TENDER IS THE FLESH
a steak dinner with a side of human flesh. bazterrica isn't just throwing a wild concept at us for the shock value, she's here to mess with our heads, challenge our ethics, and frankly, make us squirm about the whole food chain. through marcos, our guide in this unsettling world, we're forced to confront the unnerving reality of human meat production. it's raw, it's brutal, and it's eerily reflective of our own societal desensitization to a lot of things we'd rather not think about.
where bazterrica really shines is not just about the gore and the horror but her tender exploration of humanity at the heart of this story. marcos's journey, his inner battle with the moral quagmires of his world, hits close to home. it's like watching a car crash; you want to look away, but you can't because you're kinda, sorta complicit.
the novel is a masterpiece of discomfort, pushing us to ponder where we draw the line, if at all. It's a nudge to reflect on our choices and their implications. and while bazterrica serves up this thought feast, she manages to do so with a prose that's as exquisite as it is horrifying.
