull up his pants, Sigyn looked over in the corner of the room, unable to remove the amused grin from her face. Funny, he knew exactly how to make her laugh. Still, it was done out of spite towards her fiancé. But...still...

“Okay, I need to go check this belt. I think I need to replace them all.” Embarrassment rife in his voice, he left the room after giving her a kiss on the cheek. 

She was silent for a moment, before raising her eyebrow at the corner of the room. “Is it your goal to embarrass my fiancé every second you get?” She asked, taking a few steps closer. She swore she could sense where exactly he was, so she stopped only an inch from him. Her smile turned to a smirk and she cocked her head to the side. “Are you jealous, my darling trickster?”
