Work of Robert Rauschenberg
4. Post Modernism
Robert Rauschenberg was known for his work ‘combines’ in the 1950s as he used non-traditional materials and objects were combined and mixed together to be innovative combinations. Combine is the artwork of various objects that are put on a single canvas – these things can be photographic images, newspaper clippings or any number of 3D objects.

4. Post Modernism
A radical movement in modern art is minimalism is a movement in the 1950s that arose with sculptures and paintings. It was set to expose the essence or the identity of a subject through getting rid of all non essential forms or concepts. It is often said to be a reaction again the abstract expression movement and a bridge to the post-minimal movement.
Another radical movement is pop art this movement emerged in the 1950’s. This is when material is visually removed from one context and put in another context with unrelated material. It is considered a reaction to abstract expressionism as well as expansion of the ideas in it, but quite similar to the dada movement.

4. Post Modernism
In post modernism there is no definition though it does have the main features to feature in the movement as it can be seen to be irrational and confusing. It is the art movement where it contradicts with some of the aspects of modernism as well as emerging then or being developed from them. Movements like intermedia, installation art, conceptual art and multimedia.
Post modernism can be described as a disillusion as you can have no idea where you are going. With the example of ideas and history mixed as one, this is called eclecticism. Eclecticism is a conceptual approach that can’t hold a single set of assumptions however in this case can draw multiple theories, styles. The term eclecticism is the combination in a single work or different historical styles – this was mainly in architecture, fine decorative arts. An example of this can be the New York Hotel in Las Vegas.

3. Portraits
The constructed portrait is when a person is deliberately placed in a scene (studio) and given direction. As the photographer want the person to be in a certain place. This can be for many reasons as to the brief of the shoots as well as to the photographer’s choice her or himself. The relationship itself between the photographer and the subject (model) is important as it is about communication to get the shoot right.
Patrick Tosani’s braille portraits are an excellent example of a constructed image as the images are not recognisable, he did this for a reason because he was projecting portraits on braille paper, to display two senses – sight and touch.

3. Portraits
Portraits can be evidential to show the purpose or exposure of an image, tells a story behind the picture. With technology changing, cameras on phones are now available causing self portraits to be ever more popular. Self portraits have been around for a while with them being known in the early years as a privilege to those who has one – for the wealthy.
Vivian Maier is a good example of a photographer who took self portraits but some of her portraits had a story behind them as they displayed other meanings in them as they were seen to be reflections in the windows and you could see not just her but other people in the shot – which gave the image a double meaning.

3. Portraits
Portraits can be an image of a single person or group of people which displays expression, personality and mood of subject. While portraiture can be the focus on the face of the person or persons, it can also be about the entire body and the background. Other forms of portraits can be environmental, this is when a person has a portrait in a comfortable environment – their home or workplace etc. Functions of a portrait can be for religious reasons or for status.

2. (All) Ready Made
Post-production photography is when photographers put their work in image editing software. The process of which you can manipulate an image many times therefore changing the context of the image each time.
An example of post-production is art design company ‘Hipgnosis’ who creates art covers for bands. Their album covers are photograph orientated. They manipulate their images into a surreal look for their covers, by darkroom tricks, multiple exposures, airbrushing and mechanical cut and paste techniques. They use Hasselblad medium format cameras as they use square film form in their cover imagery.

2. (All) Ready Made
Photography parody or spoofs is work created to imitate, make fun of the original piece of work – its subject, style, author or other target, this is done by ironic imitation. Mostly used in art or culture – music, film, animation etc. Blank parody is when an artist takes the skeletal form of a piece of art work and changed it into a new context without ridiculing it. The can be linked to pastiche in the fact the genres are closely linked to one another. Self- parody is also another form of parody when artists parody their own works or where an artist or genre is repeated from earlier works therefore losing its originality.
