RANT (PLEASE READ ALL OF IT): All fan artists need more love and attention (reblog this if you feel the same)
I don't usually make these kinds of posts, but right now, I am feeling pretty upset about something... Something that I guarantee a lot of you struggle with, too...
Before I start, I need to disclose this: THIS IS NOT MEANT TO ATTACK ANYONE!!!! THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE PETTY, MEAN, RUDE, ENTITLED, OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT!!!! AND I AM INFINITELY SORRY IN ADVANCE IF IT COMES OFF THAT WAY!!!!
I feel like every time I put myself out there and show my art and make fanart for people I look up to to make their day and make them happy, it never seems to work. All of my stuff just flies under the radar and I never know what to do to help it gain more attention. I seriously put a lot of hard work and love into what I make and post. It may not be the best ever, but it should still count as something.
It doesn't make it any better for me when I'm seeing other people do the same thing I am where they make fanart for their favorite creators/fan artists and they get noticed. Please do not get me wrong, I am genuinely so thrilled for those people! It's just really discouraging to me that I can never seem to do the same no matter what I do and how hard I try. I was literally just considering to stop posting art and engaging with others' art because of this.
This is also why I always make sure to give any fanart I get as much attention as possible because I want to make other people happy. They took time out of their day to make me something and I am so fucking grateful for it and them. I really think we need to start realizing that aspect instead of the content and/or quality of the fanart.
Guys, if you have certain standards of the fanart you get that you choose to engage with, that is such absolute bullshit. It's one thing to miss the posts if you didn't see them, but if you do see it and just choose (not forget to, but consciously choose) to not even put a like on it (just a like and nothing else), that (in my opinion) should not be as normalized as it is.
Again, if you simply just don't see the fanart or forget to even put a like on it or anything, that's totally fine and perfectly understandable. However, they don't know if you've even seen their fanart if you don't even put a like on it. They can't read your mind. They're now stuck wondering endlessly if you've seen what they made you.
Okay, I will also say that if this person has a history of bombarding you (or even being parasocial like I, unfortunately, have been to others), it's far more understandable if you don't engage with their stuff. But in my own personal experience, the kinds of people who end up bombarding you with fanart and comments and such are the people who tried being normal about it at first and it didn't work for them, so they do it even more in hopes that they'll get noticed.
At that point, you may block them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that at all, but if you do it without even telling them beforehand to please tone it down and give them the chance to (and still have never responded to any of their fanart, comments, etc.), it's only then that they realize that, not only why they got blocked, but you also did notice them and just never made it known to them that you did.
If you even get a small feeling that this all applies to you, it probably does, even if you don't/didn't realize it. Please let your fans (the ones who actually love and care about you and your art; not the predators, bad kind of weirdos, people who don't see you as an actual human being, etc.) know that you love and appreciate them and their support. One simple like or "Thank you!" really does go a LONG way. It encourages them to keep going. It literally just brightens their day.

Alright, I get that if an artist is big enough and receives enough fanart, it can be overwhelming, but it’s just nice and polite to at least try
Even if it’s just a simple “this is so cute! Thanks!” Ultimately, you can’t force someone to like and comment, but I do just wish simple politeness and appreciation towards smaller and beginner artists was more normalized.
Also Sadly, I don’t think this is entirely a problem with individuals, moresoe just a consequence of current internet culture in general
