Hi Whispers! I read one of your posts talking about you only enjoying/wanting to read purely platonic fanfics and I’m the same :) I’m also aroace and my favorite reads tend to be found family. (I’ll just ignore or skip any romantic subplots)

All of that being said, I try my hardest to write platonic fics myself and thought I’d share my writing in case you were still looking or are interested.

I go by DragonSkittles99 on AO3 and the fic I have up currently is for Lego Ninjago. It’s called “Dragon Battery and Vision Attacks” if you haven’t seen Ninjago dragons rising it does contain spoilers fyi.

-I realize as I type this that it sounds like I’m self promoting but I promise I’m not 😭 I just wanted to tag a fellow aroace out there who appreciates fics like I do!- I’d even love to collaborate or do a suggestion fic by you depending on the fandom. Also mood about ignoring or skipping romantic subplots 😂 i just rewatched Fullmetal Alchemist and have to force myself to disassociate during the like 5 awkward romantic moments lmao. I’ve been GORGING myself all the family fan fictions but god damn Canon couples are the BANE of my existence bc people don’t feel the need to tag them in fics when they’re not the focus 😭 like please just warn me that you’re gonna contain references to romance so I can mentally prepare myself.

The thing that really made my skin crawl was them referring to Trump as “President Trump” the day before his inauguration. He did not have title of presedant again until he was sworn in again.

They should have referred to him as “Former President” or “President Elect” I know it seems like a small thing, maybe I’m being overly suspicious, but considering the right’s refusal to accept that Trump lost the last election & the attempted coup & the fact that trump just pardoned like everyone who took part in the violent attempt to overthrow our democracy, I don’t think I am…

Honestly, I think it perfectly describes my life as a non-romantic fic reader how often I come across a 1k ficlet that’s fully platonic & the writing is great & the concept is interesting & it turns out it’s part of a huge series and I’m like “oh hell yeah, finally!” Only to click on the series & find 10 more fics that are all like 100k chapter fics and ALL of them are slash fics. The platonic fic was an outlier in the series, apparently

I have absolutely nothing against shipping, it just isn’t my cup of tea, the way some people don’t like angst or gore. Even when I do ship, it’s in a very queer-platonic way that doesn’t fit up with the vibes of an average slash fic.

I just wish there was as much content for me to enjoy as there is for other people. I get bitter about how easy it is for shippers

It hardly even matters when I switch hyperfixations because it’s the same in every fandom. I can be watching “The Friendship Show” all about Mr. Friendship and his relationship to his 10 platonic best friends, where the overarching theme is how important friendship is, through out all their fun platonic adventures. but the fandom is still 90% romantic.

I’m being 100% serious when I say the last well written, fully platonic, multi-chapter fic I read (which I followed from the first chapter bc I would only ever get to read one shots if I avoided unfinished fics like most people do) posted it’s last chapter in November 2023

This man is the only person I trust, the light of my life, Oda would never betray me.

This man has endured 20+ years of people bugging him to put romance in one piece or give Luffy a love interest despite his consistent stance that romance was never going to be a part of one piece because he prefers friendship/family dynamics.

I hope Oda knows that all the friendship/found family girlies and the romance averse people and the AroAce’s all owe him our lives

I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure one time he leapt out of the boiling sea, so he's (maybe) (partially) canonically immune to the boiling/acidic water, at least for shorter periods of time :]

He’s got his artificial staff and as far as I’m aware we’ve never been given any limitations on the magic he can do with it. It doesn’t seem that far fetched to me that he could make a barrier to protect himself from the heat.

I guess I took it more as a “look how powerful and scary I am. I’m a skilled enough witch that I can do this. Fear me.”

Rather than a “this is something I should NOT be capable of doing, but I can and we’re never gonna question why or how I’m able to do this. I just can” lol

Me: I MAD respect Oda for standing firm in his plan to kill Ace despite pressure from his editor bc of how wildly popular Ace was/is & the potential backlash they could receive. I acknowledge and appreciate the role Ace’s death plays in the story & in Luffy’s character development and I love all the angst that came from it. I wouldn’t want Oda to change it.

Also me: …..Do you think Oda’s editor will convince him not to kill Ace in the live action?

It’s fairly common for AroAce people to misidentify as bi/pan

because how you meant to figure out attraction when you don’t actually experience it lol. You’re told you feel attraction, you pick the feeling that sounds like what they’re describing, you assume it’s the same thing, then 20 years later you find out it’s actually infatuation which turns out is not synonymous with attraction and can be felt towards all different people other than crushes/romantic partners, including but not limited to: new friends, best friends, people you want to be friends with, favorite characters, celebrities, etc.

Just to be clear, this isn’t meant as bi erasure.

Listen okay listen, I keep seeing people spreading that “vampires don’t have reflections because mirrors used to be backed in silver which repels vampires” as though it is a FACT to the point of using it to correct people, and it just bothers me because while that is a very fun and interesting interpretation of this common piece of vampire lore, it is ABSOLUTELY NOT a hard fact.

If that were true it would mean weakness to silver and lacking a reflection would always have to feature together. However, vampire lore varies widely from story to story and those two facets of it do not necessarily coincide. In fact, silver being a weakness of vampires is not featured in many of the vampire stories considered foundational to western vampire lore like The Vampyre, Camilla, Varney the Vampire, and Dracula (widely the most drawn upon source for vampire lore), whereas vampires not having reflections is much more widespread and dates further back. Silver has long been considered a “purifying” metal, which is why it sometimes features in folklore as a ward against impure creatures—like vampires and werewolves—alongside other symbols of purity such as flowing water, garlic flowers, holy artifacts like crosses, etc.

If mirrors didn’t reflect vampires because they were backed by silver which repels them, it would stand to reason that mirrors would then repel vampires as well. However, the lack of reflection isn’t a weakness so much as a way to identify the monster. The reason vampires don’t have reflections in many stories is more likely due to the fact that within many cultures a person’s image or reflection is seen as a “reflection” of their true selves or their soul. Vampires not having reflections symbolizes their being “empty” inside.

I have a special place in my heart for Luz and Hunter both finding closure in their experiences with Belos because it all had to happen exactly the way it did, for them to meet and become family.

They’ve both experienced personal manipulation and trauma at the hands of Belos in the way that none of the others can fully relate to. But they find comfort in each other.

I hope we get to see Hunter and Luz stand together against Belos. The two people that he’s hurt personally, who struggle with the guilt of having helped him, giving each other the strength to face him. and then just behind them, all the friends and loved ones they’ve accrued, ready to protect and support them while Belos stands alone.
