After everything that happened in the past month, from reuniting with blake, to damn near getting killed by him, and finally bringing him back home in Maya, Wishbone felt..exhausted, more than just physically. He was relieved to still be alive and get Blake back safely, but the whole ordeal left him feeling something he never experienced before. It's like even his heart was tired, all he wanted to do was rest for a long time..he barely even saw Blake in the past few weeks after that night at Aztecka. Some part of him didn't want to, because that meant facing and reliving that terrifying night. So he just stayed away from home, keeping busy despite how exhausted he felt. Some days, he even dozed off whenever he wasn't on his feet.
One evening, he just got back home from a long bounty hunt. He was going to just go out and gamble like he sometimes did with his pay, but gave up on the idea, being way to tired, he could barely even keep his eyes open when he got inside. He lazily took off his gear, not bothering to put them away properly before collapsing onto his couch, almost immediately drifting into sleep...
He drifted into a dream, but not a nightmare like he experienced too many times to even count. This felt...peaceful. like a childhood memory playing in his mind. He found himself running and giggling like a kid, hiding behind trees and bushes, trying to be quiet while Blake looked around, trying to find him. His giggles gave himself away, Blake started to chase him through some forest, they both laughed, eventually, Blake caught up to Wishbone and tackled him to the ground. In this dream, they were really children. Wishbone wearing the clothes from his own childhood he thought he forgotten about. Blake looked smaller here, happier even.
They played, laughed, ran around, being free. Just happy being together, playing together. There was no violence here, no blood, no fear. He really didn't want this dream to end.
He lead Blake to a clearing in the forest, sitting on the grass across from him. In a childlike voice, he spoke first
"Oh! Wanna chase the bunnies again? It's funny watching you catch them! The sounds they make are so funny!"
Wishbone said as he giggled, but Blake's smile faded slightly. He looked down shyly.
"I...don't really wanna..."
He said with a fown.
"What? Whyyy"
Wishbone asked with a whine in his voice.
"..I dunno....I...don't like...how scared they are of me..."
Blake said quietly..keeping his eyes down at his feet. Wishbone just sighed heavily.
"Aww....fine. then..I dunno, what do you wanna do?"
Blake seemed to think for a moment, moving to sit closer to Wishbone.
"Can..we just stay here? And..watch the clouds? Or nap here?"
"Oh..I guess."
Blake smiled softly before laying down on the grass, looking up at the sky and clouds, Wishbone doing the same, occasionally glancing over at Blake. After a few moments of silence, Blake spoke quietly still looking up.
"Please don't leave when i fall asleep.."
Wishbone looked over at him, surprised by his words. But nodded.
"...okay."
Blake reached over to hold his hand, squeezing a little as he started to drift to sleep, purring softly..Wishbone didn't move, he never did. He didn't even pull his hand away. Instead, he squeezed back every few minutes, like he was silently reassuring him he was still there, and he wasn't leaving.
Wishbone soon woke up from that dream however. He laid there, thinking about the surprisingly peaceful dream he just experienced. Usually, he'd have nightmares, especially about Blake, but in this one, they were just children, living, playing and bonding like friends. Maybe it was a fantasy he didn't know he wanted with Blake. But that could never happen, at least not in the way he just dreamed about. He still felt afraid, but he also still felt a bit of hope having a future with him, even if it felt so damn scary right now.
