biography
Trigger warning: Drugs, depression, anxiety, domestic violence.
Isa’s childhood was lovely as she would put it. She grew up with her parent’s, Carmelita and Archie Cooper, and her older sibling Minsu in a remarkably family friendly neighborhood in the village Maywood of Illinois. Isa was a very curious and playful child. She loved to discover and try new things and would always act first and think later, being a very compulsive and adventurous child. As a teenager Isa experienced a high amount of anxiety as she took a rapid fall from being a A student down to a C average. Isa had a hard time understanding how she could become such a horrible student in such a short time when she always worked hard on her studies and her ethic hadn’t changed since junior high, but somehow high school was too hard for her to handle and she experienced herself as a failure and undeserving of anything, becoming a very anxious and unhappy, depressed teen. In her last year of high school, Isa was giving up on school and education, nothing seemed to be working and her mental health kept declining in such a way that Isa did not know what to do, nor did her family as she tried to hide her unhappiness to them. But she found what she considered her saving grace when she got her first boyfriend Asher, but he introduced her to a coping method that she would lean on substantially for the next few years, which were drugs. At the age of 19, Isa was a pregnant high school drop out and still dating Asher, but they lived together in a crummy trailer in his parents backyard. They were still self medicating with drugs and although Isa tried to quit, she was on and off using while pregnant. The young couple were only able to keep their baby for 2 years before they were deemed unfit and their child put in foster with a family that could take proper care of it. Isa’s parents were not interested in taking custody of Isa’s child and Asher's parents were also deemed unfit parents as they had a hostile and abusive marriage and also took drugs. Isa never forgave her parents for not helping her when she needed it the most, they had totally written her out when she dropped out of school and they found out about her drug abuse, and as she lost her child, she wrote her parents off as well. The relationship between Asher and Isa was very passionate and they truly thought they were in love, but they also fought passionately and kept hurting each other over and over with cheating and lying and stealing from each other. The relationship became rockier after the birth of their child and when they lost their child to child services, it got so bad between them that Isa ended up leaving him in the middle of the night and never came back.
After leaving Asher, Isa tried to get her life back together, she wanted a better life for herself and her daughter, but she planned on getting her back. She moved in with her older sibling Minsu, which was the only person she felt had never actually turned their back on her and truly wanted to help her. She also started reconnecting with her cousin beck as she started writing him again, but they had been really close up until she turned to the world of drugs and Asher. After a while of sleeping on her siblings couch, after reading about Beck’s life in Azure heights and his new restaurant and life, Isa at the age of 22 decided she needed to start a new and left Maywood for a fresh start in a new town. One of her main reasons for leaving was the news of her daughter and her new family moving to London, she lost all hope of getting her back and knew she truly needed to make a change. Isa being used to getting her way as the younger cute little sister, managed to talk Minsu into moving with her and together they moved to Silver point to start the new life Isa desired so much, and she would always be grateful to Minsu for the everlasting support they had given her, for even though they say running away wouldn't change anything, the move to silver point truly changed her life. She finally became clean and stayed clean, something she had tried a hundred times but never succeeded til then. She got a job at Beck’s place Coda and got a really good social life feeling a part of a community that accepted her for once.
Isa is now 27 years old, still living in silver point and working at Coda, and still being close with Beck and Minsu but they are the most important people in her life, always have been and always will be. Isa’s daughter still lives in London but her foster parents send her pictures and updates on her little angel, so she gets to watch her grow up from a distance, although she wants more, she feels blessed to get this much from them. She’s been clean and sober 5 years and counting, as she strives hard to stay clean and be on the straight path of life.

Eli and Marshall (Coda Costume Party - October 27th)
Marshall was enjoying the music, and the scene at CODA. Halloween usually wasn’t his thing, but he decided to dress up this year. It could be fun, and everyone already seemed to be enjoying being in the moment. “Cheers,” he smiled and nodded at the person next to him.
Eli eyed the menu, he mulled over just what he craved more when he heard the person next to him. "Cheers, Happy Halloween and all that jazz."
Marshall chuckled. "Love the costume by the way," he said. "Waldo. Always a classic."
"Yeah. I thought I would be hard to find but here I am." Eli gave a shrug before nodding over at the line. "I wonder if they'll even notice I'm here when I'm next."
“Well, you’ve got to give them a reason to remember your name,” Marshall mused. “Halloween is the best time to do that,” he said, looking up around at the decorations. “You gonna get up there and sing?”
Eli chuckled at the question and shook his head. "No, I'm not someone who gets on the stage and sing. That's for me and my shower."
Marshall smirked. “Okay, if you insist,” he chuckled. “I’m sure there will be someone worse up there,”
Eli: "You say that now, who knows, maybe someone's about to nab a record deal."
“Yours?” Marshall teased. “C’mon, if you sing I’ll sing, I’ll even buy your next round,”
Eli: "...you play a hard bargain."
“I had a feeling you’d like that offer,” Marshall grinned.
Eli's lips pressed firmly together in a tight line and his eyes narrowed. "Before I completely shatter my reputation of being comical yet aloof and a total, complete wallflower, I should at least know who's putting me up to this.."
Marshall smirked, watching him. “Marshall,” he said with a nod. “Uhhh… aka Beignet Boy I guess?”
"I'm Eli, Waldo is just my stage name."

Becks: Do please make yourselves at home, everyone, and get to know each other a little better. Refreshments will be served in the main parlor once all of our guests have arrived!
Billie moved put of the back room, the giant earpod off and she was left in a white shirt and and shorts-- a bit more appropriate for the next part of the costume party. She nodded over to the other members of the murder mystery part of the party. She also would never confess that she spent most of the night before practicing her 'rich person' voice.
Tessa tapped her fingernails nervously against the wood of the bar top table, glancing around at the other participants. Getting in character and staying in character was a lot harder then she’d anticipated, but she settled on a wispy, dreamy tone as she leaned sideways and murmured, “Lovely evening, isn’t it? Pity it can’t last…”
Usually Cici wasn't one to play too deep, or even along with such silly festivities, but she figured 'What the heck!' She read her character and held her nose high. "Is this evening really all that lovely?"
Tia pushed her glasses up her nose — she’d fished them out of her purse as soon as she’d finished laughing over her character description, although she hadn’t ditched the wig — and tilted her head. “It depends on if we’re speaking meteorologically or metaphorically, I suppose…”
Sarahi just threw her hair over her shoulder, lip pursed and arms crossed. It was as though Becks knew the perfect role to cast her in. She didn't say a thing to the others, she just flashed a tight lipped smile and picked at her nails.
Billie stood up straight and plastered a wide grin on her face, her head tilted and eyes narrowed. "I do hope that everyone enjoys the wine from my family's vineyard."
With a great show of deference, Becks crossed over to murmur something in Billie’s ear, drawing her away from the others to keep from being overheard. He pulled her out of the cluster of players entirely and towards a comfortable chair set off to one side by the bar, sparing Cici and Sarahi each a polite (if nervous) smile.
”Oh, there’s naught better than a Venti vintage, I’m certain we’ll enjoy the fruits of the family’s fortunes.” Tessa fluttered one hand idly as Becks retreated with Billie, and her voice slipped into a gauzy singsong. “I was actually speaking more existentially, however. The spirits are quiescent now, but… restless… very restless indeed…”
A few moments later, and Becks returned from the bar with a generous drink in hand and turned back to the gathered group looking dismayed. “My dear ladies and gentlefolk, I’m afraid you’ll all have to remain calm and stay where you are. There’s been an… incident. The authorities will have to question all of you — it seems Miss Ariana Venti, our hostess this evening… has been murdered.” He shook his head mournfully and handed off the drink to Billie with a barely concealed wink. “I fear she’s quite dead. Drowned, in fact… found face down in a wine barrel just moments ago — a refreshingly fruity Chardonnay, actually, such a tragedy.”
Billie followed Becks and dramatically flopped to the floor, drink still in hand and up in the air as to not spill. "OH THE HUMANITY!" She cried before sticking her tongue out and shutting her eyes tight.
Marshall looked over and bit his lip. “Well, that’s one way to do it,” he said. “A wine heiress eliminated by wine?”
Tia's lips quirked as she tried not to react to Billie's dramatics -- she was supposed to be dead, after all -- and nodded sagely. "It's almost poetic. Macabre, of course, and tragic goes without saying -- rest her poor, outrageously wealthy soul," she added, sketching a very vague cross in the air in front of her.
Tessa, for her part, made no attempt at all to ignore Billie's display, although she did bite her lip to keep from laughing. Mystic, her character sheet had said. Seances. "Oh yes, the spirits are very displeased," she said, looking straight at Billie in detached fascination. "To welcome one so young into their number this evening... I imagine they have quite a lot to say about this turn of events."
Cici: "But can we still enjoy the wine? Is there a will of some sort? What will happen now?"
Sarahi merely put an overly dramatic frown on her lips before quickly giving a shrug and drinking more of the wine in front of her.
Becks pressed one hand flat against his chest, looking appropriately mournful. "We will, of course, make sure you are all sufficiently taken care of in terms of refreshments, while the authorities conduct their investigation," he said solemnly. "I'm sure you understand the very grave nature of the circumstances, and that you all will be asked to account for your whereabouts since arriving at the vineyard -- given that Miss Venti's murderer is likely right here in this room."
Cici scoffed, the corner of her mouth curled as she shook her head. "Please, that's ridiculous. What reason would someone have to kill her?" She then pressed the edge of the glass at the tip of her lips. "I know I had no reason to."
Tia lifted one eyebrow delicately at that. "Wasn't there a question about if there was a will of some sort? I'm no expert, but that sounds an awful lot like a reason..."
Cici: "I was curious, that's it."
Blaire and Robin (Coda Costume Party - October 27th)
Robin's fingers on one hand always found themselves brushing over the rose quartz that dangled around his neck. The other hand just tap on the edge of the glass he order just over ten minutes ago. Part of him wondered if he should leave and call it a night, the other part of him found himself reaching for his phone a messaging Blaire suddenly-- which seemed to be a reoccurring thing. 'Hey, how's your night going? :)'
Blaire had been dancing with her friends when her feet needed a break. Even with flats on. She was sipping on her wine when her phone buzzed on the table. When she saw who it was, she smiled softly to herself and immediately picked up her phone to respond: 'Hey there! It's going great! I'm at the Coda party. How about you??
When Robin read the message, he placed his phone back into his pocket and found himself leaving the bar counter. It usually would have been quite easy to find anyone at Coda, but the with amount of party goers, it seemed quite difficult to spot the blonde. He almost gave up but soon found her. "Yeah, I am," Robin greeted, referring back to the text conversation.
Blaire stared down at her phone, waiting on a reply before her screen went dark. She assumed the man was probably busy, maybe even working. After his birthday, she recognized he didn't indulge in celebrations much. She was zoned out, sipping on her wine, when she was snapped out of her trance. She jumped at the voice behind her and then turned around to see Robin. She held a hand over her chest, coughing softly on her beverage and laughing. "H-hey! You scared me!"
As Blaire jumped, Robin extended his arms, palms out. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry! You alright?"
Blaire let out a tiny giggle, blue eyes meeting his. She felt less jumpy seeing his kind, apologetic face. Her hands instinctively reached out and held his briefly before pulling away. "Yes, I'm alright. Are you having fun? I love your costume! Steven Universe is one of my favorite shows!"
Robin paused when Blaire took his hand, albeit just for a moment. The pair hardly talked much before she had moved cities, let alone touched. It wasn't as though he minded however, it was just different.
He did his best to not let the shock show and he just offered a smile in return before responding. "I am and-- oh, really?"
Blaire's innocent spirit was something that could both charm and confuse others, most of the time she was even unaware of it. Sure, she knew that things from her and Robin's past was messy. No fault of theirs, Lexi had caused a huge strain between them. Regardless, Blaire was having fun in the moment and her playful reflexes had her pining away at the other like a little kid. She just couldn't help but nod excitedly. "Yeah, duh! Anything with crystals and cuteness involved is my favorite... Pearl is definitely my favorite."
Robin stuffed his hands into his pockets and let out a chuckle. "Yeah, yeah, that makes sense, I can see that," he admitted. "I like her too but I also like Lazuli."
"Another great choice! It's just such a wholesome show, I love it!" Blaire beamed, eager to get to talk about one of her interests. It was interesting with Robin. She never realized they shared so much in common because he was with her sister. That suddenly started to make less sense to her, the more the two talked. "I'm glad you decided to dress up. I've never seen you do that before."
"Oh," Robin shrugged at the final comment. He and Lexi had only dressed up a few times. Other Halloween days he had spent working or she had spent partying. Part of him didn't mind since it was just a silly holiday. Another part of him actually liked just goofing off and dressing up. It was just mixed feelings all around. "I don't get the chance to dress up I guess, which by the way, you look great," he found himself admitting.
Blaire ducked her head, guilt pinging at her for bringing up the past again. It was difficult to pull her mind off being Lexi's little sister, but now that they didn't talk she had to be her own person apart from her. "Thanks... you do too. Are you hanging out with anyone here?"
"Thanks," Robin beamed. He then shrugged his shoulders, his fingers suddenly picking at the cord of his necklace. "Not really, just supporting the event really."
Blaire gave a nod, tucking a stray lock of blonde hair behind her ear. "Well if you wanna hang out at our table, you can..."
Robin: "Oh, you don't have to do that. Besides, I don't want to intrude."
Blaire: "I know I don't have to... I want you to sit with us."
Robin paused, his head tilted slightly. "Oh, okay, if you're sure." He felt his chest tighten. It was strange seeing Blaire be so welcoming considering all they had gone through. In the beginning, they hardly spoke, it was all about making Lexi comfortable- which he tried not to think about. He shook it away and sat down, his head in his hand. "By the way, the quartz really made a good touch. I had someone ask where I got it."
"I'm so glad you like it!" Blaire beamed when Robin complimented the rose quartz. "I think it looks good too. Especially the cut of it looks like what Steven would wear around his neck."
"Yeah, I couldn't put it on my stomach. I don't really show off. There wouldn't be a point," Robin joked.
"I don't think it would be very comfortable either," Blaire giggled with innocence. "His gem is like... in his belly button. Or it is his actual belly button. I don't know! It would still be too painful. Necklace was a much better idea."
The pair continued speaking for who knows how long. Robin was almost two drinks in and a bit more chatty because of it. He didn't know how much time had past nor who was up singing the dreadful cover on the karaoke stage-- neither were important. His attention was solely on Blaire. "By the way, who decided on the costumes? I know it was a group decision, but you think of the fairies from Sleeping Beauty and a completely different image comes to mind." That was one way to put it. He'd never seen Sleeping Beauty himself but as most people did, he knew the characters by pictures. He knew how the fairies looked: motherly, frumpy. Blaire looked nothing of the sort, though he doubted that she could've even if she tried... not that he ever thought that before... at least not out loud.
Blaire hiccupped loudly, sipping on one of the final drops of her second wine. She hadn't even realized how she was drinking the beverage as if it was juice, but the conversation was flowing and apparently so was the alcohol. She gave a shrug to his question, "Ummm... I think Sarahi. I said Power Puff Girls and she said fairies sooo... we're fairies!" She let out a high pitched laugh before she tilted her head, blond strands of hair falling to the side as she did. "What image comes to your mind?"
Robin couldn't help but smile at the hiccup, he glanced down at his own nearly empty glass just to compose himself. He was about to shift focus and ask about Sarahi, if only to be polite. The last he'd heard about her, she was helping spread slander about him, though unknowingly. However, when asked the final question of just what he pictured, he felt his face warm ever so slightly. He stepped in it and was not in the right state of mind to finesse his way out of the mess. "Oh well... I just meant that you look so pretty in your costume-- not to say that you're not usually... that..." Smooth.
Blaire ducked her head, blushing softly at the compliment. She never knew how to accept kind words about herself, particularly about her appearance. She just didn't understand attraction, whether physical or aesthetic, fully when it came to people. Still, she knew that it was nice to hear from Robin in the moment. Sometimes compliments would make her uncomfortable, but right now she was not at all. "Thanks," she said with a bright grin. "You do in your costume too... not pretty but handsome... not to say that guys can't be pretty too. Just- gender stereotypes and all, ya know?" she let a nervous laugh slip through her red lips.
Robin didn't expect a compliment back, less so since he was just wearing normal street clothes-- a t-shirt was not really a costume, something his mother would constantly point out back home. He found himself smiling at her words nonetheless. "Well, thank you..." He tried to sound confident, but he ducked his head. "I think it's the necklace, that's what did it."
"I don't think it's just the necklace," Blaire giggled, taking another sip from her wine and grinning sheepishly. The alcohol was certainly boosting her confidence to be so bold, since she had zero flirting skills when there wasn't anything in her system to help her out.
Surely, Robin's face was beet red at that point, though he desperately hoped not. He'd never been great at accepting compliments, less so when they came from people who they weren't expected from. His friends back in New Bern often figured he would have been helpless if his girlfriends-- at the time-- weren't so bold with their feelings. He was just too shy and quiet, even in the platonic sense. Thankfully, the alcohol worked, even if just as a placebo. It gave him enough courage to ask a question that he usually would have thought was ridiculous to even utter. "And... is that something you've thought before?"
Robin's question made Blaire freeze, unsure of how to truly answer. Could she have said she always thought that Robin was cute? Yes... but that would also mean her admitting that she had a crush on her sister's man when they were still on good terms. Did that even matter at this point? After everything Lexi had put her through, she wasn't so sure. Her blue eyes blinked at the male slowly before she nodded once. "Y-yeah...? I think so..."
Well, there was the confirmation. What was he supposed to do with that? Did he feel the same? Yes, it wasn't hard to see that Blaire was attractive... very much so. It was safe to say that he found Blaire attractive. He honestly always thought she was pretty, even when he had been with Lexi. He never did anything or acted or it because one: he was in love with Lexi at the time and while he noticed Blaire, his girlfriend was on his mind. Two: he never really acted on any of those feelings, not first at least. Three: Lexi was her sister. There was something sinister about that attraction, right? Or did it not matter? They no longer were together and he liked Blaire as a person. Lexi turned out to be someone they both seemed to hold in a negative light.
Robin took a breath and after gazing down into his-- basically-- empty glasses, he returned his attention to Blaire. "Well, I always thought you were beautiful."
Blaire's blue eyes widened at the always. It was a huge statement to make, so she couldn't help but feel a hint of doubt. "A-always?" she repeated out loud, as if to make sure she had heard him correctly. Although she wasn't on good terms with her sister anymore, she couldn't deny her beauty and being her younger sister she tended to feel second to her at all times. She couldn't fathom someone even looking her way when they were with Lexi, let alone thinking she was pretty.
Robin already dug himself into a hole, and with the alcohol already in his system, he continued. "Yes, and I know that it's just odd to hear because of well... everything, but despite all of that, yeah." He then shrugged his shoulders. "And talking to you lately and actually getting to know you... I don't know, it made it incredibly more evident." Maybe saying that she was beautiful inside-out was the best way to say that, but he was too flustered to think of the proper words.
Blaire bit her lip as Robin spoke, still wrapping her head around it all as well. She looked at him for a moment, a deep breath releasing itself before she spoke ip again. "Made.. what more evident?" she breathed. As naïve as she was, she was unsure if Robin simply thought she was pretty or if he "like liked" her.
Robin: "Just... you. That you're just a beautiful person in more way than one... I'm sorry if this is a lot, I really am."
Blaire: "It's... it's a lot... y-yeah... but it's really sweet. I think you're a really good person too."
Robin couldn't help but chuckle. "That's a turn of events." He felt it helped lighten the mood, even if it highlighted the more complicated part of what he said: the Lexi of it all.
Blaire managed a tiny grin when Robin laughed, feeling more at ease. Still not less confused, though. "So... wh-what do we do now?"
That question hadn't been asked in so long, at least not by someone who actually sought an answer. It wasn't as though Robin even planned having that conversation, he planned on just keeping all of those thoughts about Blaire to himself. He really needed to lay off the wine then, at least when he wanted to continue hiding just how he felt. Even with the amount he drank he didn't dive fully into what he had noticed about her-- partly because his panicked brain couldn't put together that she was not only gorgeous, but kind, loyal, adorable, smart. He still kept most of that tight lipped.
"That's not a question that gets asked of me that often... what are you thinking?"
Blaire innocently batted her eyes, feeling like a deer in the headlights at the question. It made her uncomfortable to have it all on her, since romance and relationships were not her strong suit. She kept having these sorts of feelings pop up here and there, but she didn't understand what to do with them. With Robin being her sister's ex, there was a whole other layer of complicated. She remained quiet for several seconds before she gave a tiny shrug. "Honestly... I have no idea. I don't know what people do when they have feelings for each other like this..."
Robin nodded his head, understanding just where she was coming from. He let himself be pulled every direction in the past. He knew that he had feelings both in the past and currently, but he let others dictate how he acted on them. He couldn't anymore. He wasn't rash but he didn't want to risk anything with inaction either. Robin reached over, with the slightest hesitation-- if only to give her the chance to pull away, He usually would have second guessed even taking her hand without a sure answer, without the command to, at least not early in a relationship or before one. Despite that, he reached over and with his pinkie and index fingers, he took hers as well, as if the whole hand was too much for now. "We don't have to think that far ahead about it, or even if this is too much, I could stop. I don't know what will happen or if anything actually will after this, but just knowing right now is okay... having everything out in the open."
Blaire watched as Robin linked their fingers together, a soft smile spreading on her face. The touch was gentle and not overwhelming in the slightest, it honestly grounded her as she thought through this moment. As she listened to him, she nodded along. She did feel comforted knowing they could see where things went. It took the pressure off of the moment, and perhaps in the future it would all become clearer to her. "Okay... baby steps then. I can do that."
Robin returned the smile. He finally allowed himself to feel the bliss. "Yeah... yeah me too..." They would just have to worry about the complexities later on.
Dae and Kit (Drive-in Move - October 28th)
Halloween horror movies had been a tradition in the Larusso house since Kit was a kid, so he’d definitely jumped at the chance for a double feature at the drive-in. And maybe he hadn’t entirely thought it through when he packed up his SUV with pillows and blankets, even though the rest of his family was hundreds of miles away — no popcorn fights with Toni, or Caro trying to smother him with a pillow for talking too much.
Which just meant it made sense for Kit to suggest Dae join him when they both ended up at the drive-in for the double feature. He had too much room anyway, right? He’d probably drive Dae nuts before the first movie was even over, but better that than alone with his own thoughts.
Did Dae love horror movies? No, but he was willing to go with Kit for the "plot"... and obviously the snacks. He sat in the passenger's seat with an assortment of candies in his bag, already digging for his sweet and sour worms. He pulled the candies out one by one and tried to organize them in a way that made sense in his head. He had zoned out briefly, tongue sticking out slightly in concentration. He snapped out of it when he realized they were parked in place for the movie. He looked over at Kit and grinned softly. "We made it."
Kit watched Dae organize his snacks with a tiny smile, amused by how serious the task seemed to be. It was Halloween, after all, emphasis should quite rightly be on the "treat" part of "trick or treat", and Dae just looked so very focused. "We made it, no gummy bears harmed in the process. Well, not yet, at least." He jerked one thumb over his shoulder toward the trunk. "There's blankets and pillows if you want to put your seat back, no skimping on the full drive-in experience."
Dae giggled softly, starting to rip open the bag of gummy bears. He popped a green and yellow in his mouth before offering some to Kit. He looked back at the set up and smiled before a small smirk spread across his lips. "I will lay down as long as you do with me..."
Kit took an unholy amount of relish in biting the head off of a red gummy bear before leaning over the center console to grab the blankets. "Duh, of course I will. We might not be able to go full car-blanket fort hybrid without blocking the sightlines of the other cars around us, but this right here is a thing that is definitely happening, it's in the drive-in movie laws."
"Dammit," Dae whined playfully. He grabbed another handful of gummy bears for himself and hummed in satisfaction. "We will make it as cozy as we can." He giggled again and rubbed over Kit's arm.
Kit nudged his elbow against Dae teasingly and settled his own popcorn bucket where they could both reach it. "Listen, I'm a master at blanket forts, I learned from the very best -- but blah blah blah, public courtesy, blah blah. Pillow nests are still mandatory."
Dae giggled softly, starting to move his seat back so he could lay down. He was eager to rest against pillows and blankets, already making grabby hands toward Kit to come closer. He learned the ways of cuddle conviction from his daughter, after all.
The center console was going to be a problem, but Kit just started wedging pillows left and right — with the seats pushed back and reclined they could at least construct a passable nest, and Kit had to laugh at Dae’s determination as they settled in as close to shoulder-to-shoulder as space allowed. “You’re gonna dump gummy worms all down your lap if you’re not careful,” he teased.
Dae laughed aloud, letting out a playful whine. "I don't care about the gummies I want to cuddle," he tried to sound as cute as he could, any way he could convince the other to be close to him.
”You’re so demanding,” Kit laughed, but lifted his arm so Dae could settle against his shoulder to show he was teasing. Movie nights growing up had always turned into a veritable puppy pile anyway, personal space wasn’t the sort of thing Kit had any hang ups about. “You’re going to hide your face in my shirt when anything scary happens, aren’t you? I’m a glorified shield between you and the things that go bump in the night.”
"Wow... I'm glad you finally noticed..." Dae shot back playfully before he continued to bury his head in Kit's shoulder. He knew he should be a bit more smooth about things, but how could he when he had a chance like this? He would definitely use his nerves to his advantage. He nodded to the question and nuzzle closer. "Mhmm! I came for you so you have to protect me!" He huffed before his exasperation turned into a giggle and he traced a line over Kit's chest.
Kit snorted as he wrapped his arm around Dae's shoulders, giving the back of his head a playful little shove in the process. "You know as well as I do the brown dudes always get offed first in these movies. At best I'll buy you some time to make a run for it -- you just have to promise to tell people I still looked hot when they took me out."
Dae closed his eyes and let out a satisfied hum. Being in his arms felt so good, especially after the whole escape room fiasco they just experienced. A little smirk spread across his face as the other spoke, a giggle following. "You always look hot..." He opened his eyes, turning his head to look into Kit's eyes as he said it.
Kit's own eyes had drifted closed as Dae settled in next to him, but he opened them to grin impishly and wink. "Atta boy. Make sure that goes on my headstone, too -- 'Killed by the plot, but always looked hot.' And don't let them put 'Christopher' on there, for god's sake."
Dae gazed at the other and started to giggle, eyes crinkling as he snickered and kept his hands over his chest. "It'd say Kit... of course. Nothing too formal..." He lost his train of thought and then shook his head. "God the stuff you say makes it so much harder not to kiss you..."
Kit blinked at that; every time he started to relax and convince himself Dae had realized whatever this was probably wasn’t a smart choice for him and his daughter, Dae said something like that. And not the way you look, like that was the main thing Kit had going for him — an objective truth he’d long since accepted — but instead the stuff you say. Like he genuinely enjoyed the back-and-forth and Kit’s pigtail-pulling.
“Just testing your impulse control, sweetheart,” Kit said with a bit of a smirk. He gasped dramatically, recovering enough to sidestep his own pesky flare of vulnerability. “Wait, is this parking? Do you have designs on my nonexistent virtue? I’m shocked, Dae, shocked.”
Dae tilted his head at the other. The more Kit talked, the more he wasn't sure if he could kiss or (gently) smack him. He couldn't see how special he was, let alone why he was special to Dae.
As soon as Kit stopped talking, Dae put a finger over his lips and shushed him in playful dramatics. "Do you ever stop... being so endearing and so cute..." He leaned forward as he moved his hands to caress Kit's face with both hands. His thumb pads rubbed over his skin and he moved in to press his nose against his. He was exhaling heavily, hot air on blowing onto Kit's face as a result.
"I don't have impulse control..." he whispered before he closed his eyes and pressed their lips together with a bit of force.
It was right there on the tip of Kit’s tongue: of course he didn’t ever stop, has Dae met him, no off button, etc. — until suddenly there was something else entirely at the tip of his tongue, and oh, he was definitely going to hell for that stray thought.
He honestly didn’t know what he’d been expecting. Kit had been baiting Dae for weeks, pretty much as soon as he realized his flirting actually got a reaction besides amused tolerance. But somehow it was Dae’s hands on his face that unraveled Kit’s entire thought process enough for genuine surprise to creep in.
It also would’ve taken a much stronger man than Kit not to kiss back, or to hide a shaky exhale when they broke apart to catch their breath. “Impulse control is overrated anyway,” he murmured hoarsely, and slid one hand around the back of Dae’s neck to pull him in for another heated kiss.
Dae could feel his heart beat pounding in his neck. He felt like this was a dream, since he couldn't imagine a reality where Kit would want to kiss him as bad as he wanted to kiss him. The flirtatious conversations and the hangouts seemed like something he shouldn't be worthy of from Kit, but this other man was there giving his time to him and he couldn't beat around the bush anymore with how he felt. He wanted Kit more than just a friend to shoot the shit with.
Even more air released from his nostrils when they pulled apart, head spinning from how that felt. Dae hadn't felt that way in so long, he hadn't almost forgotten what it was like to be absolutely smitten for someone. He didn't even have time to meet Kit's smooth reply with a witty one back before their lips crashed together again. A moan escaped when he felt Kit grab his neck, his reflexes tightening his hold on the other's face to pull him in.
When he broke away again, Dae gazed into his eyes and panted through breaths. "Holy... You're so... e-everything... I just need you, babe..." He closed his eyes as he pressed his face against the other's and let his lips meet Kit's again.
The unsteadiness of Dae’s voice burned through some of the haze, enough for Kit to deliberately gentle their kisses into something a little less desperate. They were still in his car, at the drive-in, in public, and especially after the stress of the restroom disaster Kit knew better than to start something they couldn’t finish.
(Plus the rational part of his lizard brain was about to have an aneurysm at him potentially wrecking a friendship he valued a lot more than he let on — one with an actual child involved, and they probably ought to talk about things like expectations and boundaries with actual words instead of just being horny delinquents where literally anyone could see.)
“Jesus, Dae,” Kit murmured, leaning their foreheads together in a rare showing of restraint. “I was kidding about designs on my virtue, my god, man,” he added with a huff of humor and a smile into another fleeting little kiss.
Dae followed Kit's lead in pausing, mainly because he needed the breath. Damn oxygen. He didn't want to stop by any means. He could feel himself getting hot along with the moment, a much different urge below than earlier after drinking too much soda...
He kept it together, Kit's forehead touch calming him. Dae stroked his cheek lightly, sweeter than the hungry way he grabbed him before. He pecked back and grinned blissfully.
"God... I don't wanna say something so cliche and stupid and ruin this..." Dae blurted out with a snort. He could comfortably be himself with the other, which gave him courage to be this bold right now. "You just make me feel all what I haven't in a while... honestly."
With a small laugh, Kit shifted to press a kiss to the center of Dae's forehead before leaning against him once more. "You're not gonna ruin anything," he assured him. "Although if you want to keep petting my face, I'm certainly not going to complain about it." It was such a dumb thing to be affected by, he knew that logically, but maybe he was a little touch starved? Or maybe just vain enough that someone he cared about touching him like he was important went straight to his head?
"Here's what we're gonna do. We're going to watch these movies. You're going to hide your face in my shoulder, and I'm gonna pretend it's not cute as hell. Tomorrow you're going to take Princess Hae-Bluey to Trunk-or-Treat and I'm going to take pictures for you so you can be in them -- assuming you still want me there." There it was, that little flash of nerves at being included in anything significant. Kit crushed it back down ruthlessly. "You two are going to have an awesome Halloween and charm the pants off of everyone who sees you in your matching costumes -- not literally though, pants stay on, I don't want to fight anyone this week. And when things calm down again -- we'll talk."
Dae obliged quickly, keeping a gentle touch on the other man's cheeks. He brushed them with his thumbs and returned the kiss to his forehead. "Yes, sir..." he said with a giddy laugh.
He was still in a haze from the moment they just shared, but he still gave Kit his full attention as he spoke. What he had to say made him breathlessly giggle at parts, including the image of the other becoming hypothetically jealous if someone else saw him without pants. By the end, though, he tilted his head and revealed a concerned yet knowing look.
"Honey..." Dae finally said softly after taking a moment to gather his thoughts. "If you feel more comfortable tabling the conversation for later then I will respect it but I don't want you to do it cause- I understand anxiety and I don't want there to be anything you're feeling that you feel like you have to push down cause it's a holiday or too heavy or whatever. I want you to be able to say how you're feeling. Ever. I'm here for you to listen whenever there is something you need to say... okay? Just know."
Kit's laugh was more than a little strangled this time, and he closed his eyes briefly -- as if that was going to make him feel less exposed. How Dae managed to do that was entirely beyond him -- he was usually so good at masking his anxiety behind flirting and sarcasm, feeding his excess nervous energy into legal briefs or the treadmill until he was too tired to think. Maybe it was because Dae knew the signs to look for himself? Whatever it was, it was suddenly a little terrifying.
"I'm not pushing it down, I promise -- not exactly, I mean," Kit amended. "I wasn't kidding when I told you I don't have any idea what I want, but I know I don't want to screw up so badly it ruins your Halloween or Hae's." His smile was a bit lopsided this time, but his eyes were clear again, thank god. "I guess I'm just trying not to make any assumptions about what you want from me, but I'm also really fucking good at compartmentalizing, especially when I've got work to focus on, so I can wait a few days for things to process."
Dae bit his lip, keeping his hands embracing Kit's face. He listened to the other and did his best to mask his own emotions. He could call it out, but he wouldn't like to take it back. He just assumed the worst the majority of the time, and putting it off for later equated to breaking his heart later in his mind. He inhaled a heavy breath before he managed a soft chuckle and nodded. "
You are good at that..." he agreed. "We can wait then... whatever you think."
Kit's eyes sharpened a little at that, at 'whatever you think' as if he had any clue whatsoever what he was doing, and he threaded one hand around the back of Dae's neck again to catch his eye. "Hey. That's not a no. Not even close. You can keep doing this -- whatever this is -- until we get a chance to sit down and talk about logistics." He quirked one eyebrow at Dae, some of the humor creeping back into his voice. "In fact, I actively encourage you to kiss this face whenever you feel like it. Turns out I'm a big fan of your more impulsive tendencies -- shocker, I know."
Dae only met Kit's eyes when his face was positioned by the other to do so, a deep exhale pushing itself out at the other's hand placement. He leaned into his touch and closed his eyes, taking a more controlled breath and nodding. He opened his eyes to look at him and couldn't help the breathy giggle that escaped. He slowly leaned over then to kiss both of Kit's cheeks, forehead, and nose before kissing his lips. He raised a brow back at him and smiled innocently. "...like that?"
With a faint, fervently muttered "Jesus fuck," Kit leaned in to kiss Dae back hard and fast on the mouth before tearing himself away again. "You're going to be hazardous to my health in so many ways," he lamented, before his expression melted into a smirk. "Also? Intermission between these two movies is going to be fun."
Dae let out a squeaky laugh, nuzzling his nose against Kit's. "I love when you swear, baby... it's so... so so hot," he giggled. He kissed his cheek a couple more times. "I just want to give you cavities, that's all..." he teased. He wiggled his brows, dimple popping when he cheese big. "What do you wanna do during intermission, sweetheart?"
“Probably for the best that I have comprehensive dental, then,” Kit said airily, and started piling blankets around them. “If you can get through 90 minutes of Michael Myers terrorizing Jamie Lee Curtis? I’m pretty sure that calls for a reward, and also one hell of a distraction before a pre-Avengers Chris Hemsworth swoops in to steal your attention, babe.”
"I'm gonna be just peachy cause you're gonna protect me, darling..." Dae teased. He moved to wrap his arms around Kit's middle and squeaked. He gave him a squeeze at the last comment. "Awww no... you are my favorite Avenger, Kit Kat. Your superpower is saving me."
"My superpower is going to be being the only bisexual Latino with a law degree to survive until the end credits, because I am now properly motivated to make it to this intermission," Kit announced stubbornly. He finished fussing with the blankets and grinned down at Dae tucked against his side. "Comfy, are we?"
"You're too lovely to be banished off..." Dae reassured with a giggle before he rested his head on the other's chest. He was fully intending on burying his head any moment the movie became too intense or gory. He didn't mind since he would get to cuddle, and claim his prize at intermission. To Kit's question, he gazed up at him and batted his eyelashes sweetly. "Very much so, sweetheart."
Becks and Marshall (Drive-in Movie - October 28th)
Marshall was waiting in line to get some popcorn. After all, what was a movie without popcorn? "Wouldya look at that? They have cheese flavor now. Last time I was here their butter machine was broken and all they had was burnt kettle corn. But maybe they'll have the kind with the white chocolate drizzle this time," he said, looking over at the person next to him.
Becks' head snapped up in surprise at that, his eyes going straight to the menu board. "Wait, do they really? Somebody's getting fancy, all bets are off if we're talking white chocolate drizzle," he chuckled. Most of his attention had been on his phone and he hadn't registered the menu upgrades at all, but he grinned back and bounced slightly on his toes and craned his neck to get a better look. "Is it white cheddar? I can't be held responsible for my actions if they've got a halfway decent white cheddar popcorn, decency laws may be broken."
“I think so?” Marshall chuckled softly. “I’d hope so, though. Isn’t fancy popcorn like a thing now?” He asked with a shrug. “Is that a yay-white chocolate or nay-white chocolate?” Marshall chuckled. He stepped closer to take a better look at the menu. “I see white cheddar!” He grinned.
"I'm clearly behind on my trendy snacks watch, but if it is, I'm on board," Becks grinned. "That's definitely a yay-white chocolate, but a slightly bigger yay-white cheddar -- I'm feeling savory more than sweet, right this second." The menu confirmation earned a victorious little fist pump, and Becks laughed. "Man, I was fully prepared for too much salt and maybe greasy fake butter topping, they're already exceeding expectations -- I'll have to reserve judgment for the beverage selections, though."
Blaire, Jordyn, and Sarahi (Drive-in Movie - October 28th)
Blaire loved some aspects of Halloween, after all her crystal shop made her feel in alignment with magic and witches, but the creepy stuff was not her thing. She loved to dress up, but the murder mystery was a no-go. She did decide to check out the drive-in since it sounded cute. Praying for a Hocus Pocus viewing, she got her popcorn in a Halloween bucket and beamed. "I love cute popcorn buckets! They are so fun, I'm definitely not throwing this away."
Sarahi leaned back against the counter as she waited for her pretzel. "I feel like we already have like... six... or am I just hallucinating?"
"Well... they might become like, collector's items some day..." Blaire giggled. She munched on a handful of popcorn and glanced around. "Do you know what movie they're showing?"
Sarahi rolled her eyes, though a loving smile remained on her lips. "Halloween. I'm sure you're going to watch between your fingers. But I've heard the second movie they're airing is a bit more funny."
"Ohhh, like the movie is called Halloween? I thought the poster just meant like... they're gonna play a Halloween movie," Blaire admitted sheepishly. "I hope that one is Disney Channel approved..."
Sarahi: "...You know which movie is Halloween... right?"
Blaire: "... Is that the one with Jason?"
Sarahi: "Mike Myers."
Blaire: "I love him in Shrek!"
The vendor passed Sarahi her pretzel just as she sighed and grumbled, "You poor baby."
Jordyn looked over at the other girls. “I think that the best thing I heard all night,” she said, sipping on her cherry cola.
Sarahi turned to Jordyn and offered a polite and friendly smile. "I'm babysitting."
Blaire shoved Sarahi's arm and huffed, "Says you! I'm older than you, remember?!"
With a playful roll of her eyes, Sarahi turned to face Jordyn again. "So, you ready for the blood spillage?"
Jordyn grinned. “Heck yes!” She laughed, clapping her hands.
Sarahi: "So, unlike some people, you aren't afraid of fake blood."
Escape Room Prank (Drive-In Movie - October 28th)
The drive-in movie double feature will be starting soon! There was a lot of excitement as they recently remodeled and built a new building for the kitchen, projectors, and bathrooms. The old building was still up though. With that in mind, four of the staff members snickered with each other as they quietly came up with a mischievous plan together and ran over everything in their heads...
All someone had to do was ask for the restrooms. If they asked where the restrooms were, they would be led to the old building and told that the restrooms in the new building don't work yet and that they can use the employee restrooms down the hall from the entrance. The door wouldn't be unlocked until a line formed. Then the employee with the key will open the door for the group and watch as they walk far enough from the door to close it— locking them inside.
It is all a game to the employees.
The cell service was quite terrible in that building so they knew that calls and messages hardly went through. And with all the doors were locked, the group would have to find a new way to get out. Too bad the windows were already boarded shut.. Would they find the one way out?
Eli's foot tapped as he waited for the door to the building to open. How long did it take for someone to find a key?
Kit’s brow furrowed as he peered into the abandoned drive-in building, frowning slightly from where he hovered behind Eli. “They did say this is the line for the restroom, I didn’t hallucinate that, right?” he said doubtfully, and eyed the locked door. “Props for gender-neutral facilities, I guess, but points deducted for general inconvenience.”
“Okay, so we have to form a line for the restrooms to be accessed? Seems a little off to me,” Marshall said.
As much as Dae didn't want to move from his comfy spot in Kit's car, he knew the rest of the night would not be fun unless he found a bathroom. He followed the other to where they thought the restrooms were, but groaned when they came to a hault behind Eli and swayed back and forth. "Uhhh... can we please form a line then...?"
Arenza sighed as she gave into the inevitable disappointment of leaving the car to use the restroom, that disappointment only grew more as she came to find that the bathrooms in the building were off limits and was given directions to the “old building”. Upon heading over there, she blinked to see others in front of the door. “Is the bathroom really this held back?” She asked, coming up behind Dae, glancing up at him and then the others.
Robin hurried toward the line and motioned further back. "I told one of the workers that the line's getting really long, hopefully they get this open."
An employee hurried by, waving the key to those in line. "Sorry, I'm here!" Without hesitation, he unlocked the door and motioned to the lit hall. "The last door straight ahead."
Dae perked his head up at the sound of an unfamiliar person declare their entrance. He let out a sigh of relief and started to pull Kit along beside him. "Bless... is this just a one room situation? If it is, ya'l in front of me please hurry..."
“Okay, thanks, yeah, I think we all are on the same page here,” Marshall said as the employee let them in.
Kit gave Dae's shoulder an encouraging rub before shifting to put him in front of himself as they moved down the hallway. "Hopefully it's more than one, but if it's not, you need it more than I do." He glanced over his shoulder with a lopsided smile for the rest of them. "I can wait, if any of y'all are in the same boat as Dae."
Dae exhaled as Kit rubbed his shoulder, trying to relax even though it got more difficult with every step. He groaned, one hand clutching the other man tightly while his free hand turned to a fist at his side. "Thanks, babe... ugh dammit... I shouldn't have downed my soda already I gotta pee so bad." He sighed to himself as he continued to walk on what seemed to be the longest ever.
Once everyone had passed through and were clear down the hall, the employee calmly closed and locked the door, a devious smirk for only themselves.
Robin turned toward the door that had closed, brow quirked. "Um… they're not going to make sure we leave?"
Dae was too distracted by his bladder's pending doom to realize they were locked in the building. He was just grateful he was able to get to the bathroom , not much convincing needed for his friends to make sure he was at the front of the line. He walked out of the restroom in much better spirits, just waiting for his friends to finish up as well. Still unaware there was not a current way out of the building.
Eli watched-- a bit impatiently-- as Dae walked out toward the doors. "Try not to drink too much soda again."
Dae looked up toward where some of his friends still waited for the bathroom, shrugging dramatically. "I hate to break it to you but I will have to pee again... before the second movie I'm sure."
Robin was next in line and finished up, he passed Dae and went to open the door for his friend. One push, nothing. He pushed again. "What....?"
Arenza was relieved when they were allowed into the building, stepping inside and wrapping her arms around her waist as something immediately felt off about this as she followed the others through to the line of the restroom—which annoyingly so was just a single bathroom. Fun. She waited her turn patiently and entered when it was her time to. When she finished, she stepped out and blinked to see that the “boys” were still in the building. She tipped her head in a studious manner and stepped up to stand a bit behind them. “Do you need help?” She mused lightly.
Dae grinned to Robin, waiting for him to get the door. He was putting his phone in his pocket, confused when he looked up and saw the door still shut. He overheard Aren and snorted to himself. "Yeah girl, he needs you to use the force and open the door."
Arenza glanced towards her friend and made a soft, dragged out, ha-ha and a playful roll of her eyes. “I would if I could, Dae.” She said with a small laugh before moving to the door. “But still, the door isn’t budging?” She asked, looking between the door and Robin with a slight frown.
Having hung back to be one of the last to take a turn in the restroom, Kit finally emerged to find everyone else clustered around the exit door. "Not budging?" he echoed, eyebrows lifting as he overheard the confusion. "They unlocked it to let us in -- they didn't forget to leave it unlocked so it wouldn't latch behind us, did they?"
Dae had been laughing earlier, but when each person was having the same result at the door the less funny it became. He slowly walked up and made his own attempt at pulling the door open, which ended up being just as unsuccessful. When he let go of the door handle, his hand began to tremble. "Wh-what? No..."
Eli suddenly forgot all about the bathroom when he heard the commotion. He turned back toward the entrance. His eyes narrowed toward the group, head tilted. "Um... I really hope that this is some sort of case of the door just being a bit too heavy, because I don't think any of us would like to be kidnapped."
Dae's heart sunk into his stomach at Eli's words, slowly stepping back and watching the rest of the group. He let out a gasp, though by hanging back he hoped he could hide that he was becoming anxious about the situation.
"No, that's..." Robin shook his head. The irrational part of him wanted to shake or try to break down the door, but the rational side-- which was getting a lot quieter, just said to call for help. He reached in his pocket and dialed the first number he could, but- "I can't get service..."
Kit fell back with Dae, wrapping one arm around his shoulders reflexively. "It has to be an accident, right? I really doubt the drive-in company's risking a lawsuit for endangerment or negligence when they've just finished renovating the place, there's got to be another exit if this one's stuck."
Dae felt his breaths growing heavier, body naturally weakening and leaning into Kit when he held him close. He closed his eyes for a moment and listened to his words, nodding once and exhaling through his mouth. "Y-you're... y-yeah probably... right..." his words stammered but it was still hard to argue with a lawyer.
Eli: "Okay, are we going to just stand here and look at a locked door or are we going to try and do something about this?"

Marshall Bonnet was born the youngest of two to a nurse and a restaurant owner. Things were pretty normal for his childhood, for the most part. There wasn’t much that was unusual. The kids did sports, went to school, helped out at the restaurant when they were old enough. Tourism did wonders for a small family-owned restaurant.
High school came along for Marshall and the family moved to Milpitas to be closer to his mother’s side of the family. It was a hard move, but he eventually settled into California life.
Marshall got his GED at his local community college before and becoming a certified paramedic. A couple of years later, he was transferred to San Francisco. Now living in Azure Heights, he’s enjoying the cooler weather and challenges of his job.

biography
Christopher Larusso was born into a large blended family in southern California, the youngest of five kids and only boy. His four older sisters by turns spoiled him rotten and bullied him shamelessly, nicknaming him ‘Kit’ before he could even walk, and with their influence plus a firecracker Latina mother, he was used to being surrounded by strong-willed women from a very young age. His parents divorced when he was young, and despite regular contact with his father, Kit found himself in the bizarre position of being both the baby of the family and the man of the house, especially as he got older and took on more responsibility.
By the time he finished undergrad at UC-Irvine, all but one of his sisters had gotten married and started families, but it was watching his oldest sister’s messy divorce and custody battle that ultimately decided Kit’s concentration in law school. He’d been leaning toward immigration law, but chose to focus on family law since he was a child of divorce himself, and he’d gotten very good at being a family mediator in his own right. He still ended up getting assigned to quite a few cases with immigration complications and a number of international adoptions anyway, by virtue of being fluent in Spanish.
Moving to San Francisco wasn’t in his ten-year plan, but he was scouted by a headhunter not long after passing the bar with a job offer he’d have been insane to turn down. Kit finds himself handling more prenups, divorces, and custody battles for the Silver Point elites than he might prefer, and he probably knows more than attorney-client privilege will ever let him acknowledge, but taking on a few lower profile cases pro bono or through legal aid helps him sleep at night.

Jordyn & Nathaniel
Nate had just gotten done with work and decided to go check out what the town was buzzing about this bonfire. He grabbed a couple tall boys from the gas station tossing them in the cooler bag and he headed down to the meeting area. He found a seat and cracked open a bottle. He chatted with a few people he had met through work.
Jordyn was still getting to know people in the neighborhood. The bonfire seemed like a good place to start. She went to grab a drink for herself. Her head turned. “Hi…” she said slowly. “You’re umm… you fixed up my car transmission, right?” She wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty and do it on her own but being crunched on time, she decided to just bring it to the shop.
He smiled and reached his hand out for hers. “Yeah, I’m Nate, it was Jordyn Right?” He asked smiling as he looked the girl over. He had had much of a chance the day at the shop. He had quickly taken payment and given her the keys back.
Jordyn smiled and shook his hand. “That’s right,” she laughed a little. “Nice to meet you Nate. Well, again,” she laughed. “Care if I join you?” The blonde asked.
Nate smiled at the girl. “No please do, I just got here and have been trying to figure out what direction I wanted to go” he says smiling moving over slightly for the girl.
“Well, there are drinks, I think there’s the ghost hunt in a few hours…” Jordyn said, taking the spot next to Nate. “And of course s’mores,” she nodded , holding her hands up to warm them by the fire.
Nate lifted up his cooler that had a few drinks inside. “I came prepared” he says smirking as he offered her a beer. “Are you going ghost hunting?” He asked leaning back a little bit on the log they were sitting on.
“But of course,” Jordyn laughed. “Thank you,” she said softly. “Of course!” She gave him a big grin. “Gotta get the full experience of the bonfire, no?”
Nate smiled and set the cooler back down. "I guess soo, as long as you don't get spooked to easily." he says smirking as he nudged his shoulder into the girl playfully. "So aside from ghost hunting what do you do for fun? You're a teacher right?" I thought I remembered that I grabbed your car from the school?" He asks.
Jordyn laughed softly. “Don’t worry, I don’t scare easily. I don’t think anything is scarier than day-old gym socks… except maybe week-old gym socks. Definitely scarier than ghosts,” she teased. She nodded. “Yeah, I’m a teacher,” Jordyn smiled. “Drinking coffee and checking out what is new that doesn’t involve cartoons or pony beads. Does that count?”
Nate nods his head “yes that definitely counts” he says smiling as he takes a drink of his beer. “One time I found a month old gym sock in a car I was working on.” He says eyes wide. “It took so much effort for me to leave it in there” he says gagging at the thought.
Jordyn took a small sip and smiled. She leaned back with her hand resting on the edge of the log. “Eww,” she wrinkled her nose at the thought. “Did you ever get rid of it?” She asked with a laugh.
Nate shook his head “wasn’t in my car” he says cringing. “Took everything in me not to but I’ll spare you the details but it wasn’t coming out easily” he says softly looking at the girl. “What’s it like teaching? I can’t imagine” he says smiling
“Ah,” Jordyn nodded and chuckled. “That’s umm… lovely,” she laughed awkwardly and sipped her drink again.“Oh… it’s fun, you get to spend your days with kids, and can be pretty unpredictable at times. So the days really are never dull!”
Nate chuckled “I would trade you jobs for a day, but I’m sure by noon I’d be begging to trade back” he teases as he was trying to recover from the awkward gym sock conversation. What ghosts do you think we are going to encounter tonight?” He asked smiling as he looked up at the stars.
“Oh yeah?” Jordyn smirked. “Well you might be right,” she chuckled. She pursed her lips together. “Nice ones, I hope,” Jordyn giggled. “Not ones that are vengeful or something like that.”
Nate chuckled “I’ll be honest I’ve never done the ghost hunting thing aside from when I was a kid we had an old one room school house on our property and I swore it was haunted I would spend hours out there playing with “the kids” it would drive my aunt crazy. So it will be a new experience for me.” He says smirking as he looked at the girl. Perhaps for the first time truthfully. He smiled at her purses lips. She was beautiful sitting next to him in the star lightly.
Jordyn grinned. “I’ve never officially gone ghost hunting… like what they do with all the fancy machines. But I watch a video of the Winchester House night tour… and I’ve also watched enough episodes of Ghost Adventures to know how not to make a ghost angry. Of course, we were all drinking at the time and betting on how soon Mr. Bagans could piss off a ghost…” she laughed. “So I’m pretty stoked,” she said before downing the rest of her beer.
Nate chuckled and grabbed another beer out for the both of them. “For you darling” he says smiling as he cracks his open. “This should definitely be interesting to say the least” he says chuckling. “Don’t worry I’ll protect you from any angry ghosts” he says playfully puffing up his chest.
“Darling, huh?” Jordyn grinned, taking the bottle and lifting it in toast before taking a sip. She laughed a little at his antics. “Oh, my hero!” She grinned at him.
Nate smirked as she played along. He nudged into her again. “All in a days work” he says playfully as he put his arm over the back of the Bench they were sitting on together.
“Is that what you moonlight as, then? Mechanic by day, ghostbuster by night?” Jordyn teased.
Nate chuckled “damnit you caught me” he says moving just a touch closer to the girl. “I only took on being a mechanic and fire fighter for a cover up. What do you say you snd I got back to the mystery machine after this” he says with a playful wink.
“I’m very perceptive,” Jordyn said with a laugh. “Oh, so you’re a Jack of all trades. All you need to do is to rescue a cat out of a tree,” she said. She watched him closely and hummed. “I’ll give you a maybe, on that one,” she smirked. “Catch me a ghost first,” she grinned.
Nate smirks. "Sounds good, I will do just that" he smirks as he looked into the girls eyes. "Let me just call up my good buddy Egon…He will point me in the right direction of the ghosts around here" He says smirking. He lowered his arm on the back of th chiar just a little.
Jordyn wrinkled her nose with a louder laugh, hiding her mouth behind her hand. “Oh my god… what if he’s the Stay Puft Man?” She couldn’t help but giggle harder. “We should go explore!”
“But he’s my favorite” Nate says smiling at the girls laugh. She had a nice laugh. He stood up and reached out his hand “let’s go” he says smiling as waits for the girl. “I have Egon on speed dial on my hand dandy cellular device” he says smirking. He wrapped his arm around her as they began to wonder around the beach.
“I’ll be sure to put in a good word for you if we run into him,” Jordyn said. She hopped up onto her feet and took a look around the area. The blonde smirked up at him. “Are you scared?” She teased. “Want a Scooby Snack?”
Eli, Jake, Becks, Jordyn, & Billie
Eli didn't really want to be at the bonfire, but the talk around town was that vendors were gonna bring food. Plus, the idea of seeing people go off to find fake ghosts was intriguing as well-- which was why he dragged his brother along to sit with him to watch as people began to set up the fire.
Jake was open to new experiences in his new town, however… the idea of ghost hunting was a little out of his league. He was military brave but not spooky things brave. They were different, and he could explain. He was still getting to know people he had met on short visits, so at this big event he stayed close to his younger brother. "I can't wait for the smores… I can't remember the last time I had one!"
Becks was nothing if not predictable. He probably surprised absolutely no one by arriving to the evening’s festivities with an acoustic guitar case slung over his back and a cooler in one hand with three cardboard travel boxes of coffee from Coda. (He’d have brought wine, but carding folks just didn’t seem like the neighborly thing to do, so iced mocha, hot dark roast, and decaf would just have to do instead). By his own logic he was getting out of the bar for an evening, so it wasn’t technically work, and after being laid up sick for the better part of a week and a half, he needed socialization more than anything else — he was a rotten patient when he was sick, and being stuck with only himself for company just meant he got on his own nerves more than anything. Becks flashed an easy smile and a wave at the others who had already arrived — he recognized Eli and Jake, at least — before slinging the guitar case and cooler off his shoulders. “Coffee works as an entrance fee, right? And an apology in advance for subjecting people to my music habit?”
Jake turned his head when he heard a familiar voice, heart shaped lips creeping up into a smile when he looked to him. "Yo… yeah that's perfect!" He let out a giggle. "If the coffee is as good as I remember it'll go great with a smore! How've you been?"
Becks groaned as he pulled out the coffee crates one by one and set them up, along with a sleeve of to-go cups and lids. “Oh man, you had me at s’mores. Best part of a bonfire, hands down.” He grinned as he offered the tower of stacked cups toward both brothers. “I’m no longer hacking up a lung when I try to take a deep breath, and fever-free all week, so I can’t complain. You’re back for good, I hear?”
Eli watched as Becks appeared and sat up, eyes on the guitar case. "Well, we both know that I am no stranger to accepting coffee as valid payment for anything," he admitted. He then turned, brows knitted together. "Where are the smores? I know it's pretty early but I'm going to need my marshmallow goodness."
“Did someone say coffee?” Jordyn asked, seating herself down and adjusting her glasses. “I can see the Graham crackers…” she squinted to a small box across from her.
"I see a saint arrived, or an angel from my prayers," Eli joked to the stranger.
Jake glanced in the same direction as his brother and chu ckled, "I'm gonna get so buzzed from coffee this late but it sounds good! I want to dip the smore inside…"
Becks tapped on the last carton pointedly, casting a wink over one shoulder. “That’s what the decaf is for,” he chuckled, and gestured to the other cartons as well. “There’s hot and iced, too, should be something for everyone — although now I’m realizing I should have brought hot chocolate for the non-coffee drinkers and kids, it’d go better with the s’mores,” Becks added with a guilty look. He stepped away so anyone could help themselves if they wanted, and settled into a spot near Jordyn to unpack his guitar so he could tune it properly.
Jordyn gave a giant grin, tapping her fingers on her knees. “Hot chocolate?” She perked up a little bit. “Mix it with some espresso and you have a mocha!” She said happily. “Also if there are marshmallows, double duty. For the s’mores and for the drinks.”
Jake perked his head up and asked aloud, "Hot chocolate?! Is that just for the kids or…?" His eyes were wide and hopeful, knowing he would enjoy that much more than the coffee.
Billie arrived, homemade brownies in a container. "Now I'm thinking this is too many sweets."
Jordyn & Eli
Jordyn rubbed her hands together. She was still getting used to the weather, even if she really did like how different it was from Vegas or New York. There was a cloud of fog (totally not unusual on a Bay Area summer night) and she tugged her hoodie down further. It felt like a perfect time for a steaming hot cup of Joe. “Coffee?” she looked over at the person close to her.
Eli sat quietly, eyes on the flames that had finally begun. He had decided to attend the bonfire mainly for the promised food and watching people make a fool of themselves ghosthunting. The sudden offers of coffee was another reason to stick around. Eli sat up and faced the blonde, his brows perched. "Oh, sure, thanks."
“You’re welcome.” Jordyn smiled at him. “I’m Jordyn, by the way,” she said, handing over the cup. “So, is this like, a yearly thing or something?” She asked curiously, glancing around at the bonfire attendees.
Eli held up his new cup. "Eli." He scoffed and shook his head. "No, they either do something every summer or scramble. This is the first bonfire," he explained before pressing the cup against his lips. "It'll add engagement in the community… or some other buzz word."
“Lovely to meet you,” Jordyn grinned. “Mmm,” she nodded in thought. “So something to bring the community together, huh? And what better way to do that than to search for the spooks, huh?” She chuckled, taking a sip of her drink. “So what is it you do?”
Eli hummed just before taking a sip of the much welcomed coffee. "I'm pretty sure they didn't plan the spooks, but who are we to stop a good time and delusions?" He joked. When the question of what he did came up, Eli paused and smacked his lips. "I work for the Prescotts. Sold my soul and all."
“That’s the fun of it all, isn’t it?” Jordyn nodded slowly. She knew that people liked to chase after impossible things to, well, prove them to be possible. That was pretty much the appeal. She grinned. “Oh? Is that something I should be wary about?”
"Depends on what worries you. I mean, no one likes landlords," Eli grumbled.
Jordyn smiled a little. “True, I’ve seen RENT, no one wants to be ‘that guy’,” she joked, using air quotes with a chuckle. “Do you think there are actual ghosts out here though?”
Eli eyed the line of trees that led into the forest. He heard the legends, how the elderly woman who supposedly lived in the now abandoned cabin had died there alone. He also heard that some kids had played where they shouldn't have and suffered the consequences. "People hear voices, but this is a public park."
Jordyn looked over in the direction that Eli was looking. “Mmm…” she hummed quietly. “I guess that means we have to determine if those voices are from the living or the not so much.” She said with a nod, curiosity piqued.
"Maybe something in between," Eli suggested with a smirk.
Minsu & Cireya
Minsu felt some butterflies in their stomach, but already they felt pretty comfortable to be in Azure Heights with their now not-so-long distance friend. They had thrown on a crop top with a flannel tied around their waist, along with some combat boots and ripped up jeans. It felt nice to dress like a regular person versus all done up for premieres and events. As they approached the bonfire, Minsu looked over to Rey. "Is this like movies?… We sit and roast marshmallow?"
Cireya smiled nodded her head “yes just like the movies” she smiled even bigger. She was so excited to have her friend who she’d only dream of meeting with her. She wrapped her arm around theirs as she practically bounced down the beach towards the large fire pit.
Minsu let out a giggle, freezing a bit when Rey wrapped her arm around them. They relaxed after a moment, accepting the physical touch from someone they weren't filming with. It was a rare occasion, so they didn't always know how to react. "I never make smore… you show me," they admitted, followed by an innocent smile.
Dae & Frankie
After eating several s'mores, honestly losing count after the second, Dae decided to pause and go find his best friend. He was approaching the other, to hang out and also use as a mirror to make sure he wasn't wearing any extra marshmallow or chocolate anywhere on his face, though when he saw the other with his girlfriend he ducked his head. He could remember Trey trying to reassure him of Frankie's intentions in the groupchat, but he still felt anxiety flutter in his chest. He turned on his heels to attempt to swiftly scurry off, but he ended up tripping over what he expected to be some kind of rock and nearly ate it. He gasped as he caught himself from taking too hard of a fall, huffing as he tried to brush off his hands and clothes.
Frankie had been walking along and hummung to herself when she saw Dae fall. "Oh shit, Dae, are you alright?" She asked and rushed over to him. "Are you hurt?"
Dae felt himself tremble slightly, but managed to get himself up and continue to brush over himself. He hadn't noticed at first who had come to his rescue, so he just muttered an: "I-I'm okay, yeah… just tripped. I'm glad I didn't fall on my knee…" he huffed as he bent down slightly just to get a glance at his knee he had injured in the past and was relieved he didn't land on it. He then looked to meet Frankie's glance and bit his lip, head gazing back down.
"Hey, are you sure you're alright?" Frankie asked. She looked at Dae. "If you want, I can get Trey and he can carry you back to his place or something." She offered
Dae nodded again once after a pause, "Mm… I'm sure. Just wasn't looking where I was going…" He frowned, unsure of what to do next. He could hear Trey at the back of his mind telling him he should speak up about his feelings, but he still hesitated. He stood in silence for several seconds before he mustered up some courage. "You don't have to get him…" he bit his lip. "B-but… can I talk to you for a sec?"
Frankie nodded. "Of course, is everything alright?" She asked. She was unware of how she had made Dae feel the other night in the group chat
"Like… alone?" Dae asked, tilting his head away from the gathering around the bonfire and to an empty space nearby. he stuffed his hands in his pockets and glanced down at the ground, kicking a couple of tiny rocks before he managed to meet Frankie's eye. While he spoke, though, his gaze focused off to the side of her to avoid the direct eye contact. "Uh… well… the other day when we were talking in the groupchat and you made that comment about me not being like, a 'saint' or 'pure'… cause I have a kid…" He exhaled, biting his lip so he wouldn't get too worked up about it. "I… that really made me uncomfortable…"
"Lead the way." Frankie said and followed him to where he wanted to go and she bit her lip when she heard the last bit. "Oh shit, I am so sorry Dae. That was not my intention at all."
Dae bit his lip harder, flashbacks surrounding those sort of words and labels thrown at him cutting deep. He gave a quick nod, "I just… I didn't know. When we- my ex and me… found out she was pregnant I just heard stuff like that a lot… blame was mostly put on me for it by like her family and friends and stuff… like I felt like I was some sort of gross and awful person and I just… when I hear that kinda stuff I feel like that and I hate…" He exhaled heavily through his notrils, blinking quickly to attempt to push the tears back. A stray one or two did work against him and managed to roll down.
Frankie hugged Dae and rubbed his back. "I am so sorry Dae, that was seriously not how I ment to make you feel." She let go of him. "People can be cruel and whoever was a shithead to you and your ex, are pieces of shit."
Dae stood still for a moment, though he wrapped an arm around Frankie after a moment. He breathed heavily again and pulled back. "Yeah… I don't wanna get into it cause it does suck… but I just don't deal with jokes and shit like that. It's been genuine when I've heard it a lot and so now I never really know. I guess it was to be a joke or whatever but to me it's not a joke."
“No, I am so glad you did and I will seriously keep this in mind and think about what I say before I send it or say it.” Frankie said to him and smiled. “Just know I’d never do anything to intentionally hurt you. I like you and you mean a lot to me.”
Dae managed a soft exhale in relief, nodding. "Okay.. thanks," he replied. He could feel a teardrop roll off his chin and he quickly brushed ir away with the back of his hand. "Shit… sorry."
"Oh don't cry Dae." Frankie pouted and hugged him again. "I'm sorry." She apologized and rubbed his back. "I'm a safe person to talk to about anything you know." She promised.
Leaning forward, Dae returned the hug more genuinely this time and let out a sigh. He closed his eyes and rested against Frankie, sniffling and swallowing thickly. It felt like a weight off his chest anytime he expressed heavy feelings like this. He pulled away when Frankie stopped rubbing his back and wiping under his eyes once more. "Thank you… I appreciate that… it's not easy but it's nice you said that… fuck…" He let out a low laugh after taking another swipe under his eyes. "Anyways…" he snorted.
“Anyways, I can tell you how Trey is lately, though you probably know just as much as I do about him," Frankie said.
Dae playfully smirked and crossed his arms, "I mean… I probably know more about him than you, hon… not like that kinda stuff but yknow… him as a person. How's it going though?"
“So you’re the one I go to about knowing him better huh?” Frankie teased with a laugh. She looked at him. “It’s going well. I really like him a lot.”
"Yeah… anything you wanna know, I got you," Dae laughed. "Real bestie behavior. I'm glad you do… are yall like the 'it' couple at work?"
"You know, we still don't actually have a label." Frankie admitted with a laugh. "I need to ask him about that, but if he did ask me out to be my girlfriend, I woudn't hesitate to say yes."
Dae tilted his head, "He hasn't asked you to be his girlfriend yet?"
"No." Frankie shook her head. "Has he told you he has?"
"No… I was just curious," Dae said and bit his lip, remembering Trey tell him that Frankie wanted to be low key. He decided to pry. " Would you wanna be his girlfriend?"
"I would, yeah." Frankie said with a smile. "He's really great and like him a lot."
"He is," Dae agreed with a grin. "Then you'd wanna be that cute it couple at work?"
"Yes and do all the cute couple shit that couples do." Frankie laughed.
"I know Trey will love that," Dae mused. "He really deserves this… he's been hurt before and he has a lot to offer. I know he just wants to treat you well."
“He treats me the best I’ve ever been treated. I really enjoy being with him you know? Hopefully we can be official soon," Frankie said.
"I'm happy for you both," Dae told with a grin. "Sorry I kinda bugged out and wasn't sure your intentions again… I've just been pretty burned a lot in the past and sometimes I just get too much inside my own head… I am trying to get better at communicating. It's just a process."
Dae & Jordyn
Dae was mingling among friends at the bonfire before he went off to sit by the fire alone briefly to check in home to see how his daughter was doing. He remained in his chair he brought from home, stuffing his phone in his pocket before he stared ahead at the open flames in front of him, sipping on his beer and debating in his head if he would go up to make yet another s'more. He wasn't expecting anyone to approach him, but he still waited in place for a while anyway.
Jordyn loved the San Francisco afternoon chill. For some reason, to her, it was somewhat relaxing. Even in the summer, it was cold but it was still nice because it didn’t slow anyone down. Deciding to help herself to another beer, she waved to Dae. “Hey…”
Dae finished off his current beer and rested back against the chair, letting out a heavy exhale as he ran a hand through his hair. His head turned toward Jordyn's voice and he bit his lip, nodding once in her direction. "Hi…"
Jordyn bit her lip and played with her hair. “How’re you?” She asked, dipping her head to the side. “I think I should apologize if I made things weird and icky the other day,” she offered a small smile.
Dae shot a glance back up at her, fidgeting with his empty beer bottle. He shrugged at first to her question. "I'm alright… you?" He wasn't sure why she had approached him at first, but was taken aback with surprise when she began to apologize. "O-oh… yeah," he mumbled softly. "Yeah, to be honest… I just get triggered by jokes like that and it kinda felt like ya'll were ganging up on me in the chat. Like laughing at me, really…"
Tapping her nails on the bottle, she nodded, listening to him. “It’s been a long week, but can’t really complain,” she said. Jordyn licked over her lips. “I just kinda saw it as playful joking. I didn’t mean to make you feel bad,” she said, looking at him. “I hope we can start over again?”
Dae's eyes stared ahead at the bonfire, nodding slightly. "Mm… I guess I should've said something… I just panicked and dipped. I tend to do that when a situations too much," he explained. He paused for a moment and tilted his head. "Yeah… I mean, just as long as you get that shits not cool with me. Cause I'm proud of being a dad, even if I'm young and single. It's my best accomplishment and nobody's gonna make me feel bad about it anymore."
“Maybe just a bit,” Jordyn said with a wink. “I always tell the kids to say something if something doesn’t feel right. But it’s okay. You know, text messages can be tricky,” she smiled. “I am and I get it. Trust me. I get it. My mom became a single mom later on in life but she fought for us like no one’s business. So, frankly, you’re doing good,” she nodded. “I promise.”
Dae exhaled heavily, shaking his hands out his sides when he felt them trembling. "Yeah… it's just hard sometimes in the moment. I didn't wanna be there when I felt like that…" He listened to her talk about her mom and managed a small grin. "My eomma did for me too… I do my best to be like her. I'm not perfect but I try…"
Jordyn nodded in understanding. “But I’m also glad you stepped away from something that didn’t make you feel good,” she assured him. “It takes time to get the right words out sometimes,” she said, and smiled again. “That’s the best we can do, right? Try?” She said, and raised her bottle up in a toast.
Dae blinked as he listened to the other, grateful she was understanding his point of view. "Thanks… I do tend to shut down at times but it helps to have time to reflect instead of say something I regret I guess." He was about to raise his bottle before he remembered it was empty. "If I'm gonna toast you I gotta do it right… I need a new one." He would say before he went to get one and then return to clink the bottles together. "To trying…" he agreed.
“You’re welcome,” Jordyn said. She knew that she had to say something to hopefully resolve the misunderstanding. It was something she had become good at. Plus, they were becoming friends. “Cheers to that,” she clinked their bottles together before taking a sip. “So, you gonna go ghost hunting later?”
Dae grinned and took a long sip of his new beer, sighing afterward. "Mm… thanks for coming over to apologize. I appreciate that," he said softly. He smirked after and looked at his bottle. "I think I'll be drunk enough after this one… are you?"
“Of course,” Jordyn said softly. “I’m glad things are okay now,” she smiled and chuckled a little bit. “I definitely want to go see what’s around here,” she nodded. “What better way to celebrate summer than with something spooky, huh?”
"Yeah, we're cool… just no more daddy shaming," Dae said, a soft grin appearing on his lips. He chuckled, "Right? My eomma thought I was already drunk I told her I'm going ghost hunting and she's like… 'Daeshim you know it's August right?'" He snorted. "Where do we go for that?"
“Promise,” Jordyn said, holding up her pinky with a smile to let him know she meant it. She giggled a bit. “My mom would say the same thing… except we’re from Vegas so weird and crazy things happen all year. So no one would be shocked,” she wrinkled her nose. “I… have no clue. Someone is supposed to start the tour.”
Dae used his free hand to link pinkies with Jordyn, a giggle following the gesture. "Perfect," he hummed. He laughed softly at her words. "That's true… aren't ya'll used to aliens and all there? My poor eomma just doesn't get it but didn't judge either…" He nodded, biting his lip. "We could always get a head start?"

Jordyn grinned. “Aliens, drunk people thinking they’re Elvis… even some guy who said he spotted Sasquatch,” she snorted. “Don’t get me started on the people who come to Vegas to look at that damn museum and try to claim they got cursed,” she shook her head with a laugh. “Which way do you wanna go first?”
"Vegas is nuts… you already know that though." Dae snorted. "I'm sure he did… during a trip or some shit." He laughed, even though he knew it may be just as ridiculous to look for ghosts but he didn't care. "Uhh… wanna go around the lake? That could be spooky…"
“I really wouldn’t be surprised,” Jordyn said. She had seen so many strange things since she was young, and it was just part of the territory. But at this point, who knew? Something could happen. Anything could happen. “Oooh, yes. Let’s go,” she nodded. “I wonder if there’s an EVP app…” she wondered out loud.
Dae chuckled, taking another sip of beer before he stood from his chair. He looked around before motioning lazy toward it, "Alright… I'm leaving this here, nobody steal my chair…" he mumbled to anyone who might be in earshot. He was ready to walk along side Jordyn, humming in thought as he started to walk toward the lake. "There might… we gotta look… hopefully we don't vanish."
Jordyn giggled. “Ah!” She removed the scrunchie from her wrist and placed it on top of the chair. “There, dibs have been called,” she grinned proudly. “Hmm…” she hummed a little bit. “Spooky things do tend to happen around open bodies of water,” she said, gesturing the shape of a pond with her hands. “Just as long as we don’t run into any creepy fog or creatures, we should be golden!”
Dae watched as Jordyn marked his chair with her scrunchie, grinning back at her. "Thanks!" He walked alongside her and bit his lip, lucky his buzz was keeping him from getting too spooked. "What do you think we'll find?… a ghost or a monster?"
“You’re welcome!” Jordyn said cheerily. She was in a good mood, and maybe it was the combination of adrenaline, beer and coffee that was peeking her up. “Hopefully a ghost… what about you? Would you rather find a ghost or a monster?”
"Uh… I dunno man," Dae began to slur, taking another sip of his beer and laughing. "Everybody's expecting a ghost so a monster would be pretty sick…" He snorted as he started to fumble with his phone in his pocket. "Should I turn on my flashlight or will that scare it away…?"
“Like a swamp monster? Lake monster, I guess?” Jordyn laughed a little. She held onto his arm so he wouldn’t fall over. She giggled as he mentioned something about his flashlight. “Maybe it’s like a beacon… it’ll come on out?”
Dae snorted again, "Yeah! The lochness monster! Or is that the ocean? I don't know…" He leaned into the girl as they walked, chuckling as a hand moved around her waist as well to keep himself upright. "Good call! Shit… I need another arm… how am I gonna hold my beer, the phone and you at the same time…?"
“I… think that’s also a lake,” Jordyn gave him a grin. “Loch is lake in Scottish…” she walked carefully while still holding onto Dae. She giggled. “Here, I got you,” she said. “Want me to hold your beer too?”
"Scotish…land? Is that where it is??" Dae snorted, still leaning into the other. He smirked at her before he added, "You just wanna steal a sip don't you?" he teased, winking before he gave in and let her hold his beer so he could turn on the flashlight and start to shine it around the lake.
“Sure, close enough,” Jordyn grinned. “I’m good, I think,” she said, nodding at her own empty bottle. “One of us needs to be able to walk straight on the way back home,” she chuckled, taking the bottle from him and looking around them. “See anything?”
"Yeah, you gotta walk straight," Dae teased the other. He started go focus in on what was around once he started to show the light around the lake. He bit his lip as he concentrated hard. "Mmm… I see… oh! Wait… wait? I think I see something over there!"
“So right that way,” Jordyn said pointedly to the path in front of them. Was she nervous if they would find something? Maybe, or maybe that was just the alcohol talking. “Should we get closer or run the other direction?”
Dae started to head in the direction of the flashlight, nodding along and letting out a giggle. "It's okay, hon… I can protect us if it's something big!" He sounded confident, but in reality he would be running the opposite way if they did spot something suspicious. As he approached a close, yet still safe, view of the water he gasped suddenly. "I think I saw it move! It moved!" He squeezed onto Jordyn with nerves and anticipation.
“Good!” Jordyn laughed with a grin. “I have a pretty good aim if I need to throw my shoe at it or something,” she nodded. It was not likely they’d run into some kind of swamp creature but one could never be too sure. “Wh-what?” She yelped, jumping in alarm. Jordyn looked around and her eyes landed on the lake. “Where?”
"That'd be fucking funny but then you might piss whatever it is off and then you'll be screwed…" Dae laughed, though he dramatically put a finger in front of his lips as he shushed her loudly. He crept forward closer, waving his finger in the distance. "There! Oh god what is that? Wait… oh… is that just a fish or something?"
“Okay, point made,” Jordyn wrinkled up her nose. She stopped in her tracks, listening for any shuffling around them. “A walking fish?” She asked in a hushed but confused tone. Her head moved and she ducked to try to see the thing more clearly. “It is a fish…” her eyes went wide.
Dae let out a loud cackle, shaking his head at the girl with him. "I have a joke about walking fish… a fish walked into a bar and the bartender asked 'what can I get you?' And the fish said 'water!'" He laughed at his own joke before he waved the light over the ripping water and confirmed too it was a fish. "Damn… I really thought we were onto something…"
Jordyn grinned a little bit as Dae told his joke. “That was umm…” she giggled. Part of her was relieved that it was just a fish. Maybe looking for some kind of night creature was a little more than they could chew. “Well, who knows? It could be a red herring? Get it? Herring! Heh.”
"A dad joke?" Dae snorted. "I am a dad that's why!" He cocked his head to the side at Jordyn, confused as to whether he was supposed to laugh at the joke. "What the fuck is a herring?" He blurted out with a laugh.
“Fitting!” Jordyn laughed along with him. She grinned a little. “A fish. A small, smelly fish… kinda like a sardine,” she smirked.
Dae crinkled his nose at the mention of sardines, shaking his head. "Blech… I hate sardines. That and tuna, the smell just makes me gag… but anyways! I guess we should head back to the actual ghost hunting so we find something more than Flounder…"
Grave, Jordyn, Dae, Nathaniel, Tia, and Sarahi
The night went on, the sun had set. Grave, who sat quietly by the fire, wordless, felt his phone buzz. It was time: 10:55pm. He stood, knowing that the trek toward the cabin would take five minutes. Anyone who spotted the bright white letters on the back of his hoodie would know why he was there: AHGH. The Prescotts would like to pretend that the rumors were merely just that, rumors. Folklore that kids passed down, Grave and his friends knew better. He turned and began to walk toward the dense woods and toward the cabin where his group would be. He would not stop anyone who wished to follow.
Jordyn lifted her head to see the leader of the ghost hunting group (or who she assumed was the leader of the ghost hunting group) and pursed her lips. She turned her head to the group again. “So uhhh… what do you think we’ll find?”
Dae had followed Jordyn back to the rest of the group in time to officially start the ghost hunting. They messed around a little bit by the lake, but now the real fun was about to begin. He walked alongside Jordyn and the rest of the group, his head whipping side to side. "Yeah… where are we going anyway?"
Grave turned when he heard the voices, a delighted expression pulled on his face. "Hello, friends," he greeted with a dramatic bow-- though he ignored how he almost tripped over a root. "There's a cabin further into the forest, uninhabited for what we are sure is over a decade."
Dae bowed back, biting back the laugh when the other nearly slipped. He continued to walk, stuffing his hands in his pockets as he lingered behind. "Does anybody know who was there last…?"
Jordyn watched the stranger curiously, and pursed her lips in thought. “Sending us to an empty cabin, that sounds like a fun time,” she said, cynically. “Hopefully if it’s been empty for a decade, hopefully a lost princess and her fairy chaperones?”
Nate looked at the stranger skeptically, “what could possibly go wrong?” He says chuckling as he looks across eyes slightly widened.
”Shhhh, don’t jinx it,” Tia spoke up from the other side of the little cluster of people, grinning slightly in amusement. She loved a good ghost story as much as the next person, and the commitment to the bit was admirable, at least. “I kinda dig the lost princess theory too, but if we’re talking a little less fairytale and a little more gothic, it’s probably gonna be folks like me who are the first to go, so good vibes only, please and thank you.”
"Lost Princess?" Sarahi asked once she caught up to the group. She didn't believe in the actual stories, but she was in the mood for some stupid entertainment.
Billie & Blaire
Her typical aesthetic of crystals and witchy cat vibes should have made it clear to people that ghost hunting would also be up Blaire's alley. She was curious to see what may be found, especially in part of her very hometown. Blaire tied her hair up in a pony tail and put on some gloss while she waited for the event to get started, fully ready to roll up her sleeves and track down some spirits. She noticed a lot of familiar faces around her, greeting them with friendly smiles until she spotted another she knew all too well… a heavy exhale escaped her red lips when she saw Billie would be participating with them.
Billie had followed Grave when he had gotten up from the bonfire. She had known him for years, though not personally. She admired his passion in all things weird, so when she saw the posts and flyers, she figured the ghost hunting was safe enough to join. She made sure to wear comfortable clothes and even bathed herself in bug spray to keep the bites away. People were joining groups and pairs, and while Billie was not shy, she didn't bother stepping forward and joining anyone. However, she she turned she spotted someone quite familiar. "Oh, hey."
Blaire's head turned in the direction of Billie's voice, biting her lip. She managed a tiny grin at the sight of her, though she still felt an uncomfortable tug at her chest. "Hey…" she exhaled through her nostrils before she found the courage to step a bit closer. "So… ghost hunting, huh?"
Shit, shit, shit…. Billie wanted things to go back to normal, but considering she hardly spoke to Blaire since Pride-- "Yeah, ghosts. Crazy." Smooth
Blaire bit her lip, an awkward laugh releasing in return. "Yeah… so crazy," she replied. She rolled her eyes then, not in any particular direction but out of annoyance over the whole situation. Her arms were crossed, just wanting this whole weird tension to be gone. She glanced back at the girl then sighed heavily before saying, "Are we good, or…?"
Billie walked forward, the crunch of the branches under her Chucks. She was just going to focus on the group who travelled around the abandoned property, but Blaire's question caught her attention. Billie looked up from the overgrown plants, her eyes wide. "Yeah, why wouldn't we be? Are you mad at me?"
Blaire shrugged, biting her lip as her blue eyes gazed anywhere but directly in Billie's eyes. "I don't know… we just kiss and then it's like we're strangers. I can't be the only one finding that odd… unless it's what you want."
Blaire wasn't wrong, they were almost complete strangers after the pair kissed. It was so long ago too, but it wasn't as though Billie had the clearest memory as to what happened. She remembered just the kiss and going home, nothing else. The confusion and fear was enough to shrink away from Blaire, even if their friendship meant so much to her. How silly, a short-term friendship was something that Billie wasn't to grasp onto, she wanted to so tightly that even thinking about it her knuckles would go white and her blunt nails would dig into her palm. Still, she shrunk away because that was better than asking what it meant, and even admitting that was just far too embarrassing, more embarrassing than anything else she did, that was for sure. Billie shifted her weight from where she stood. "I don't want that," Billie admitted slowly, her eyebrows knitted. "I just didn't know what else to do…"
The silence between the two was so loud to Blaire, knowing that there was a lot to unpack and it was hard for both to find a clear starting point. When Billie did begin to speak up, there was at least the relief that she didn't want to just walk away. She had dealt with people like that in the past, and at least in Azure she had Becks and Billie who weren't going anywhere. Even when things got a bit awkeard and messy. "Sometimes it's just easier to avoid…" she mumbled in agreement. "But… when you care about somebody… you can't. And…" she pushed out a breath she had been holding onto that whole time, a bit afraid to admit the extent of how much she had started to care. Not only to Billie, but to herself as well.
Billie took a step back and tried her hardest to analyze and guess just what Blaire was trying to say. "You care?"
Blaire bit her lip before she gave a slow nod. "Yeah… I do. About you…"
Billie couldn't help but gulp, her fingers found themselves at the hem of her own shirt. "I-I care for you too," she admitted. "I just don't know how."
Blaire tilted her head slowly upward to sneak a glance at Billie. She pursed her lips and then sighed. "O-oh… how will we find out?"
Billie shook her head. She pressed her lips in a tight line and shrugged her shoulders. She didn't want to hurt Blaire, but she felt so much, and she wasn't sure what it was. Was it just friendship or something else? Blaire was pretty, there was no denying that, but did she feel romantic towards her? Was it more than just a friendship with an aesthetic appreciation? "I've never really thought about it before, not until well… the obvious happened."
"I guess I didn't either… I always thought I was just attracted to guys. Never really sexually but… I only imagined myself dating them. But then I met you and when we started hanging out… I don't know. I'm just confused," Blaire admitted. It was true, she thought she had her sexuality down pat until she met Billie. She felt as though as she had unlocked a new part of herself.
Billie felt as though the world was spinning and she couldn't tell if it was good or bad. She didn't know how to respond, she opened her mouth but nothing came out, not at first at least. "I… I don't know. I appreciate what you said, but maybe you should figure things out. What if you want something without being sure who you are and it just doesn't work… then things will just get messy and weird."
Blaire tilted her head, searching Billie's face for any sort of answer. Her mind was rushing and she couldn't grasp onto a single thought. "H-how do I figure it out?"
"That's… something you have to figure out. I don't know how I can help you but for me, it's just something I knew when growing up," Billie explained.

biography
The baby of the family, Jordyn was born to a couple who worked hard to give their kids the best. Donna and James were kept on their toes with three boys and a girl coming along years later. Having three older brothers, she was a little spoiled but never too much. There was always time for no nonsense.
She excelled in school, which made her a bit of a target of bullies. But Jordyn wasn’t scared. Her brothers were a bit overprotective, which was to be expected. She was the only girl, and the youngest. It made her tough as well, and enough for her to hold her own.
And it seemed picture perfect until it wasn’t.
James left without much warning when Jordyn was about ten years old and Donna started working two jobs, taking on odd shifts at the casino she served at. It wasn’t the future she planned for her kids.
Jordyn made it through high school, and then college. She stayed close to her siblings even though they left to start their own lives. Her mom remained in Las Vegas and being the youngest, felt some slight guilt in leaving for college to study education.
It was her goal to become a teacher because she loved to learn. After graduating from NYU with her bachelor’s she took a year off to travel, doing as much as she could before going for her master’s. Of course, things didn’t go as planned and getting into a graduate program was harder than she realized.
In a few years after working as a teacher’s assistant, she finally found a program at San Francisco State University, and months within graduating she found herself with a job at the local elementary school. She loves to read, listen to true crime podcasts and spending time with her friends.
