I wanted to fiddle around with a black canvas because I saw a friend do that for her art. I think it's fun and really helps the colors pop!

I'm attempting to actually get good at art as I'm getting frustrated at being unable to draw. I'm starting out with exercises such as grid drawing then later I'll try gesture drawing, drawing something without looking at the canvas, breaking things down into shapes, etc.
I used a 4x4 grid for this one.

Pose reference by Sellenin
Rough sketch of a character for a character in a story I’m working on, her name is Joli. Just a really rough design of her, future incarnations of her will most likely change.
For whatever reason, tumblr keeps compressing this on the dashboard but not on the blog page itself? so for full res, go to the blog.

I’m looking to try my hand at commissions, particularly with maps. You can see an example of the look I can provide in the images above. The art style was heavily inspired by the maps from The Lord of the Rings.
So if you would like to spice up your D&D sessions with some maps like these, message me and we can arrange something! Since I’m testing the water of commissions, I will only take on a few commissions at a time.
All maps are in digital PNG format only. I will currently not accept commissions for city maps, dungeon maps, or otherwise super intricate maps. I’m willing to do small scale overworld maps up to large scale overworld maps. By default map sizes are around 3000 x 3000 px at 350 dpi, but you can request a specific resolution.
A map of a whole world might incur a larger fee than listed, depending on the overall complexity and/or size of the map required.
Rates
A Mundane Map will cost $25 USD. This is a basic, bare bones map that will feature an aged paper background, water, icons for towns and cities, roads, compass, it gets the job done.
A High Level Detail Map will cost $50 USD. This, in addition to the previously mentioned features, can include shading on mountain ranges, decorative monsters, lines surrounding the coasts, and other finer details. It takes me a good chunk of time more to add these extra details but it looks sweet. If you would like the colors to be more solid than the watercolor I’m using, let me know!
Prices are non-negotiable!
I will only accept payments via PayPal invoice. PayPal information must be provided once an agreement has been made and the map completed.
Process
PM me and let me know that you’d like a commission with what kind of map details you want, what resolution you’re seeking, and provide me with a rough draft or a sketch of the map if available since that will help me out. Or at the very least, a vivid text description of what you’re looking for.
I could provide status updates by sending lower resolution & watermarked versions of the map. If you have a certain color you want for your water, trees, lava, etc let me know! Also, color codes really help pin down exact colors.
Once the commission is completed, I will send you a PayPal invoice with the map fee. Upon confirmation of payment, you will receive the full resolution image free of watermarks via e-mail.
Refund policy
Once payment has been received, payment is non-refundable.
Usage Rights
Images you commission are free for you to use in any noncommercial setting/reproduce for personal use. I do require that you credit me.
All maps are in digital PNG format only. I will currently not accept commissions for city maps, dungeon maps, or otherwise super intricate maps.
Styles of Environment Examples
If you are interested in a commission, simply state which style of trees, water, mountains, etc. you would like on your map.
If you have questions about this, don’t hesitate to ask!
Trees
Tree style A is good for large forests, Style B can also be used for large forests or groves or meadows, and Style C would be best if this is a smaller scale map since it helps provide detail.
Mountains
Available with no shading (top row), smooth shading (middle row), and rough shading (bottom row).
Rivers
Coast and Islands
Style A would be Mundane while Style B can be considered high level detail due to the amount of time it takes to evenly space out the lines and maintain their shape.
Lakes
Style A would be considered mundane, Styles B and C could be considered mundane as well if there aren’t a lot of lakes in the map. Otherwise you can only get that with a high level detail map.
For example, the Map of Anasazi at the start of the post uses B style trees, C style mountains with rough shading, B style rivers, B style coasts and islands, and B style lakes. The more complex the design, the longer it will take me to complete the map. This would be considered a High-Level Detail map.
So if you want a map, send me a PM and let’s get started!
Map Commission
Image resolutions are halved for previews as only the commissioner gets access to the full resolution. That aside, this was my first ever commission! Woo~
Map of Anasazi
Turns out I forgot the Map Scale and some details around the water.
This will be a dinosaur/monster hunting open world campaign, The Hunters of Anasazi. This is also my very first D&D map and will be my first D&D campaign. I'm taking on a rather big task for my first campaign... nasty habit of mine to take on a big challenge when I learn something new.
The area is composed of thick jungles, trees that reach the sky, vast grasslands, and every single part of the land has creatures that will try to kill you. Being Native American myself, I wanted to add some Native flavor in there, so the culture there is a mix of my own tribe, Pueblo Laguna, with some Aztec. I was more or less inspired by video games like Turok and Monster Hunter to create this campaign.
The artstyle for the map was inspired by the Lord of the Rings maps.

More coloring practice, though this time the line art is with the “Lighter Pencil” on Clip Studio Paint. I still can’t seem to replicate the hair coloring effect.

Drawing practice, no references or anything. Just wanted to draw something before I went to bed. It’s like... 4 am... This one is of my D&D character, Mila.
This was my attempt at free form drawing, no tracing this time. I’ve been using the “Shrimp Method” of drawing where you try drawing something without references, then tracing an image of that thing, drawing with a reference then drawing without a reference.
The art is mediocre but I feel good about myself, this is better than other things I’ve made. Woo~ progress.

G Pen for the outline, water color for everything else. I tried adding more depth to her hair by adding more lines but it didn’t come out too great.

Tried 2 different things here, using thicker lines and using watercolor paint instead of the oil paint in CSP. Blending colors is much easier, oil paint seems to smear more than the water color. You can see me mixing watercolors for tests in the upper right. Other than that, it’s still rather simple shading.
I look forward to the day when I can stop tracing things and draw things freely. But tracing has been a good learning experience on how to create certain lines, messing with thicknesses, etc. It’s also been really good for coloring since the last 2 images of Miyako were traced from B/W sketches.

Like the last one, I traced over the image to get a feel for it. Unlike the last one, this one was purely a sketch so I had to color it in myself without a reference. I tried using an Oil Brush in Clip Studio Paint to get a smoother color transition and it worked well on her skin but not as well on her hair.
Overall this was good for testing out different ways of shading and blending colors together. I still have trouble mimicking Wagi’s way of coloring hair and getting that smooth gradient look. Maybe reddit will yield more answers...
