your art is so pretty.... whats your process like? do you draw on one layer or several?

Thank you! i feel like i have a weird process, but i’ll try to explain it best i can (but short answer is yes, i mostly draw on one layer)

I start w a messy sketch, and then go over it w neater sketches/adjust the composition until i like it. Then (on another layer under it) I either do grayscale tones to determine values/contrast beforehand, or just skip straight to rough coloring while being mindful of value. If i do the former, then i make a layer on top when i’m done and set it to “color” mode to color the grayscale tones.

At this point i merge the layers, and work on a single layer to render/draw. Once i clean it up just a little bit, i stop to adjust colors and values using various features under the “image > adjustments” tab in photoshop (Brightness/contrast, Shadows/highlights, selective color, channel mixer, and color balance are the tools i use the most for this.) I might also set overlay, soft light, or multiply layers at anywhere from 90% to 10% opacity, and see how they effect the colors and values as well.

Then I merge the layers to a single again, and finish rendering/drawing. I also might go back into "image > adjustments" again to see if there are other variations or tweaks i like better before calling it finished.
