They’re not in much of a position to be judging, but they are judging, at least a little. Kindred spirits are rare enough for Kennedy to assume their nonexistence. “How do you – not know?”
The sigh that rattles out of him is so long-suffering. His hand scrubs his face. “It’s such a long and complicated story. I just don’t know.”

Funny, almost, he mused — the way he used to think he was both.
Assassin Two to Hellhound One; do you copy? Hellhound One readin’ you loud an’ clear, over.
He granted the other no real answer. How an iron-clad blank expression could even resemble anything mildly close to amusement was unclear; though suppose it did, in the man’s own moderate manner, forehead slightly creasing with one brow just barely quirked in a questioning manner. Does it matter? lingered at the tip of his tongue, the instinct reaction to being asked anything about himself — though, head tilting sideways in curiosity, he opted for the more compelling distraction.
”What would you call yourself?”
There’s a certain level of allowed disclosure with strangers, he’s been taught. You don’t talk about the bad parts of your past (or what you can remember of it), you don’t talk about the bad parts of your present, and you never voice your concerns for the future. That being said. “I don’t have nearly enough self-awareness to answer that question,” he admits after several minutes of calm silence. “I’m lacking the... right kind of data for a logical conclusion.” The corner of his mouth quirks up; he’s amused by the thought of trying to shove his still-undiscovered personality back into a box.

❛ no. i’m out of the sales game. i’m just here to endorse. ❜ his arms cross over his chest, interest turning to the stranger. the same faces tend to show up at these events, but tony finds no familiarity in this one. but he plays along anyway.
❛ there are failsafes in place. you have to be holding the control for it to scan, and any purchase of the machine will be for medical program only. it’s going to be heavily monitored. ❜
“You’d like to think,” he adds, voice soft, strangely sad. Again, he’s surprised himself. Depaul displays immaculate understanding of intention and cause-and-effect. Monitor closely. His tongue touches his upper lip. “Did you make this?”

the corner of their lips twitches up, not quite a smile but definitely portraying how humored they are at the other’s antics: the outbursts and the care he has for inanimate objects, his or not. it’s endearing as hell even though eddie doesn’t really care for that mug ( bad memories of all the times they spilled hot beverages onto themselves ). they take the pen, thumb brushing against the initials. ‘ there’s still some hot chocolate in there, by the way. ’
‘ no, i didn’t. nice to meet you blue. i’m eddie. ’ they say absent-mindedly, considering the papers in their hands. they make a decision. ‘ turn around. ’ a pause, before they realize. ‘ wait. let me explain what i’m going to do. ’ ah, how to phrase this? ‘ you’re going to turn around so i can use your back as a support to write down everything i need to write. that sound good to you? ’
“Eddie,” he repeats with a nod, pad of his thumb rubbing against the smooth face of the mug in absent thought. He actually knows this procedure. Owning land means signing many contracts in many places with zero desks, so he’s been the stand-in furniture for his parents at lunch on more than one occasion. Blue pivots in place and tenses his back, complacently resigning himself. “Do you send off a lot of letters?” he asks over his shoulder. “Seems like a...common past time, based on the traffic in this place.”

@sinistergen continued from here.
He felt the urge to smile, to chuckle — though the feeling was quickly nipped in its bud, as it always were nowadays, as he had taught himself to do without even ever thinking of it anymore. A good question, indeed. Sharp. The younger man did not fuck about. He liked that. The answer to that question, however, he did not like as much.
”I am alive.” The words tasted foreign on his tongue. I am. There was no I. Most often, when he worked at it hard enough, he would manage convincing himself he was no longer human. They tasted sour, like a cheese gone off — but suppose, unlike most times, there was no way around them now. “An’ I am free.”
“Doesn’t really answer the question,” he observes, shoving his knuckle into his teeth in thought. “’Men go to jail, dogs get put down.’ And, of course--- you’re free. Forgive me, if this is a dodgy conclusion, but you don’t really call yourself either, do you?” He’s certainly the last person qualified to draw conclusions based on peoples’ behavior, especially not when he’s barely established a behavioral pattern of his own. Maybe, he considers this a sort of introspection, something to draw from. Could lso be crackpot philosophy, which he’s unfortunately known for.

‘ you’re looking a little iffy there, mate. ’
it’s an offer for help, sort of, if you read into it and maybe do a little digging through that very tommy way he has. he lifts his bag off of the bench he’d stopped by in order to try and get through to eva again. ( fifteen missed calls later, he’s not having any luck & the only option here seems to be get to the airport. )
‘ need to sit down? ’
He starts to shake his head no, as a knee-jerk reaction, but thinks better. “Yeah. Probably.” His body is heavy and shakes the bench when he drops like a sack of cement. His hands clasp behind his neck and stay there, fingers tapping unceasingly against the skin. “So, uh, how--- how’re you? How is your day?” The best distraction is a conversation you’re not interested in.
' better fuck off , then . '
There’s a very quick, obviously irritated “Better reword that, then” that is almost immediately amended with an “I’m sorry, that was rude.” The statements practically fall on top of each other. He’s still getting used to being an adult who controls his outbursts. “Sorry,” he says again, just to be safe.

"you silver tongue devil you.”

"pride only hurts. it never helps."
"now the first time you kill somebody, that’s the hardest."

❛ this thing has had medical schools and tech schools working together for a decade. ❜ with a flick of his wrist, the screen shuts off, and he tosses the pen to the stranger. a smile quirks up the corners of his mouth; nothing quite piques his interest anymore except these displays of scientific advancement.
❛ it does read the data in real time. if a babe in a leather suit walked by, it’d show the raised heart rate a split second later. ❜
Skepticism satiated, he continues with his concerns. “Are you selling this? You’ll have more than doctors interested in this sort of thing,” Blue repeats. Tactically, this is dangerous. He doesn’t know why he knows that. Sucking his teeth, he twists the pen around and around in his hands, resisting the urge to take it apart. Probably considered bad form. “What’s the sensor range? Or is it limited to the individual holding it?”

“Not knowing someone is sort of a prime reason to give them your number.” And there ends their social etiquette lesson for the day. Kennedy’s mouth draws into a small lopsided squiggle. They glance at Franka and back at Blue. “Ten, I think.” He’s not been particularly creepy, he’s just, a man. Kennedy folds their arms over their stomach. “You have any of your own?”
He lifts his head and squints into the sun, lips pursed. The subject’s sore--- sort of. “Dunno. Maybe.” It’s pretty unclear. He doesn’t have much paternal instinct and children are just as foreign to him as the United States economy but he likes the idea.
I highly recommend you follow the person I reblogged this from.

“Oh my god, no,” and they’re about to protest that they don’t even look related to the kid – do they even look old enough to be someone’s parent – but that’s not really a reliable point of comparison. But Kennedy insists, hands out, palms up, then a vague wave at Franka, who is making incredible headway on the monkey bars, “No, she’s my friend’s kid, she’s just gone to get sunscreen from the car. I’m uh, I’m just the stand-in single mom thing for the next ten minutes. You want me to take your name and number and I’ll give it to Nina when she gets back?”
He’s got the wrong read on this, mouth screwed up in that weird way it does when he’s both irritated and confused by a situation. Blue thinks the both of them have the wrong read. “Eh? No. I don’t know her; why would I give her my phone number?” He’s curious about the child--- and he doesn’t know what a single mom is but he can grasp the concept. So much is happening all at once. “How old is she?” A nod at the child, twitchy palms shoved into the pockets of his jeans.
YOU HATE THE SMELL OF CORN STARCH AND MELON RINDS. YOU HAVE SENSITIVE TEETH AND A STRONG DISTASTE FOR CINNAMON-FLAVORED TOOTHPASTE. ALCOHOL DOESN’T INTEREST YOU BUT SMOKING SEEMS OKAY. YOU ARE AN AVID LOVER OF SEINFELD THOUGH YOU RARELY UNDERSTAND THEIR POP-CULTURE REFERENCES.
YOU LIKE THE COLOR BLUE AND YOU DON’T KNOW THIS ISN’T A COINCIDENCE.
