In case anyone hasn't heard, the cyclospora outbreak affecting tons of people in the US right now is coming from Taylor Farms produce. Best to stay away from bagged lettuce and prepared salads completely right now, but especially the ones mentioned in the screenshot:

Taylor Farms Earthbound Farms Little Salad Bar (Aldi) Marketside (Walmart) Kroger House Brand Target private label greens Costco salads and greens etc Trader Joe's chopped salad kits and fresh produce Fast food: McDonalds, Taco Bell, (Yum! Brands), Chipotle, Subway, Pizza Hut, KFC, Olive Garden, Top Golf, Red Lobster, Burger King, etc.

This is not the first time I've heard about a Taylor Farms foodborne illness outbreak. I stopped eating their salads after reading a description of the conditions in their facilities. Doesn't sound like they've improved anything.

We need a fully funded and staffed FDA, and regulations with teeth - and that's exactly what we don't have under Trump. To make things worse, the CDC is no longer tracking these outbreaks. We're on our own.

I'm currently living in a two-cat household, and there's a thing that happens where the first cat is calling for me, the second cat shows up like "you rang?", and the first cat immediately smacks the second cat in the face like "not you, knucklehead". They do this every day.

It's remarkable that in a society full of truly terrible ideas, car centric infrastructure still stands out as among the worst. Like what are we even doing.

It's like sure, cars are terrible for the environment, a disaster for health and safety for both people inside and outside of them, loud, smelly, increase the urban heat island effect making hot days hotter, cost an incredible amount of money both at a societal and personal level, and disconnect users from larger society, but at least they also make cities hard and dangerous to navigate on foot or by bike and kill local businesses by reducing foot traffic and density.

Car centric design results in land populated solely by strip malls with nation wide chains, gas stations, and drive throughs, all cut through by massive roads and parking lots that divide neighborhoods, disenfranchise communities along racial and class lines, and generally just ruin the vibe of all places, but it's all worth it so we can... Not walk places and instead send 1/3 of our paychecks to Ford.... I guess?

Im proposing the hypothesis that the reason we don’t have enough doctors/pilots/bus drivers/etc is that maybe, just maybe, having your entire industry function as a lifelong hazing ritual isn’t the best recruiting strategy.

Doctors are subject to 8 years of post-secondary education and are forced to work 48 hour shifts.

Pilots and other transportation workers have absurd hours of service requirements that start your rest period as “the moment you shut the vehicle down” and can be as short as 9 hours in some cases.

Railroad workers have to be available on-call 6 days a week and be ready within two hours notice. They don’t get sick time.

Retail workers have to keep a veneer of politeness against any and all abuse or they can be fired.

Truck drivers get paid by mileage and rarely see pay for shipper or receiver delays.

Work should not be designed to make you a miserable burnout and yet here we are.

Oh yeah, it did come with benefits, but they weren't really worth it. The culture was really toxic. To be honest I think I'd prefer a part-time gender so I can just be self-described in my spare time.
