Helpful and Preventative Stretches for Writers, Artists, and Gamers 💪🎨✍🎮

If you type, write, draw, game, or generally use your hands a lot (especially if you’re prone to RSI or Carpal Tunnel!) try these stretches as both a preventative measure, and on the spot relief. Take care of yourself and your body, friends!

Start with hands up, fingers stretched out. Stretch your thumb as far as you can over your palm. Hold and repeat 4 times.

Touch each finger to your thumb. Hold each for 30 seconds. Repeat on each hand 4 times.

Start with a fist. Open half way, hold for 2 seconds. Stretch fingers out, hold for 2 seconds. Repeat 4 times.

Start with one arm out, palm up. Pull your fingers back with your other hand. Hold for 10 seconds. Do the same with your other hand. Repeat 4 times

Start with arms up, palms out. Bend wrists down until you feel the stretch, but keep your fingers loose. Hold 10 seconds. Bend wrist upwards, until you feel it in your wrist and arm. Hold 10 seconds. Repeat 4 times.

Desperate Measures - A Fenris and Solas mini comic. I was inspired by old tweets by David Gaider insinuating that Solas and Fenris would work together under certain circumstances.

I was thinking they would meet whilst busting a major slave operation in Tevinter, and after working together for a bit and Solas seeing Fenris’ potential, or perhaps knowing something about his markings that we don’t, solas offers to help him achieve both his goals of rescuing Hawke from the Fade and rescuing slaves, in return for his loyalty.

Haven Sleeping Arrangements

Cullen

Cullen sleeps in the tent closest to the screen. There’s a shawl with the Inquisition logo on it, and it’s set off to the side, away from the larger cluster of tents where his men (and presumably most of the Chargers?) sleep.

Cassandra, Leliana, and Josephine

The founding ladies share this room. I have a feeling the big bed off to the side is Cassandra’s due to the Chant of Light sitting on the bed cover. There’s also definitely a copy of Swords and Shields hidden under the mattress.

Solas & Dorian

Solas and Dorian each have their own cottage, on either side of Adan’s house/potion studio.

Varric & Cole

Varric sleeps in one of these tents. Cole hangs out near Seggrit’s cart right across from them, so I like to think that their relationship starting developing while they talked by the fire at night.

Iron Bull & Krem

This is definitely the Iron Bull’s tent, but I really really hope he and Krem share it. Thinking about their sleepy bedtime conversations makes me really happy.

Sera

There’s no bed in the tavern where Sera spends her time, but as far as I’m concerned she has a bedroll tucked behind the bar and she curls up by the tavern hearth at night.

Blackwall

Blackwall sleeps in the little cottage next to the forge. There are two beds in there.

Vivienne

I have no idea. I don’t really see her sharing a cottage with anyone to be honest. Maybe she kicks Dorian out of his house and he has to share with Solas? If anyone knows, please enlighten me!

Cullen

It’s interesting that the hole in Cullen’s ceiling never gets fixed. According to World of Thedas, Cullen is claustrophobic as a result of the trauma he experienced when he was younger. I think it was probably hard to convince him to sleep inside at all - he probably wanted to stay in a tent with the rest of his men. At least with the hole in the ceiling he gets constant fresh air and a view of the sky. Plus it’s not right over his bed so, you know, he won’t get rained or snowed on all the time.

Cassandra

I’m almost positive that this is Cassandra’s little room. There’s only a bedroll, but it’s above the armoury, there’s a stack of books on the little table, and there’s a one-handed sword lying on the bench.

Dorian

This is the smaller of the two bedrooms above the garden. It just has a Dorian vibe to it, and it’s fairly close to his alcove in the library where he spends most of his time. There are lots of books lying around haphazardly.

Vivienne

The larger and more stately of the two bedrooms above the garden, this is also the one closest to Vivienne’s usual spot on the upper balcony. It’s very well kept and has expensive decorations.

Solas

Solas is accustomed to sleeping in strange places after his many years of experience as a fade walker. Maybe he sleeps up on the scaffolding for some privacy? Or just curls up on the couch?

Blackwall

Ah, Blackwall. A true man’s man. Here we’ve got some pallets with furs spread across them, and some hay bales for a pillow. This is in the stable loft.

Sera

Fairly obvious, Sera sleeps in her tavern room.

Cole

Does Cole sleep? Has this ever been established??

Iron Bull

The Iron Bull’s room is pretty funny. There’s an axe stuck to the base of the bed, a bottle of wine under the pillow, a pie under the bed, and tons more food and booze scattered around.

Sometimes people like to write things about florist’s shops. Here are two things you need to know, the most egregiously wrong things.

1. It makes no fucking sense to sketch out a bouquet before you make it. Every individual flower is different in a way that cannot really be adjusted the way other building materials can be adjusted, and each individual bouquet is unique. Just put the fucking flowers together.

2. No one — in months and months of working at the flower shop — has ever cared what the flower/color of the flower means. No one’s ever asked. It’s just not something people tend to care about outside of fiction and it’s certainly not something most florists know. You know what florists know? What looks good and is thematically appropriate.

Here’s an actual list of the symbology of flowers, as professionals use it:

Yellow – for friends, hospitals Pink – girls, girlfriends, babies, bridesmaids Red – love Purple – queens White – marriage and death (DO NOT SEND TO HOSPITALS) Pink and purple – ur mum Red, orange, and yellow – ur mum if she’s stylish Red, yellow, blue – dudes and small children Blue and white – rare, probably a wedding Red and white – love for fancy bitches

Carnations – fuck u these are meaningless filler-flowers, not even your administrative assistant likes them, show some creativity Alstroemeria – by and large very similar to carnations but I like them better Tea roses – cute and lil and come several to a stalk, a classy filler flower Moluccella laevis – filler flower but CHOICE Delphinium – not as interesting as moluccella but purple so okay I guess Blue thistle – FUCK YEAH, some fucking textural variety at last! you’re getting this for a dude, aren’t you? Chrysanthemums – barely better than carnations but better is still better Gladiolus – ooh, risky business, someone understands the use of the Y-axis, very good

Focal points:

Long-stem roses – yeah whatever Lilies – LBD, looks good with everything, get used as often as possible Hydrangeas – thirsty fuckers, divas of the flower world and rightly so, treat them right and they make you look good Gerbera daisies – the rose’s hippie cousin, hotter but no one admits it Peonies – CHA-CHING, everybody’s absolute favorite but you need guap Orchids – if this isn’t for a wedding you’re probably trying too hard but they’re expensive so keep ordering them

You know what matters? THE CUSTOMER’S BUDGET. THAT’S TELLING.

-$20 – if you’re not under 12, fuck off, get your sugar something else $30 – good for bouquets but an arrangement will be lame $40 – getting there, there’s something that can be done with that. you can get some gerbs or roses with that and not have them look stupidly solo. $50 to $70 – tolerable $80 – FINALLY. It sounds elitist but this really is the basic amount of money you should expect to spend on an arrangement that matters. That’s your Mother’s Day arrangement. You’re probably not going to spend $80 on a bouquet. $90 to $130 – THE GOOD SHIT, you’re likely to get some orchids $130+ – Weddings and death. This amount of money gets you a memorial arrangement or a handmade bridal bouquet. Don’t spend this on a Mother’s Day or a Babe I Love You arrangement, buy whosits a massage or something.

Miscellaneous:

Everything needs greening and if you don’t think that you’re an idiot.

As a new employee, when you start making arrangements, you can’t see the mistakes you’re making because you’re brand new and you’re learning an art form from the ground up.

With a few exceptions customers don’t have a clear plan in mind. They want you to develop the bouquet for them. They want something that will delight their little sweetbread but you’re lucky if they know that person’s favorite color, let alone flower.

Flower shops don’t typically have every kind of flower in every kind of color. Customers generally aren’t assed about that. Most people don’t care about the precise shade of the rose or having daffodils in July, because they’re not boning up on flower language before they buy. That would imply that they’ve got a clear bouquet in mind and, again, they don’t.

Being a florist is essentially a lot like what I imagine being a mortician is about. You’re basically keeping dead things looking good for as long as possible. You keep the product in the fridge so it doesn’t rot and look horrible by the time the family gets a whack at it, and in the meanwhile you put it in a nice container.

Anyway that’s flowers.

because i am a foreign-languages asshole: scenes and dialogue in the dragon age series that should have had approximately 300% more difficulty with communication

- broscas/aeducans/mahariels having tons of difficulty navigating surface-level andrastian human slang/idioms/vocabulary because they’re used to their own mishmash of the Common tongue & their mother language from back home

- conversely, amells/suranas/tabrises confusing the fuck out of others when trying to communicate in their own Common-tongue idiosyncrasies from their own extremely insular communities

- Leliana, Zevran, and Sten occasionally having those moments where you completely blank out on a word or phrase in another language and have to stand there coming up with awkward alternate definitions until the other person supplies it for you (Sten has one with “cookies,” more like that pls)

- wardens from aforementioned insular communities pleased to be “reunited” with their respective home environments to some degree because even if the circumstances of their leaving were less than stellar, at least they’re FINALLY around other people who understand their extremely specific family of Dust Town/Diamond Quarter/Kinloch Hold/Elvehn/Denerim Alienage dialect

- Hawkefam having to adapt to the Kirkwall flavor of the Marcher brand of Common after speaking nothing but Backwater Fereldan Redneck all their lives

- Isabela speaking like, any Rivaini whatsoever

- ditto for Sebastian speaking Lowland Scots

- Tevene!!!! Ander!!! Elvehn!!!

- (what im saying is that i wish there was more content of hawke’s LIs speaking to them/teaching them shit in their own languages besides the standard couple of phrases that get frequently tossed around)

- Viv and Dorian likely also being gossipy shits because being multilingual is a near-guaranteed skill for people participating in highborn political antics

- “Last Resort of Good Men” also taking place entirely in Tevene, and “Demands of the Qun” featuring a ton of Qunlat

- Blackwall’s ability to speak Orlesian getting out after his personal quest (plus Cole’s since he spent tons of time in the White Spire)

- “commoner” Tevene from Krem vs. “academic” Tevene from Dorian

- any Nevarran from Cass. any at all. pls bioware im so desperate for ur shitty fake languages

- Sentinelves from the Arbor Wilds temple being thoroughly confused at a Dalish Inquisitor’s rapid-fire contemporary slapdash approximation of Elvehn and responding only in the centuries-old “proper” equivalent

Dragon Age Combined Maps: Speculative Locations

Well, this has been sitting untouched on my hard drive for ages, so I may as well throw it up! Top image is Ferelden and eastern Orlais, using the newest base map from Inquisition. Bottom left is all of Orlais (and some of Nevarra). Bottom right is the version of the top image that I prefer, but because of the overlay of the DAO/RPG map it is busier to look at.

Map Key

Hollow circles and/or Inquisition font are canon locations, drawn from all the possible combinations of Thedas maps I could find.

Solid circles and/or DA:O font (Mikadan) are the more speculative locations. All are my best guesses, based off of in-game maps or information, but are not directly pinpointed on any map anywhere.

Diamonds are Dwarvan thaigs/locations.

The black lines up by Amaranthine in the bottom right image are the roads from the Awakening map.

Missing from this map are just a couple things: the locations of some of the Green Ronin tabletop stuff and anything from the novels (as I do not have any novels except Last Flight); @higheverrains‘s excellent Deep Roads mapwork [link] (I have a layer for it, but it did not get a final application, hah) which did seem to be more or less lining up for me, as well; and Redcliffe.

Because fuck you, Redcliffe. You’re the entire reason I started this project and my only satisfactory conclusion is “fuck you and the gurn you rode in on Andraste save me”.

Images are scaled down from my working images but ARE still pretty large, so. Use as you will, but credit would be cool.
