Cinderella smiled and nodded. “I’m going to be seventeen. Not a crazy exciting time, but still fun to celebrate.”

“Oh my goodness! My birthday is on Saturday!”

“Oh, uhm…” If he was honest, no, he was not exactly excited to be back at school. “Yeah… It’s… It looks good… The castle I mean.”

Cinderella smiled softly at his hesitant answer. “You don’t have to be excited,” she explained.

“Oh, Merlin,” Robin sighed blissfully between mouthfuls of food, “I bloody love the welcoming back feast.”

Cinderella looked up and smiled at his elated face. “It really is wonderful.”

She paused, trying to move past it, trying to make this another easy and uncomfortable conversation she just walked away from but… “no…”

Cinderella wanted to hug this girl. The only thing stopping her was the fact that she didn’t know her and there was a dog in her arms. However, she did gesture to the nearby bench. “Hey, it’s okay. Here, sit down. Do you want me to get you a glass of water?”

Being back was strange. Especially with all the new people. PJ had mostly been keeping to himself, not really wanting to seek out any of his friends to talk to them just yet, even though he knew they must be wanting to talk to him. He’d found a nice quiet spot to sit down and try to get used to being back at Hogwarts.

Cinderella saw a familiar figure sitting on the field and approached with a smile. “Long time no see,” she smiled. “Are you excited to be back at school?”

Except she wasn’t out alone; at least not anymore. Charlotte wiggled a bit, shifting in the girls arms, and started playing with one of her hands.

“Oh my God, you are too cute,” Cinderella giggled as she wiggled her fingers at the dog, trying to keep an eye on the passerby. “You must belong to someone, you’re too friendly.”

“Ah,” Cinderella gaped, feeling her face burn further. “You needn’t thank me, really.”

“Huh. Well, we could look around town to see if there are any lost dog posters. Maybe someone has been looking for them?”

“That is very kind of you. I was thinking of putting up found flyers, I just...don’t think I can bring him home but bringing him to a shelter could be dangerous for him.”

“If you put your hand out and let him sniff you first, you can see how he reacts. It’s a good way to judge them and let them judge you.”
