Mary Jane could hardly contain her expression of excitement as she watched Allisonâs features spring to life. It was that sort of chemistry that was simply contagious. The brunette had her full attention when she spoke. âAnd I do,â she mentioned playfully as Allison spoke of her insisting. There were so many more questions that she wanted to ask, so much more conversing that she had wanted to be had. But alas, such desires were of little importance right now and would have to wait as her new friend was called to perform.
MJ offered last minute words of encouragement before sinking back into her seat and biting furiously at her lower lip. She had hardly even known the girl, but already she had so badly wanted for her to excel. It was one thing to support or ease the nerves of a rookie with things like, âIâm sure youâll do great!â But it was another thing entirely to have to actually sit back, helplessly, and watch them sink or swim. Sheâd never seen Allison perform, and just as excited as she may have been to watch, she was equally nervous with the small realization that she might actually be terrible. Though her mind clung to the better half of that gamble.
It wasnât long before her features were growing brighter, and those butterflies within her tummy were turning into flutters of sheer excitement. She was fantastic. No doubt, this made MJ that much more impressed with her new choice of friendship.Â
She waited for Allison to conclude, and then offered up a louder applause than the rest. âAlright, Allison!â She harped after her, wanting to be sure that she heard, smile peeled wide across her face.Â
"Mary Jane Watson," the same voice called aloud after Allison had taken her exit from the stage.
Shit. It wasnât that Mary Jane was nervous about performing or even that she wasnât expecting it. She just wasnât anticipating having to perform right after Allison had. This just meant she wouldnât be there to let her know how truly fabulous she had been. Small words in passing would have to suffice. âGood job, newbie.â She whispered with a grin and a wink as she passed the girl on her way back to her seat before taking to the stage.
The bright lights overhead were of no surprise to MJ, and certainly not anything she wasnât used to, but it was always a bit startling when having not been in the habit for a few months. She nodded out toward her panel of judges, âJonathen.â He returned her nod with an equally playful grin, âMiss Watson.â It was clear that the girl seemed to know her judges on a more personal level. The director offered a firm expression, âBest of luck, Mary Jane.â
MJ extended her gaze and yet another nod in the way of the stage assistant, signaling to her that she was ready.
Mary Janeâs audition piece started with the sort of slow and enticing lull that was easy on the ears and easily captivating, though quickly grew into a demanding and robust number. The red-head was wonderful at selling herself and her audition role, the small mannerisms and expression about her face easily adding a certain flare of reality to her performance that sold it all that much more believable. She wasnât at all rushed, instead taking her time in going through every motion and step, covering the stage from different angles before taking up center stage for her final belting note and finale.
She was out of breath and panting softly, hands held overhead with her head tilting backward. She lost herself in that same overly bright glow cast down by the lights overhead. It felt good to be back at home.
Mary Jane was quick to take her exit, after silently thanking the panel and offering one final bow. She paraded proudly down the aisle, gesturing for Allison to follow her. There was no reason for the two to stick around, not after theyâd already performed. Auditions would run a few more hours, that was for certain. And then even after, itâd take at least another half-hour before theyâd posted a call back sheet.
"So about that lunch date," she smirked. "I think nowâs as good of a time as any."
