TSA officers try to screen passenger after his flight, threaten him after refusal
This morning in Hebron, a six-year-old Palestinian boy was attacked by colonial settlers. Whadye Maswdye was walking on Shuhada street with his small dog and some of the family sheep, when a male settler took young Whadye by the neck and slapped him in the face several times. Witnesses reported that the soldiers present at the scene were more interested in preventing the father of Whadye, that had in the meantime arrived to the place, to reach the settlers, than to stop the actual abuse. ISM volunteers asked a local shop owner who witnessed the episode if anything happened to the settler who attacked young Whadye. He stated: “No, nothing happened to him, they (the settlers) can do whatever they want. If I just threw a stone at a settler I would go to prison for at least six months, imagine what would happen if I beat one of them like this? There is no justice here.” via ISM

Can you explain to me what's going on with Scotland an in Glasgow? I'm in Texas and haven't been able to follow it on my own.
scotland voted for its independence on thurdsay and overall it was a no vote with only 45% of people voting yes (there are suspicions of vote rigging but that’s a whole other post). in glasgow, however, the results were over 50% yes, which seems to have given the violent unionists an easy target.
glasgow already has a huge problem with violence, particularly sectarianism, which is the root of a lot of the violence happening right now. the orange order, a unionist protestant organisation notorious for violence against catholics, have been ‘celebrating’ their win with violence against supporters of scottish independence as well as catholics or anyone they believe to be catholic.
far-right unionist groups such as britain first and the EDL (the latter of whom are literally neo-nazis) have also taken to the streets and are targeting independence supporters and POC, particularly glasgow’s large muslim community.
there have been reports of stabbings, beatings, buildings being set on fire and even people being set on fire but of course none of these reports have been confirmed because the pro-union media refuse to report that people on their side can do any wrong. the few reports i have seen have shifted the blame onto yes voters.

In other news, another black man was shot dead 4 miles from Ferguson. The suspect is a police officer. Thoughts go out to the people of Ferguson today
Breaking News: Man Shot Dead In Officer Involved Shooting 4 Miles From Ferguson
August 19th, 2014
One man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in north St. Louis.
The shooting happened near Riverview Boulevard and McLaran Avenue. St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson says the suspect pulled a knife on a 6th District officer. No police officers were injured.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, which is located approximately four miles from the unrest in Ferguson.
The man was heard saying “Shoot me now. Kill me now.”
“One of the witnesses described it as a suicide by cop,” Police Chief Sam Dotson told reporters.
Over a hundred people are currently gathering at the scene of the crime according to NBC News.
As anger erupted again on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, a human rights team from Amnesty International worked on the ground in the US for the first time ever.
As I said in one of my previous posts, the things that protesters are doing in Ferguson should have been done sooner, but we can only be grateful that people are saying them now. This is the first time ever in America that people have needed help from an organization like Amnesty on our ground, and it's the first time police have really responded violently to demonstrations since the civil rights movement. I very likely might be wrong, but I can't help but feel that Ferguson is the start of something bigger in the United States, finally. The government/police have never had such strong reactions to something, anything that the people anywhere have said to them.
I don’t know what made me buy a plane ticket to St. Louis at 1:15 a.m. on Tuesday. Maybe it was remembering that feeling of helplessness and guilt after learning of the Trayvon Martin verdict while embarking on a carefree cross-country road trip.
Maybe it was Eric Garner, who died only weeks ago in New York, after a police officer wrestled him to the ground and choked him.
Maybe it was going to the south side of Chicago last month, stepping into Trinity United Church of Christ, made famous by the union of Barack Obama and now–pastor emeritus Jeremiah Wright in 2008.
Maybe it was hearing the church’s announcements about the shooting and murder of kids from its congregation that I’d later read about in the news that evening. But perhaps it was just me.
A black boy turned black man who finds it increasingly miraculous that I made it to 27. A black man with a black mother who was alive in the South for the final push of Jim Crow.
And a black man with a black mother with black parents who would have done anything so that their children and grandchildren wouldn’t have to live a life in fear of the dogs. And the hoses. And the bombs.
Either way, learning that an 18-year-old named Michael Brown had been shot by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, and left in the street to die, pushed me to a breaking point.
It felt like I had to come to Ferguson. Not as a journalist, but as a black man fed up with the idea of black boys who are unable to become black men.
I knew I couldn’t tell my mom. She’d be proud I was here, but it would also worry her to no end. And it would be unnecessary worry. Because I’d be fine.
The Front Lines of Ferguson «
Civil unrest begins again in Ferguson after the Ferguson police department released the name of the officer that killed Michael Brown as well as a video that allegedly showed Michael Brown stealing cigarillos in a convenience store. Brown's family, along with many protesters in Ferguson claimed that the police department were attempting to divert attention from the fact that an innocent and unarmed Michael Brown was murdered by a police officer.

Here in Burque (Albuquerque, NM) we know what it’s like to have police brutality in our community. Unfortunately, “the APD routinely kills more suspects per capita than the NYPD” and it’s becoming increasingly hard for even the average person to ignore.
We stand in solidarity with Ferguson and with all other communities affected by corruption and police brutality and lit candles tonight in memory of those whose lives were stolen.
