THE MOTHER

Hello members! Welcome to the eleventh optional task. It is Mother’s Day, and we want to look at how the relationship your character has with their own mother. Is it a good one? Maybe it’s a not-so-good relationship? Is their mother still alive or not? How does your character feel? Let’s find out!

Requirements: You have free reign over how you want to present this. You can write a drabble, create a bulleted list, create a moodboard/playlist, or whatever you’d like to show off your character’s relationship to their mother. This is an opportunity for you to be creative and come up with your own representation of the task.

Tears formed in her eyes as she heard those fateful words. “He’s dead, Aysun. Your father is dead.” The younger female wasn’t even listening. She was just in shock. Yes she had a falling out with her father a while ago but it didn’t mean that she hated him. “I’ll call you back, mom. I can’t talk right now”. Aysun hung up the phone and looked at her friend Keri Winter. “He’s dead. I can’t believe it. I…” her voice trailed off. Keri was in shock. She knew that Aysun and her adoptive father were real close. She just hoped that she’d be able to help Aysun get through this difficult time.

He just can’t be dead, thought Aysun. She was always a daddy’s girl. It wasn’t until a few weeks ago when they had a disagreement did they stop talking to each other. But she loved him so much. He was one of her favorite people. Besides that, Dominick taught Aysun everything she knew about standing up for herself and never selling herself short. She sniffled and couldn’t imagine life without her father in her life. Taking a deep breath and let it out slowly. “I’m going to go lay down. I don’t feel like talking right now” she said, wiping a tear from her face. “Okay hon. I’ll go home but if you need me, please call me. I love you hon” replied Keri giving Aysun a big hug. She waved goodbye and hoped that her friend would be okay.

A WEEK LATER

I can do this. You’ve got this Sunny. You can face them and say goodbye. He’d want you to be happy and only remember the good times. Aysun took one look in the mirror and checked her makeup. “Hi hon. How are you holding up?” asked Jason Teagan a family friend. Aysun turned to face her friend and could feel her heart ache. She didn’t want to lose it all over again. She couldn’t do that again. Especially with so many people waiting for her to give the eulogy. “I’m fine. Thank you for asking Jason.” Her mother came in and Aysun smiled weakly. “Hi baby. It’s time” she said softly. The young female swallowed hard and nodded. She hoped she’d be able to get through this. Aysun gathered her emotions and walked into the church. A heaviness entered her body but she ignored it. She walked up to the podium and sighed. “Thank you for coming. My father would’ve been happy to know that lots of people loved and admired him. He was the best man I ever knew. He taught me how to throw a baseball and throw a lunch, even though my mother didn’t always approve. But to me, it just meant that he loved me”. Aysun kept the speech to the point and after she was done, she blew a kiss to her father’s casket. I love you daddy, she said silently.
