Albert Square, Manchester (1910) by Adolphe Valette | Contemporary Art (2015) by Emily Allchurch
the top is an original, from 1910, the bottom is a new version painted in 2015
THE BOTTOM IS A PAINTING????
also does a really good job reminding the view just how much air quality has improved since we stopped burning coal in every building lol
bojack horseman really treated hollyhock loosing a large amount weight from being secretly drugged as something bad and unhealthy and not as something with a silver lining bc she was now thin and then had her gain the weight back with no one making comments about how that was “unhealthy” and appropriately showed the fact that she was traumatized by the event and not secretly grateful other shows CAN NOT RELATE
And this is the same show that showed another character hesitate to take medication to treat her severe depression because of the risk of weight gain and then showed her, after agreeing to take it, fat and happy and mentally healthy and loved by her partner for the rest of the show. It wasn’t a temporary change to make a point then back to status quo, she got fat and stayed fat and the narrative told us it was better for her to be fat and healthy than thin and depressed or dead. And her weight wasn’t a punchline! It just was how she was now.
Truly this show was doing some things.
These two are a married couple. They never wanted kids. Diane gets pregnant. They still don’t want to have kids. Diane gets an abortion. At no point is the abortion blamed for any issues in their relationship. They agreed to it together, and that balloon made me laugh so hard I nearly had an asthma attack.
okay guys its the big 26 so ill say it. lets not pretend that ATLA was ever aiming for total accuracy with their portrayal of asian cultures. like yes it was well done and thoughtfully incorporated, but they also just took elements from various cultures and threw them into a melting pot to further their story and worldbuilding. no one nation is based off of Only One culture. please god im so tired
i apologize for the person i will be at the beginning of september when BTS will be performing in LA and i will not be seeing them
THE FIRE NATION IS NOTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!! BASED OF JAPAN!! ITS THAI!! ITS CLEARLY THAI!1 DID YOU GUYS EVEN WATCH THE SHOW!!!!! STOP SAYING ITS JAPANESE!!!!!!!!
this is true but it also has influences from all sorts of asian cultures!
the government of the fire nation takes some inspiration from japanese governance (like namely the propaganda is inspired by imperial japan). and the idea of honor also is huge in japanese culture. also their headpieces i believe are inspired by japanese topknots.
many of the outfits that the fire nation characters wear are not ONLY thai but also inspired by chinese and other asian cultures as well. such as:
which resembles a chinese hanfu (from the torso down). I admit that the shoulder/upper torso pieces are quite obviously inspired by thai armor.
also the headpiece that ty lee wears is most definitely thai inspired!
the dragons that appear in the show do not really resemble thai dragons, and seem to be inspired by eastern dragons in general, i mean compare thai dragons to whats in the show.
okay thats all from me
Coworker just started playing silksong so now I must return to my bad gaming humiliation ritual (I can’t let him beat the game before I do)
OH MY GOD THEY DID RELEASE NORMAL KOREAN VERSION ON STREAMING
crazy how there are only 2 hours of doing things every day before you keel over and die. if this werent normal id be worried
and i'm supposed to be normal about this how???
I hate you Ozempic craze I hate you 'heroin chic' I hate you weight loss ads on public radio I hate Burn Fat Fast ads every thirty seconds I hate you I hate you I hate you
I grew up before the term 'thigh gap' was invented I grew up before 'hip dip' was invented I was born before 'muffin top' was a thing before 'clean girl look' was a thing before 'glass skin' was a thing before razoring off peach fuzz was a thing and I'm so so so fucking tired of us inventing new concepts purely for the purpose of convincing people to hate their own bodies enough to buy products
Last time Tuberculosis ran through the USA a small number of people got it on purpose to look skinny and waifish and delicate and used makeup to look flushed and bony and when the Victorians figured out tapeworms people would infect themselves on purpose to starve themselves smaller and women and now in the year of our lord 2026 there is a noticeable fraction of the USAmerican population genuinely thrilled about a treatment-resistant microbial parasite that makes you shit and vomit your brains out for a month because side effects include weight loss and STILL we talk about being skinny like it's the natural default setting for all healthy people as if it's a self-sustaining standard and not an imaginary goal that we are constantly constantly constantly beating ourselves with a whip to acheive
do you remember why you followed prev
yes :)
no :)
was talking with sam about this, but fleabag is a very White show. the two black male characters (boo's ex, lawyer guy) are portrayed as incredibly sexually attractive, but that sexuality is also promiscuous and immoral. boo's ex cheats on her, lawyer guy is a terrible womanizer. harry's new partner is an asian woman, and she's portrayed as a step above fleabag, something that can't be separated from the idea that asian women are more docile, more sexually pleasing. especially when the Other time asian women are mentioned in the show is when fleabag teases martin about watching asian gangbang porn. pam's three personality traits are that she's loud, demanding, and entirely reliant on the hot priest. the principal cast are all white. every woman at claire's women in business award ceremony is white. i want to give the show the benefit of the doubt and say that it's part of how fleabag views the world- she's a bad feminist and a terrible intersectional feminist, but i'm halfway through he second season and the show hasn't done anything with any of this yet? am i media illiterate. do i need to be beaten over the head with the message. or am i being too kind
fat girl: a zine for fat dykes and the women who want them
