well spotted! :D It is indeed a reference to statistical tests - in this scenario, whatever tests they were running, the results ended up being NOT statistically significant (p > 0.05) so they're outside smoking depressed over the inability to reject the null hypothesis

ofc it's not all about the p-value in science, but as a 2nd year phd student in biology I had to project a bit and be overly dramatic, and these two were the perfect targets🎀
