This media for Project Hail Mary-both the movie and the book-have become something really special to me. Something that has brought me joy over and over again. So I decided to finally make a fic for it. I am not a scientist, in any way whatsoever, but I will do my best to try and make the scientific scenes as plausible as possible. Otherwise, this is my version of Grace and Rocky's Journey to Erid.

Summary beneath the cutoff -

After saving Rocky from the stranded Blip A, Ryland Grace sets a course for Erid—and realizes, far too late, that there’s a problem. A major problem.

With only a handful of weeks of edible food left, Grace begins to deteriorate in ways he understands far too well. Starvation is a problem he can quantify, track, and predict—and one he cannot stop. His body wastes, his mind slips, and the line between clinical observation and quiet terror begins to blur. 

Because sometimes, knowing the science doesn’t save you. 

From Rocky’s perspective, the problem is simple: Grace must eat. But human biology is anything but simple, and the solution sitting right in front of them—Taumoeba—remains unusable. As Grace worsens, Rocky is forced to do something he’s never needed to before: become a scientist. 

And he’s running out of time to learn.

Overall, I've wanted to achieve two things: a shattered look due to sheer power output and a more insectoid design since institutional tech tend to give off that uncanny feeling.

However, I didn't want to go full-AC with his design, so I've also brought up some Macross inspo into it - and, whatever looks cool as a golden rule.

Mainly I've kept the TFOne Starscream palette and also added a fair amount of his Kuro Kara Kuri figure design which is arguably my fave one aside from PF-01 Red Falcon. I have no concrete thoughts about his alt-mode but you can see some of main details in the design, like forward-swept wings, canards and IBIS-inspired drones plus overall hostile sharp silhouette. Either way, a combination of what is essentially sentient fuel screaming in horror and cybertronian tech seemed really fitting her name.

What was it like for Jazz to have the girl sparkling be born with the same eye condition he once had? What kind of emotions did he go through when, after doing everything HIS parents never did for him, she opens up her eyes for him healthy as can be?

He did literally everything he could’ve all on his own. His son opened his eyes just fine, he got bigger and lost his grey. She was just taking her time. That was until Jazz figured out that she wasn’t.

He actually had to step outside for a shot time to calm himself down. Jazz is overwhelmed, he has been for a while, he’s just really good at hiding it.

It made him realize how alone he was in all this. He’s got a lot of complicated feelings that he’s trying ignore. Jazz has no one to talk to about how much he’s struggling, he’s got many friends sure and a lot of people who care about him and want to help him, but he’s doesn’t feel safe enough to divulge to anyone, Prowl was the only one. Though Jazz often played the supporter in his relationship with Prowl, always reassuring. Jazz is incredibly codependent on Prowl, way more than he had ever thought.

He of course blamed himself for what happened to Prowl and what’s happening to her. And while sitting outside his hab trying to not feel the things he was feeling, Jazz actually cried a little. He hasn’t cried since he was a new spark. He went back in his hab to address the situation and calm his now panicking sparklings. Once everyone is calm, he took her to Ratchet to begin her treatments.

This is the best description I’ve heard for this method, I always thought it was bullshit because I never heard a description that actually explained how to do this other than “tap your head 20 times”.

I have anxiety-induced hissing, which sounds/feels different from sound-induced tinnitus (which I have also experience). Sound-based tinnitus actually sounds like you’re “hearing” something in your ears, whilst the hissing I have feels like it’s “inside my head”, if that makes sense. But this technique still helps!!
