Soooooooo goood~!
Posting this for the people who think that Tolkien's world-building was something complete and entire and finished before he started to write.
You always learn and discover your story and your world as you write. Sometimes you are just the first reader.
I'm not gonna say I compare to J.R.R. freakin' Tolkien or anything, but it is very gratifying to read notes from the guy who built a world to justify his favorite personal languages when I also turn around and tell people my characters basically create themselves and all I do is follow them around trying desperately to take notes fast enough
😠 ; Is there anything you dislike about your muse?
From a moral perspective? Well yes. I don’t agree with some things my characters do.
Example: Let’s go with Saf. Cause she’s a mess.
I don’t approve of Safrona making up stories about who she is, living lies, mixing up truths into fabrications like a cocktail with the knowledge most will just take it because its easier to swallow. There are times I cringe at what she ‘serves’.
Her friendships seem superficial to me at times, the way she treats people. Sometimes she is so two-faced about who she is she reminds me of a sycophantic politician, trying to win votes by telling people exactly what they want to hear, or what seems believable.
She gets better at being ‘real’ and profound in the company of people that see through or ‘get’ her, but some days...she is just the echo she started out as, backtracking in her development. Being ingenuine is a safety measure for her, a power move, a way to feel in control of her life, to feel like it IS hers. I know well why she does the things she does, but it doesn’t make what she does right.
There are days where I walk an edge of her coming clean, that I want her to bleed truths, when i force it just a little in the writing. The whiskey confessionals are the cheat, the allowance to be real. But she always returns to the mask of the Courier. She will always return to the lie, and it makes me shake my head. But that’s also what makes her also very intriguing for me to write, that back and forth. Her ‘perfection’ is not perfect at all. It’s...a Perfect Blue kind of psychological twisting. It’s not right, she’s not normal, it can be draining to keep up with in Saf, but I love it.
Thank you, @videtur-existentia!
Perhaps a certain lockpick should show his face more often... He knows a thing or two!

Human Male Rogue. The Silver Tongue, The Singing Lockpick (the original). Alas, this is the one I really don’t play anymore but he has QUITE the story.
A tapping at her window summoned her, as if someone was out on her balcony. When Safrona went to answer she was met with a red-masked man, wheat-colored hair crowning familiar ocean eyes. The usual smile however, was missing. The ocean eyes were grey, the brow knit. When she opened the window, he fell inward, almost on top of her. That was when she noticed the blood. "Anna..." was the wheezing whisper as he crumbled on the flood, crimson pooling around him. "Anna, I..." His eyes glazed over.
{Pretend to be someone my Muse cares for}
No serving of a soulstone caught the soul as the body laid out in her grasp lost its vivacity by the second. The blood that pooled from William Adie’ri was bright in her hands, putting out the color of her darker reds, the color of the Bloodwine in her hair, still caught in the vein. As he desperately wheezed out a name that was no longer hers, it brought back a rush of fragmented memory between them of a woman that loved him even in his darkest moments…
…he had struggled so long to find his piece of happiness, struggled all his life to keep it. Now he was losing grasp, and begging her to give him reach to anchor onto before the life went out in the sun-dappled ocean of his eyes.
And she could do nothing.
Nothing.
She was only, ever, ruin.
Cradling his head as his eyes went gray and dead, she squeezed at the lifeless limbs, pinched cooling skin, tainted flame rushing along the body as her emotions leaked to inspire it. Woe, anger, loss – it coalesced to consume what was left, a pyre for the Singing Lockpick forged beyond her control within her sudden mad, mourning. He would sing no more…
“…why did you come to me….? Why…? You fool…”
Safrona snapped up from the nightmare, face wet, breathless with the fear of loss. Was the Dark testing her again, stinging at her will, pulling at the darkest sediment of anxieties by eliciting such imagery? Or was it a vision of things to come…?
Frantically, she’d searched for the obsidian ring that held old communications between her and her old, lingering friend, finally yanking it from a forgotten drawer. “Will…?” she whispered, hoping its enchantment still held true. “Will…? Are you there?”
His voice answered in return, and for the moment, the Warlock could feel herself steadily, slowly calm.
{ @s-p-giffy / @singinglockpick }
“Safrona? To what do I owe the pleasure of your voice? Is everything alright? I haven’t heard from you in some time.” He rolled the black ring, eyeing it on the silver chain of his necklace. He’d been whittling again, the half-finished wood piece set aside now for this new distraction.

What Are All Those Picks Used For?
[by The Art of Lockpicking]
All These Picks
So many picks to choose from! So expensive!! What should I buy? Well let’s answer first why I should buy this or that particular set.
There are essentially 2 different types of picking methods when compromising a pin tumbler lock. We have Single Pin Picking (SPP for short), and Raking. Sure, you can combine the two and it’s called “Bitch Picking” but it’s not a real technique someone should spend too much time on, it’s just something you can do when frustrated, or you have a really cheap lock. Bitch Picking uses luck. SPP and Raking use skill.
Single pin picking is considered the best method as it’s not only more precise, but it also helps develop skills that can be moved over into high security locks. This is important because there are very few high security locks that you can open by using the raking method alone. Single pin picking just gives you more control over the lock and provides more feedback to what is happening within the lock.
With single pin picking you’re manipulating each pin individually, one at a time, by lifting them and setting them, or leaving them alone because they don’t want to set, and then moving on to another pin. This can be arduous to say the least, and there are other factors involved like tension on the torsion wrench (“tensor”, and “tension wrench” are other names for a “torsion wrench”) as well as looking for a binding order. You may also be looking for security driver pins, and possibly in rare situations security key pins. So the single pin picking method has its advantages, as you will run into many different obstacles in every lock.
Raking is considered a “novice” method by many locksport enthusiasts, but locksmiths swear by it, and it’s definitely a go-to method when encountering an everyday pin tumbler lock in the field. This method is also commonly known as “rubbing” or “scrubbing” because you are essentially scrubbing the key pins with your rake pick in a violent back and forth motion, almost like your cleaning the pins inside the lock. By doing this, you are manipulating the key pins and driver pins, while simultaneously applying rotation to the plug with a tension wrench. In time, all the pins will be set at the “shear line” of the lock, and it will open. Note: When the cylinder finally turns inside of the lock, it’s activating the tail-piece, which in turn releases or rotates a latch or deadbolt and allows you to open the door.
Most lock pick sets will consist of picks that are designed to apply the above two techniques (SPP and Raking). The only other picks commonly found in North American lock pick sets, that are not used for single pin picking nor raking, are the The Snowman a.k.a. “Double Ball,” the The Half Snowman a.k.a. “Single Ball,” the Half Ball, and Double Half Ball picks.
These picks are primarily used for Wafer Locks only. Wafer Locks are not pin tumblers as they do not have pins, but instead flat wafers. These locks are found on cabinets, desks, small money lock boxes, and even glove compartments in cars. However they are not the same as a vehicle door nor ignition locks that utilize wafers, because they are assembled much differently in that regard, and therefore require different tools and techniques to be manipulated. The Snowman, Half Snowman, Half Ball and Double Half Ball picks should be only used for single pin picking on Wafer Locks, however they have been known to be used for raking pin tumblers, but that is not their intended purpose. Additionally, you can just use a normal lifter pick to single pin pick a wafer lock, so there is not really a need to add them to your lock pick set.
Single Pin Picks
The most common lock pick of choice for single pin picking is the Hook Pick, also know as a Lifter Pick or Short Hook Pick.
There are honestly at least a dozen variations of the classic Hook Pick. There are Gonzo Hooks, Rocker Hooks, and Rocker Picks to name a few.
But when it comes to single pin picking, the simpler and smaller the better.
Rake Picks
So now onto Rake Picks. The fact is, a lock doesn’t know if you have a legitimate Bogota styled rake pick, an “S” pick, or a “Z” pick. Nor does the lock know if it has 2 ridges or 3. Raking a lock open isn’t exactly technique as much as it is probability and luck. So the most common rakes you will find can be summed up in 4 styles, all of which work the exact same.
First there is the oldest style… the S Rake, or better known as the Snake Rake or Squiggly Rake.
These are most common in HPC and Southord sets as they have been around for over 50 years.
Next is the W Rake, also known as the Z Rake or Triple Rake.
The above is my favorite style of rake and is found in Peterson Pick Sets and some cheaper sets.
Next we have a Bogota Rake, designed by Raimundo from the locksport internet forum Lockpicking101 about 10 years ago. He was inspired by the mountains in Bogota, Columbia. Below is a Bogota Rake pick.
And lastly we have the L Rake, also known as a Long Rake, or the City Rake. (This is my second favorite rake pick.)
Other Picks
As previously discussed, the only other picks you should encounter will be the Snowman and Half Snowman picks used for wafer locks. These are better known as the Double Ball, Single Ball, Double Half Ball, and Half Single Ball. Either way, the lock doesn’t know the difference does it?
Yes, there are about 50 other picks I did not cover… like the Diamond and Half Diamond picks, or the Deforest pick (Hooked Diamond), or the “King” & “Queen” picks. But guess what, they all do the exact same thing as the picks previously mentioned. They either lift the pin or they rake the pins as a whole. That’s it. No other special tricks!
The only other pick that might do anything remotely different for a pin tumbler lock other than single pin picking and raking, is the Groove Pick, also known as “DCAP Lifter Pick 1″ or“High Reach” pick. It was originally offered by Peterson Lock Picks and now by several others companies such as Sparrows.
The only purpose for that pick is to physically grab the pin for either lifting or rotating it. Some high security locks require the pins to be rotated before being lifted to sheer line. That usually means you’re probably picking a high security lock such as Medeco, and you’re dealing with a high security pin tumbler lock. These locks are not very common and I will not go into further detail on that lock or tool right now. However you can argue that the Groove Pick is great for single pin picking, and that’s totally fine because in the end it’s just another hook pick with a small groove cut out in the tip.
So that’s it. All you really need are two picks. One for single pin picking and one for raking. If you want to have a complete set, then add a ball pick in case you run into any nasty wafer locks, but you could just use your common lifter pick on that with some practice.
Be sure to keep an eye out for my next article where I will cover some budget lock pick sets that include the picks mentioned here.

The Reality Is
Her fel green eyes widened as she heard the news she did not want to hear at all. The medic gave her a moment as he fixed the paper work back into the folder. Alexielle blinked a few times and tears that had filled her surprised eyes began to fall from befallen face. She couldn’t look at the medic. She couldn’t look at the wall, where pictures of babies hung, almost mocking her.
“What…do you mean I have nothing?”
The medic finally looked up, “I’m sorry, Mrs. Adier’i, but in order to create a child of your own, both your husband and yourself must have the proper…ingredients, for lack of better words, and after our thorough investigation, you are lacking ovaries. You do not carry any eggs. I’m sorry.”
Alexielle shook her head slowly, but she already knew all this. At least, it was what Zanien had told her many years ago, but it wasn’t until this visit that she knew for sure the damage that her former master had put her through. And now, now that she wanted to give her husband a child, the truth was verified. She really wasn’t able to have children. Not through her. Not by her.
“Is…is there anything I can do? Maybe through magic?”
The medic smiled and folded his hands on his desk. “Mrs. Adier’i, I am a medic who practices traditional medicine. Yes, I can heal with magic, but I have promised to be as natural as possible to help those who may not be able to tolerate magic. If you want to seek magical sources, you have every right to do so, but I will not be involved.”
Alexielle wiped the tears from her face and glared at the doctor. “There has to be another way other than ‘I’m sorry,’ medic. I will not take no for an answer.”
The medic pushed his glasses upward and sighed. “Mrs. Adier’i, threats are not going to help you in this case. Besides, let’s be honest: I know how infested you are with that fel you wield.”
“That is none of your damn concern!”
“But it should be yours. I have seen very many like you and they get lost to the corruption. What kind of mother do you expect to be once you succumb to it?”
Rising from the chair, Alexielle rose. “How dare you? I’m a very capable mother. My daughter is well taken care of and I assure you that any other child we bring into this world will be too. Excuse me.” She stormed out of the office, slamming the door behind her and she walked into the hallway, where she simply stopped and began to cry, falling to her knees. Platinum blonde waves covered her somber face and her breakdown only lasted a few seconds before she rose and wiped her teary eyes.
She would inform her husband. She would have to either find someone who would help her or adopt. But Alexielle would not give up. She would give her husband the boy he so desired. Gaining her composure, she fixed her hair and walked out of the clinic, and back to her home.
After all, she had a daughter waiting for her to arrive and shower her with kisses.

04: A memory that your character cherishes
“Ahh…” the Courier started with a forced chuckle, “there hasn’t been so much in my life that has exactly been cherished. Remembered, yes, but not…cherished.” The practiced smile had turned a touch doubtful as she tried to give up something that was not laced with some semblance of pain or regret. Or would not be utterly confusing to a stranger. Hers had been a life long lived, and twisted, despite the youthful look. Simplicity was always best. A courier’s motto. The verdant gaze warmed slowly as she thought on something particular, a thought roused by an ebon ring worn on the lace-covered finger of her left hand.
“Ah, actually, I had a long-time friend I helped find to find love again with another friend of mine. I believe they carried on a bit in secret. And then the secret was up when they invited me over for dinner. Complete with his daughter.” The smile was slightly fond. “He found the little family he’d always wanted, I think, and she, she finally had a love worthy of her and a little daughter to call her own. And I helped to bring that about. Seeing them together, happy, despite all the trials and tribulations I’d known the two to muddle through in life…that moment of seeing them together was a much cherished one. One I’m proud to have brought together. And…’proud’ is not often a word I’d use in my past, believe me.”

The Lounge had nearly emptied as the few hours dawdled on, the two having retreated to a booth at the back of the dining area. Safrona’s soft laughs were muffled into her own glass of wine now, lured to indulge, and now a little more than tipsy. “…always the rogue with you…” she teased in a slower drawl, too amused with his stories. “And that little girl’ve yours will be the sweet death of you…”
Will laughed, a hearty sound that tilted his head back. “Don’t I know it! All my own damned fault, too! I feel sorry for all the poor souls whose hearts she’ll break.” He shook his head. “We need to meet like this more often, I have missed you.” A smirk danced in his eyes, “I’ll be right back. When I return, I’ll tell you a secret.” He rose from the table and went to the privvy.

The cigarette between the Flea’s lips lit brightly as he sucked in air. He leaned against the sewer entrance in Dalaran, openly gazing at the crowd in the city. He smirked and shook his head. “The King is rather…complicated, Dahlia,” he said softly, looking as if he were smiling instead of speaking. “Anything ticks him off. Just gotta know what to say at the right time.”
“Maybe I just say all the wrong things at the right time then?” She grinned and took the cigarette from his mouth and took a drag, the smoke snaking its way from the hollows of her empty sockets. Her claws carefully placed it back unto his lips “ I’m still here… ” she took up his hand and let him twirl her small frame. “ For now blah, blah, blah, yea?” She gave a half laugh, moving back into place, her favored imp tucked into a large laced pocket in the front of her skirt.
Nodding whole-heartedly, the Flea smirked when the cigarette was placed back between his lips. “Oh, I agree. You’re still here. Could be worse: you could have been a mess of food for the king and us.” He chuckled once more and noticed a woman pass by in a red cloak.
“Like her,” he gestured. “That’s the Courier. They had a bit of a fallout when he first met her. Now…” He chuckled and watched the woman turn the corner. “Well, now, if he can get his hands on her…” he whistles. “I would hate to be her.”
