They’re in such a haze and so blissed out and you just look so good and you feel so good so there is nothing and no one else they can even imagine binding themselves to at that moment. So over all your gasps and moans and pleads they’re stammering and babbling their tenets and promises and prayers, all dedicated to you.

A good and loyal knight dedicating themselves to their new code, the old one they followed for so long left completely behind

Errants or oathbreakers binding themselves to this new law, a new focus for all that lost or unused loyalty.

It’s a ceremony, you see, and it needs to be seen all the way through, and so it will, no matter how many times the both of you come undone.

There are SO many scenes that I read in this book and immediately wanted to draw, but this one I actually got on the page during our last book club meeting :) The beach scene from chapter 42 got me feeling all the things, I love this book in all its silliness.

Finally read through Apparently, Sir Cameron Needs To Die by @pangur-and-grim on my planes and bus yesterday!

Incredibly funny. Put an incomplete (my phone died) compilation of lines that made me lose my shit in public.

I was really surprised (positively) at how sweet it got in the middle?

Line that almost made me cry but my phone was dead: “Chickens will be the same.”

LOVED the setting and the way it was conveyed. Aspirational worldbuilding. 10/10

Favorite characters (surprising absolutely no one) were Hydna (god the woman that she is) and Lunatic Freak (I <3 Lunatic Freak)

BUT I did also hugely enjoy the way everyone was autistic in there. Best representation since the Stormlight Archive except that I’m reasonably sure that it was on purpose this time, so. Win!!!

10/10, can’t wait to read it again. Hands down one of my favorite of the books I’ve read lately (up there with Gideon the Ninth and Men at Arms)!! Unfortunately I have to say that I do regret reading it because now all three (3!) of my partners won’t stop comparing me to Sir Cameron and frankly I’m not sure how to take it. Like that can’t be good. But I digress.

Okay this has been rattling around in my head, but considering we only get things from Cameron’s perspective, could you give us any insight on Merulos perspective? When does that old man go from “I actually hate this guy” to “I fear I may love this idiot.”

I just took an overnight flight to a funeral and am waiting in the airport for pick up, so I’ll give this a possibly incoherent answer.

this is like the loneliest guy on earth, right? to the point of giving special faces and names to his construct servants that are essentially extensions of his will, and pretending they have specific personalities (“Benedict loves teeth”.) he’s a huge lonely loser boy. so even having a captive that he hates around is enough to make him be like oh wait I might actually need this. I might be a social animal after all. and Cameron getting mortally wounded as a vulture is basically the tipping point for that. letting him die at that point would have negated the prophecy and freed him, but instead he has his constructs scoop him up and rush him up to the castle for vulture cpr, because he’s a sad lonely freak who really really needs someone to talk to. and then the whole make out in the grass after the tavern is enough to send him into 🥺❤️❤️❤️😊🫣🫠🥴🫨 doki doki! and it’s over from that point onward. he’s fucked. there’s no return. he’d have blown his load and wasted all his magic in a heartbeat from then on, because you have to understand that this guy just sucks

Genuinely, the fact that Merulo believed Glenda as far as Sir Cameron’s last words go is so funny to me. He brings him back to life and spends WEEKS thinking “he loathes me. He hates me. I’m nothing to him.” Meanwhile Cameron is following his ass around like this:
